"The reason behind HK's success is because of the British"? Are you kidding me? The major reason behind HK's prosperity over the last 30 years before the handover is because of HK's role in exporting mainland goods, which mainland China cannot directly export to the west because of trade sanctions. Now that China has opened up to the world, it's time for Hong Kong to develop its own industry. 7 million people cannot live on service industry alone. Stop sucking up to the British. We're Chinese!
@PenileFracture Lol you just made yourself and your people loose face big time by not being able to act like an intelligent human being and respond to my comment. What are you 12? Did I make you sad sad sad lol. Say something again humiliate yourself more its fun for the rest of us...you know...laughing at you.
@asasasasdasas Actually no. After reading your comment I realized there was nothing I needed to waste my breath arguing with you about, since you made no valid point whatsoever. Therefore I responded with a equally stupid retort.
@asasasasdasas You're right. I am terrified of facing you in an internet comment argument. How wise you are. Your sheer intelligence is enough to make me wet myself from the other side of Earth, let alone your commentary prowess. Hear this, internet! "asassasdasa" is the greatest warrior on Youtube. He has mastered grade 4 grammar and is not afraid to use it to mercilessly mock you. Not giving a shit about what he says the your only chance of survival!
@stonebreaker99 Come 2050 many young people who came out of school would have said Long Live Deng! or Long live China! Not sure if they were brainwashed into doing so during school times.
@hkbus2007 Well some people do say in "British Hong Kong" is that HK is successful cos of China's open policy and hard working Hk people and that Britain is going downhill with problems. HK have no problems with China so it seems.
it reads :-
"Despite some local politics, Hong Kong is doing very well, thanks to China's open policy and the hardworking Hong Kong people.
The UK is going downhill with huge debt and unemployment. I am glad that Hong Kong is no longer British."
Britain wasn't great rulers of HK, they were great supervisors. Technically speaking Britain did almost nothing at all while ruling HK, but it is because of this lack of government intervention that allowed the HK people to work in a complete free market economy and reap the rewards of their hard work.

@WuTangtst, do you think I could have written that if i weren't Chinese.
I think we have some misunderstanding between us and I really don't feel like exchanging rude comments here. I apologize for the not so nice words I say about you but you leaving very rude comments on my profile is totally unacceptable.
@WuTangtst , your comment just shows how ignorant you are. how old are you? i have a feeling you're under 20.
if you have some basic knowledge about economics and know what sustainable growth means, you'd realise that chinese is developing its economy at a huge social cost in the form of environmental degradation as well as a widening poverty gap.
china faces desertification, air pollution and many other problems.
@mlsi What policies can you propose for the Chinese to resolve the social disparities and income inequality, but at the same time bring about higher social welfare? There is not even one country in this world that can complete close of their income gap. List me one! In Japan, the debt to GDP is 1.20. What do u have to say about their deflation struggle.
@WuTangtst, as for the poverty gap, i think you can do soem googling yourself. and if you will pay closer attention to what's been going on in china, you'd realize that ppl are starting to get real upset with the poverty disparity and other problems.
a developing country is bound to have problems but could china have done better? and please, before you go make rude comments, do your hw first.
@mlsi The Chinese went from 1 trillion GDP in 2003 to almost 5 trillion as of 2010, rivaling Japan. If you understand economics, you would know that the Chinese country is an industrialized nation. There is trade-off between tight social regulation and economic expansion. On the one hand, they ask for deregulation and less control over business operations. Lower poverty levels. On the other hand, someone is complaining about polution, and asking for "even lower" poverty levels.
@WuTangtst What you presented are numbers. The Japs have high national debts but their people have very high standard of living. What about China? The social security system is virtually nonexistent. The migrants workers' lives are similar to the peasants' back in teh Qing Dynasty!
I guess I wasn't making myself clear earlier. A wise gov't will know that China's net gain from the factories could well in negative given all the social costs. ARe there are ways to develop the economy? Yes.
@mlsi You have not answered my question as to economic policies. If you want contribute to society, do yourself a favour, get yourself a Ph.d rather than cry all day. You see, i don't represent the gov't, so don't go on telling me your opinion that i don't care about. You gave me your opinion at first that i did not welcome.
Hong Kong and its people will always be great no matter who's flag flies over it. The British may have helped make Hong Kong as successful as it is today. But it was the Hong Kong people, with their hard work and dedication who truely made it such a success. Hong Kongs people must always be proud of who they are, of their Democracy and it's values and unique culture. May Hong Kong be so great for centuries more!
