  • Currently reading "Drawing on the right side of the brain" and am really enjoying it. The exercises are so interesting and it is helping me to improve my drawing ability by allowing me to "see" in a whole new and more accurate way.

In response to the comment "what the heck is this? no one draws like this". Read the book, you my be surprised at the results considering that your comment indicates a perfect example of "left hemisphere" interference. Good luck :]

  • I bought the 1989 version of DOTRSOTB at a thrift store for less than a buck about 6 years ago. What a steal, this book is amazing!! By far the best i've read on learning to draw. This book can change your life.

  • I learned about this course maybe 25 years ago, and have wanted to take it ever since. I finally got onto Anna Black's course - last month - here in London. She is the only instructor outside the US - and 5 days of full-time instruction was a treat. 12 students, and everyone's progress was astonishing. I loved it, and what makes me sad is that I'll never be able to take the course again. This method is fantastic. We even had an art teacher as a fellow student.

  • Thumbs up if you suck at drawing

  • I'm enrolled in 3D game animation, and this book is used. It's a fine book from what I've read so far.

  • @Floreum hey your reason for getting this book is the exactly the same as mine, im trying to get into tradigital with the help of its methods to draw.

  • I got "Drawing On The Right Side of the Brain" on my 18th birthday.

    The best present ever.

I wish I can meet Dr. Betty Edwards in person.

She's the best drawing teacher, next to Andrew Loomis.

  • 28 years ago an older friend and talented artist recommended Edward's book to me. It changed my life. :) Thank you. I'm about to embark on a teaching "career" and it's one of my "Bibles".

  • thanx to betty edwards for this book, i never thought i could draw like i do now, she's an angel. i wish i could thank her in perso.

  • This video has the 'fragrance' of a commercial advertisement. How sad!

  • @yarmo28 We did in fact post this clip as an advertisement for Betty's Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain instructional DVD. The DVD, however, is not an advertisement - it's a popular, world-renowned course in drawing for beginning artists. So no need to feel sad about it!

  • i am in sint godelieve school for art

and i am learning your methodes =)

but it's like i'm in the army

we have an very rude teacher!

  • what the heck is this? nobody draws like this

  • @InnovationalFilms Betty's methods are a little different, but thousands of artists have been using them since she published her first book more than 30 years ago. Her book is still one of the best sellers in its categories on Amazon. We highly recommend that you give Betty's methods a try.

  • @CreativeCatalystTV I stand corrected and I apologize for being rude; that wasn't right. I spoke before I thought. After a little research I realize that this method is actually the mainstream method and for good reason. Too often do we base how we draw on an overly presuming and analytical thought process. This method is in fact the 'draw what you see not what you think you see' method or a form of it. So I guess everyone or most people draw like this hehe.

  • @InnovationalFilms Thanks! We appreciate your response.

  • @InnovationalFilms - You have NO clue what a great method this is to learn drawing fast. Don't comment if you haven't tried it.

  • Her book reinvents the way you think about drawing and hopes to teach you how to perceive things...

  • Easily one of the best, if not THE best "idiot proof" HOW TO DRAW BOOKS on the subject. Ive told my students about this book for YEARS. This book is a gem that truly teaches you everything you need to know about the subject in an easy to understand way.

  • About right brained drawing - is a good way for a precise copy, but it doesn't teach you how to draw from imagination. Using grid is not that bad for beginners.

  • I saw this as more of a learning tool, and not something that would be used beyond the scope of the book. It may be helpful for people who have a hard time visualizing how to transfer a 3d at a strange angle onto a 2d paper.

  • i would not advice this method. still life is all about practice. this removes a big part of the learning process of the proportions. even with no talent replace it with hard work and dedication and you will start to develop.

  • I never used this technique for making portraits, though my portraits are not bad :P

  • Do many people actually use the system described in this video?

  • @Fuliginosus

Are you kidding? "Drawing On The Right Side of the Brain" is one of the most popular books on drawing for people like you, who don't know how to draw.

  • @toonietoonz @goswami I agree. However, I'm not sure why Betty Edwards suddenly decided to put all these aids in the latest edition. The 1989 edition of the book is much better. It doesn't have all these mechanical aids

  • you sound very robotic. congrats.

  • ahi tienes la unidad basica!!!
