I have watched this video at least one thousand times! Omar you are the greatest! I could never make my drum set sound like that! Keep up with the great music!
This band rivals Mile Davis' best. Omar and Brandford plays like they are channeling God/Allah. Kudos to Sting for picking some of the best musicians on the planet in the mid-1980s. The song and the performance takes your breath away. Real music. Curren$y et al, catch up...
ON THE HOOK in 6/8 time with the half feel coming in. And OMAR is in Heaven with Skin! There's no feeling like it... unless we die to ourselves. I love this! Janice Pendarvis (BGV), Branford Marsalis and Kenny are superb. Truly a fusion of avant garde treatments with such taste! So much for commercialism… music like this spits in the face of sycophant money hungry record executives feeding the public with pabulum instead of MEAT. Yeah… Lady Kaka! That’s funny.
'Brimstone and Trackles' LOL do you mean Brimstone & Treacle. The Police's version of I Burn For You is on the soundtrack album to Brimstone & Treacle, I have it on vinyl, it's a bit of a weird album, this great song is wasted on there. Also the song is on Message In A Box, the Police box set that came out in 1993. Sting doesn't play Burn for You much, such a shame, a lost treasure which could have gone on a Police album! He covered it on his symphonicity album last year, it's a nice version.
3:28!!!!!!!! the start of the coldest fury of taste, clarity, and just how to play the drums should be played with finesse, power, and looking good doing it. A lesson for all drummers old and new!
This tune sent chills down my spine the first time I heard it. It still does. Beautiful, haunting, sexy, scary, this was the best band ever assembled in my humble opinion.
Just look at Kenny's face at 3:34...watching Omar just inhabit the groove...you know it's impressive when a genius like Kirkland is in awe of what a guy is doing. Thanks SO MUCH for uploading this.
Lost in this magnificent percussion by Omar is Branford Marsalis outstanding Sax solo leading into percussion finish and magnificent phrasing. Again great musicians!!!
Sorry man, complete and utter fucking garbage is here to stay. And all we can do is watch it get worse, yes it will somehow get worse than lady shitmouth
@psingone Can't remember his name, but Nelly Furtado's tour drummer is an absolute beast. Nuno Bettencourt is Rihanna's tour guitarist. The good thing is....the Lady Gagas of the world subsidize these guys other projects, which in turn leads to more good music, not less. It's just not popular anymore, but so what?
i am a very big fan and i love your music very much and Your music has always spoken and holds a very special place in my heart . i would like to know where can i purchase a rare version of i burn for you from paris 1986 this specific version was my wedding song.when my wife passed away i lost this song in the transition .i would really like to own it again just to remember my beautiful wife roxanne Thank you for your time i'm at ashone420@hotmail.com
where can i go to get this specific version of this song in stereo This was my wedding song and when my wife passed i lost the ep it was on, i would really like to get it back thanks
For the people who think this is a "romantic" song...think again. It's about a creepy rapist who desires a woman who is paralyzed and unable to move. It's from the movie "Brimstone & Treacle" (1982), where Sting himself plays the lead role.
@bunniesonprozac - Ah, thanks for the heads up...I always thought it was originally from the soundtrack. But you have to say though, what a different angle it gets when in that context!!
if the song was written in 1974 (ish) how could it tell the story you describe for a movie that wouldn't be released for another 8 years.... given stings connection to the film, and song, its more a case of inspired music direction than anything else.
for me the most passionate, most erotique, most romantic song ever... and your love flows through me... this calm beggining and this wild, enthusiastic finish! just sexy... sting is amazing
@goldstadt May I suggest the movie "Brimstones and Trackles". Sting is playing the role of Martin, a very particular guy. The song is in the movie. Enjoy. Peace out.
When the other musicians stand back in awe.... did you see Kenny in the background with the GTFOoH grin? I am glad this thing is on video...cause I can never believe what I am seeing....
@baronpeter because either he played out of tune, played complete gibberish, or they forgot to plug the bastard in. Anyway, never mix two basses live, it'll sound like garbage.
I say Omar is related to the little girl from Everybody Hates Chris. They look waaaaayyyyyyy too much alike. Can anybody confirm??? Sting still rules the world, btw!!!
@campadair So, so true. It is spiritual. I'm in such joy when I hear the drumming solo in the movement with the music. The reward is such a pay off. Orgasmic. It hits such an African core in me. Omar and crew really take this song to even more heights. I love the original and ThePolice version as well.
I actually saw this in the theater when the movie originally came out, back when everyone was wondering if Sting had lost his mind... I'd never even heard of Omar at that time, but he totally blew my mind. I think I was 17 or so. This solo still gives me chills. It's really a thing of beauty. The music in this film as a whole really broadened my horizons.
This Vid never gets old.The amount of talent on that stage is sick. From Sting's songwriting to the masters on they're respective instruments,,Branford,Kenny,Omar, and Darryl the Mooch.Un Fricken Believable.Thanx for posting
the only drummer that i ever saw that could make all of the cymbals on a drumset move all at once was Keith Moon, but his was a different insanity altogether LOL
Omar's solo was how I like to solo, Its best when the band is in the moment with you. I hate when people put me on the spot by myself and im out there alone. but when I got the rhythm sec behind me pushing me the world becomes an open page.
The amazing thing about this song is Stewart Copeland heard Sting sing this with Last Exit, before the Police was formed and realised that here was someone he would love to have in his band. And just shotly after Sting moved from Newcastle to London. When Stewart heard that he could not wait to form a band with him. As I heard the story he invented a band that did not exist to make Sting join him. It became The Police. The song did not get famous untill afte the Police broke up. Weird right? :o)
Me too! My mom made me give MY tickets to my brother, beacuse I had school the next day. I missed one of the great drum solos ever, so I could get my freaking English syllabus... I still became a drummer though...and a teacher! LOL
I've been watching "Bring On The Night" since I was 13 years old. This performance blew me away then, and 20 years later, it still does. I have no doubt that if I live to see 80, I will still love this.
Omar Hakim really enjoys his moment! What a great drummer! I've seen this movie hundreds of times and always missed something: In this track you cant actually listen to Sting's Upright Bass. Darryl's line is well defined, holding the song together through Omar's solo, but the Double Bass just isnt there! I'd really like to listen to it but I think the sound engineers in charge left it out deliberately... Anyways, the full movie overall is great contribution to music. Thank you.
If you haven't seen it, check out the Bring On The Night dvd. As it explains, this is the concert before Dream Of The Blue Turtles was released. It was make-or-break, and is the foundation for all that followed - GREAT.
Me acuerdo en el documental, Sting lo probó a Omar en una cena, con dos tenedores en la mesa le hizo tocar algo.. y ahi quedó. Que bateros que tuvo Sting, Omar, Colaiuta, Manu... GREAT
Drache69, I was only joking. I dont think Sting is a pervert.. : ) Whoever he was looking at in the audience is pretty Lucky... I LOVE STING I ALWAYS HAVE...
Anyway why did you respond in German if you understand English HMMMMM????
I use to be a big Sting fan until he started using his name as the third person, (all the time); and I am a huge fan of this song, especially this live version, and make no mistake; this version is so dynamic because of the musicians used, in particular, Omar Hakim on the drums!
Essa é a música que mais gosto de Sting.Esse arranjo ficou maravilhoso, os músicos são excelentes, enfim, uma grande musica,de um grande músico.I LOVE STING!

I remember going to see Sting on this tour and I still get chills with how incredible this band played.

Omar was the coolest of all the Sting drummers. He is the jazziest of all the guys who came after. Vinnie is great and too good for Sting.

Was sting really looking at that girl or was it just camera tricks... I hope not...She looked 10 years old...

I use to be a big Sting fan until he started using his name as the third person, (all the time); and I am a huge fan of this song, especially this live version, and make no mistake; this version is so dynamic because of the musicians used, in particular, Omar Hakim on the drums!

If you don't know what the term, " in the zone, means...just watch Omar Hakim's drum solo.
