Ben Kenny just doesn't cut it as a bassist for me. Whatever animosity There is between Dirk and the other members (or more likely just Brandon) needs to just be squashed. 8 years is a long time 2 hold a grudge, and both Incubus & Dirk's musical efforts have steadily suffered since their split.

Man Incubus is good either way, new or old. It's so annoying when people complain about it. Musicians... artists change over time. It happens. Even if they kept their old base player they wouldn't have made the same type of music for the rest of their careers, they aren't that type of band. For me, this band is timeless.

every bass player should try to emulate the way dirk plays. study the way he plays and how he makes the music feel. I am a guitarist and dirk is my favorite part of incubus. unfortunately all the energy, angst, and darkness have left this band long ago. i dont understand why mike hasn't stepped up to be like "hey, do you guys ever wanna write tunes like we used to?"...BB would probably bitch slap him

dirk is the original bass player ^^ up there and one of the founding band members. Ben kenney was the new bass player as of their a crow left of the murder album which was released in 2004 if my memory is correct. Without getting technical like these bitches. Bottom line dirk could lay down some great funk lines. Awesome for incubus. Ben doesn't do it the same way he did and adding a new creative energy in general changed their sound completely. It was better before. Put simply.
Incubus did lose something when they lost Dirk. Its intangible. Dirk has that raw feel for the music. I heard they had a nasty breakup with him, but I would love to see him come back.
So yes, I agree with you. Not the same. But its still incubus.

I believe from a bass players point of view that Ben Kenney is better than Dirk Lance, and before anyone says it, ben can slap, watch a recent live redefine video. His skill is amazing, so is improvisation. For example sick sad little world is a challenging bass riff, and ben nails it as well as performing great backing vocals. He writes his own bass lines too, where as mike wrote Dirks. Im not slating Dirk at all, he was fantastic, i'm just saying ben is a top bass player.
Why are comparing the two one comes from a rap R&B background and another comes from jazz and funk two different styles and dirk lance does some sick slap any bass player that uses a pick is a over glorified guitar player. Sry to all the bass players that use picks but its my belief
I don't entirely agree or disagree, i do believe that bass should be mainly played with fingers, but picks are sometimes useful and suit certain songs better, especially songs that are too fast for the standard finger player. I believe the best bass players use both.

I can't stand de la Rocha's voice I'm afraid, and I think their riffs get a bit too similar. Incubus has much more variation in their music.
I liked Audioslave better, Chris Cornell really fit the band with his voice. However, Commerford is nowhere near the bassist Dirk is ;)
