Gotta love the response. Immediately after the first due engine arrived multiple other units are on the scene within seconds with about a dozen firefighters literally racing to the fire. Just over three minutes and they got water on the flames. As a New yorker I'm glad we have the hundreds of pieces of apparatus and the 11+ thousand members that help this city stay safe and keep running.

What you saw in the beggining is how turbulant that smoke is the thinkness of it the volume and speed and then flames rollin out. Thats called flashover everything in a room reaches the ignintion temp and catches fire. Thats why smoke changed and also the flames began comin out faster
It turns out that geographically the nearest firehouse to this location is actually Rescue 1, just five blocks south. Engine 54/Truck 4/Battalion 9 is only two blocks east, and Engine 34/Truck 21 is ten blocks south.
@denelson83 rescue probably wouldnt be requested to a fire of this size and nature, probably the typical response protocol for FDNY on a 10-75 (working fire) is 4 engines, 3 ladders, 2 battalion, and 1 rescue and/or squad if available/requested
I've got the FDNY Manhattan radio for this particular fire. It was in E54 and L4's first due originally put out for W48th & 10th Ave for a fire on the 2nd floor w/ multiple calls.
How i wish my homeland would get to this level of response by emergency apparatus. Its a pity to note that the city council of Nairobi has one fire truck on standby which takes ages to respond to a distress call.
@Tubetheweb well remeber the 911 call was probly made before he started the camera, so it may seem like a quick response but it probly wasnt as quick as it seems. but yes IS PRETTY quick.

Just curious if any FDNY member could tell me how many alarms a fire like this would go to? Also to the people questioning how things were done, shut up. I can't stand hearing people that are not from FDNY questioning how they do it. Nobody is perfect, but I don't know of any place I would rather be trapped in a fire, and I have worked the job for 18 years. Brother from StL.
gmc the phrases "engine" and "truck" are how we in the FDNY refer to the members of the companies operating. Said engine and truck were IN the building which is how a line operating into would have fried them. Dude just give it up. You said something stupid, youre wrong, and everyone fireman who has commented on your asinine idea has said it and explained why. Get over it and move on already.
gmc you are 100% WRONG! End of story. You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. A hose line into that window would have fried that whole truck and engine not to mention torched the whole building. We,unlike you, know what the hell we are doing when we go to a fire. A garden hose? Are you frigging serious?!
@jacobeast1 Are you crazy man. A hose through that window, how would it have fried the truck, and engine on the street. I said aim a spray at the wall, to stop the flames from going to the apartment above. Your obviously not a firefighter.
A fire engine supposedly carries 500 gallons of water. I do not see why one fireman could not of by 3:45 of the video, could not of pointed a hose toward that window, with the flames billowing out, attacking that fire.
@gmcbuses um, because you don't want to push the fire onto the firefighters inside the building conducting their search and rescue for one reason, next reason you push the fire to the exterior of the building not the interior so, by your thinking they could have had water on the window at 1:54. The only time I've ever seen water being used along the face of a building was to create a water curtain to protect the neighboring building from lighting off.
@gmcbuses You don't EVER put water through the only place that the fire is venting. That would have forced the fire back into the building and they would likely have lost the structure. Instead, they went in and forced the fire out, like they were supposed to do. This is FDNY, don't question them, especially if you aren't a firefighter
@dandoosh90 Second, watch the fire escape in the latter part of this video. Watch the person at the top floor get engulfed in smoke and heat and watch how long their in there for. Again, as an engine AND Truck chauffeur myself, clear the front and get a ladder onto the fireside of that building right away. That person on the fire escape should have been down from there a long time before that.
@TheGoalie213 idk, maybe you're right. My company 1st Lt. is in 4 Truck and I learned most of what I know from him. He's also basically brainwashed us kids in the company into thinking that FDNY is always right.
@dandoosh90 yeah, I know that they have to be removed before going into the shop otherwise they get glommed, but I still like the old fed mod 28, and on the NYPD RMPs I'd love to see the Fed Pulsator P 660 come back, you knew from the sirens who was who :)
@shadowwatcher42d A few FDNY trucks actually do have Q's. They just aren't standard and have to be removed before being sent into the workshops or they'll be taken. The Q at 5:50 is real.
I think they may have given this two alarms, or maybe went with a 10-75 on it.......deffinately heard a bunch of second due rigs later in the video though
@graves420fire Doubt it but it's possible. 10-75 comes with 4 Engines, 2 Trucks, 2 Bat. Chiefs, A Rescue, A Squad, and an additional ladder as a FAST truck. They can also request an additional 2 engines and ladders if they transmit an All-Hands operating. Any more units needs an additional alarm.
do they leave the siren on to help people evacuate the area? maybe people with no smoke alarms or something so they say "whats that?" and look out and see a fire?
hells kitchen is puszy now.. bak in da day it use to go hard wit da mafia and all dat.. but now theres a bunch of puszy asz white ppl. fuken dumb bitches
Great job FDNY as always....only one thing. Why in God's earth would the first due engine pull up literally under the fire window, especially being it is on the corner of the block? As a truckie myself....you always clear the fire building as much as possible to allow your ladder companies to access the building from all angles....
@TheGoalie213 the fdny does has its own strategies of doings things. they know the city. the street was cramped with constructiong . ladder trucks cant get into it. only from the side. who ever is there first basically gets the spot. your not going to wait and say "oh we're going to let the ladder truck come to this. and were gunna move back out now..."
@dandoosh90 Watch the video in it's entirety again. Two things...First, the engine pulls up UNDER THE FIRE as it's blowing out two windows. Engine 54, as all side mount pumpers are, have the pump panel on the driver's side. Where is the fire? On the driver;s side of the truck. First and most important thing, you protect yourselves first.
@longislandy the first due engine could have easily had access to that hydrant had they pulled up a few feet more and allowed the truck to sit on the corner.
@TheGoalie213 All of these companies have radio's. If the first due truck had an issue with the first due engine setting up where they did, it would have been transmitted over the air and the resources relocated. First due companies are usually very familiar with their response area and this may have been the only hydrant close enough to make a quick attack on an obviously old structure with lots of fire potential and as you can see from later in the video, aerials can be extended where needed.
notice the guys on the first engine no panic just a time to work attitude your witnessing a dying art interior firefighting the fdny continues to set the bar great job from and keep on setting the standard fom local 1 pittsburgh
Nice vid. All Hands? Maybe even a 2nd Alarm? Not so much for the amount of fire but for the size of the building. Knock down in about 4 minutes from time of arrival...not too shabby, brothers!
Looks like the OV from 21 truck did some nice work.. you can see him entering the FE with fire just starting to roll out the window. I'm sure he got atleast that bedroom done before the engine started their push. Nice work brothers
My cousin lives there, theres a park across that street and there is also a like hotel i think or something fancy across that street. theres a community garden not to far. The people who own that deli are like arabian i think
styrenepackaging stop commenting on thing you have no idea about u dont flow water into a building to put out a fire because u could kill the firefighters inside unless the initial attack isnt working and you switch to a defensive mode and surround and drown at which time everyone is out of the building and just flow water from every vantage point
If styrenepackaging Knew anything about firefightig, Peoples lives are always more important than a little canopy fire. Think before you open your mouth next time!!!
Well if styrenepackaging knew even alittle bit more about firefighter he would know they were most likely the F.A.S.T. team and they have an assigned job.
Styrenepackaging is obviously an idiot. If he knew anything about fire fighting he would know that maybe rescueing the people trapped on the floors above the fire is a little more important then putting out the small canopy on fire. Maybe you should think before you open your mouth idiot.
it would have a 1st. response for a 10-75 working fire 3 engines 2 trucks 1 battalion 1 rescue. apone arrival it would then for this call be transmitted a 10-75 all hand which bring in 2 more engines 1 ladder 1 fast truck 1 sat. unit 2 battalions 1 rac unit. but due to the size of the building they may have trans a 2nd alarm which bring an additional 3 engines 3 trucks 2 batt. 1 rescue 1 fast truck ems would be 1 als 2 bls rigs
@firemann45 obvisiously you have no idea of FDNY Dispatch Protocol.
10-75 working fire= 4 Engines, 2 Trucks, 1 FAST-Truck, 2 Battalions, Squad and Rescue. 7-5 All Hands working brings a Division Chief and a RAC.
A second Alarm brings 4 additional Engines, 2 Ladders, Safety Officer, Resource Unit Leader, Sattelite, Field Comm and TCU, TSU, Safety+Rescue Ops Battalion.

Sad that if people had fire extingushers AND the balls to use them;
1)fire might have been stopped BEFORE it ruined the Apts/store.
2)Delayed spreading of it till the FDNY arrived &limit damage caused.
People see fire/smoke &run. They should do the basic'first aid'before/while calling 911.BEFORE it gets out of hand.
Guess people are MORE afraid of fire than needed.

francy81tati 1 year ago
Hi,
Did you ever hear what caused the Hell's kitchen fire?
I know that was awhile back.
I just saw the video for the 1st time.
Great job on the video, apparently you were the only one that uploaded a video on it.
clubfoote1960 1 year ago
I'm impressed with the fdnys back up that they got. The fire was almost out and they still had trucks coming.
rich12508 1 year ago
Great job FDNY as always....only one thing. Why in God's earth would the first due engine pull up literally under the fire window, especially being it is on the corner of the block? As a truckie myself....you always clear the fire building as much as possible to allow your ladder companies to access the building from all angles....
TheGoalie213 1 year ago 18
@TheGoalie213 did you miss the hydrant on the corner?
shadowwatcher42d 1 year ago
@TheGoalie213 correct.....truck gets the structure
RonaldReagan7 1 year ago
@TheGoalie213 the fdny does has its own strategies of doings things. they know the city. the street was cramped with constructiong . ladder trucks cant get into it. only from the side. who ever is there first basically gets the spot. your not going to wait and say "oh we're going to let the ladder truck come to this. and were gunna move back out now..."
jasonbsa 1 year ago
@TheGoalie213 the front of the building was completely open for the trucks. No problems.
dandoosh90 1 year ago
@dandoosh90 Watch the video in it's entirety again. Two things...First, the engine pulls up UNDER THE FIRE as it's blowing out two windows. Engine 54, as all side mount pumpers are, have the pump panel on the driver's side. Where is the fire? On the driver;s side of the truck. First and most important thing, you protect yourselves first.
TheGoalie213 1 year ago
@TheGoalie213 i think because those trucks are supposed to hook up to the hydrant...like the one they pulled up to...not sure tho

@TheGoalie213 See the hydrant?
longislandy 1 year ago
@longislandy the first due engine could have easily had access to that hydrant had they pulled up a few feet more and allowed the truck to sit on the corner.
yonkersfugitive 1 year ago
@TheGoalie213 All of these companies have radio's. If the first due truck had an issue with the first due engine setting up where they did, it would have been transmitted over the air and the resources relocated. First due companies are usually very familiar with their response area and this may have been the only hydrant close enough to make a quick attack on an obviously old structure with lots of fire potential and as you can see from later in the video, aerials can be extended where needed.
brendan129 1 year ago
@TheGoalie213 they cant give there ladder truck becouse he need more spase to prepare it.
Usually they use ladder truck to get firemens to other floor to rescue victims
smazakk 1 year ago
Exactly why his under the window...he pulled up right next to the hydrant and left an entire lane open for the Truck

@TheGoalie213 idk it depends i guess where dispatch even if they did tell where the fire start

I'll continue the bashing. If styrene knew anything, he would know that FDNY doesn't carry water on their rigs.

@Styrene...
They shouldve thrown a tiller right up in front so they could reach the canopy
They should had like 3 lines and a back up
Theres no idling with the Styrenepackaging FD, Thats for sure
Them midtown FDNY (A) companies could sure learn alot from styrene.
Lol
nycsentinel 1 year ago
@styrene...
Gosh, you must be the old crusty one man fire dept.
The Brothers shouldve just stood there an wetted down the burning canopy instead taking the leadout to rescue the people inside the burning building.

That's a job! 10-75 on arrival, I'll bet.
Nice vid. All Hands? Maybe even a 2nd Alarm? Not so much for the amount of fire but for the size of the building. Knock down in about 4 minutes from time of arrival...not too shabby, brothers!

styrenepackaging stop commenting on thing you have no idea about u dont flow water into a building to put out a fire because u could kill the firefighters inside unless the initial attack isnt working and you switch to a defensive mode and surround and drown at which time everyone is out of the building and just flow water from every vantage point
JACKHAMMER82A1 2 years ago 2
If styrenepackaging Knew anything about firefightig, Peoples lives are always more important than a little canopy fire. Think before you open your mouth next time!!!
HLFaison 2 years ago
Well if styrenepackaging knew even alittle bit more about firefighter he would know they were most likely the F.A.S.T. team and they have an assigned job.
truckie3200 2 years ago
Styrenepackaging is obviously an idiot. If he knew anything about fire fighting he would know that maybe rescueing the people trapped on the floors above the fire is a little more important then putting out the small canopy on fire. Maybe you should think before you open your mouth idiot.
smokeaterhalo 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
What a useless set of idle firemen , they let the canopy burn and did not use water from the tender to put the window blaze out.
Fucking crap bone idle twats.
styrenepackaging 2 years ago
wow you must be some special type of a super firefighter to make that assumption, im sure your the pride of your dept!
the canopy you friggan moron?

Does anyone know what the full assignment of resources was for this incident ?
stretch45g 2 years ago
it would have a 1st. response for a 10-75 working fire 3 engines 2 trucks 1 battalion 1 rescue. apone arrival it would then for this call be transmitted a 10-75 all hand which bring in 2 more engines 1 ladder 1 fast truck 1 sat. unit 2 battalions 1 rac unit. but due to the size of the building they may have trans a 2nd alarm which bring an additional 3 engines 3 trucks 2 batt. 1 rescue 1 fast truck ems would be 1 als 2 bls rigs
firemann45 2 years ago
@firemann45 obvisiously you have no idea of FDNY Dispatch Protocol.
10-75 working fire= 4 Engines, 2 Trucks, 1 FAST-Truck, 2 Battalions, Squad and Rescue. 7-5 All Hands working brings a Division Chief and a RAC.
A second Alarm brings 4 additional Engines, 2 Ladders, Safety Officer, Resource Unit Leader, Sattelite, Field Comm and TCU, TSU, Safety+Rescue Ops Battalion.
EMS stands by with 2 BLS and the FDNY CPR Engine.

Nice job, nice vid. One room worth of fire. All-hands at best, probably will hold after about 6 minutes of the first 10-84.
Shaddap to the stupid wife/girlfriend commenting during the video.
