  • I think WetFire has a 3-year "shelf life".

  • the best way to soak the vasoline into the cotton is to warm it until it melt into a liquid. then dip the cotton into the liquid petroleum jelly. presto! no more trying to mush the petroleum into the cotton

  • Try to heat the petroleum jelly so that it go deeper inside the cotton ball... and without compacting the ball too much.

  • Good video. Covered all the bases pretty well. I think I like the cotton balls best. Much cheaper and works almost as well as the WetFire.

  • I prefer the cotton ball technique. Thanks for sharing you skills.

  • Thanks for the info...very useful.

  • I can only see his face and lower arms.

  • lol, they are like crack rocks.

  • I have found that wetfire deteriorates over time and stops working.

  • i guess thats y they call it wet fire

  • good video!!!!! Keep up the good work!!

  • Awesome video. Thank you.

  • Cotton makes me cringe. It's like nails on a chalkboard kinda thing. Ewww

  • Both good items I carry both but wet fire about a buck each cotton balls too cheap to count. Your right about Mora knives, great swedish steel. I have 1 in every pack and car.

  • is wetfire is just hexamine?

  • Very nice video. Very informative. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.

  • what kinda starter is that

  • Blastmatch by ultimate survival technologies.

  • @2brothersadventures how long do they stay in working condition?

  • @fossilpro We have used our BlastMatches for several years now with no apparent issues. Our kids all use the same ones too. the great thing about them is that even if they break you can still strike the sparks if you have a knife or other metal object to scrape it with. The wet fire is proving to kind of temperamental for us. The first stuff we used a few years ago was great. Some of the most recent batches seam to be different to us, and not as great.

  • the wet fire that came with my blast match was defective only small corner burnt then it went out ...tryed many times to light

was yours hard a rock? or is it suppose to be soft ? funny i would of been dead if a small kit with this tender

  • @gasdorf It is should be firm and wet feeling. If that makes any sense?

  • @gasdorf Always have a back up. And then have a back up for a back up for a back up......

  • LOL shit fire fire (thats a good way of making cottonballs )

  • love the cotton ball thing use it all the time to make fires in my pit but i just have to ask what knife do you have, i already have my own survival knife that i'm happy with but which one do you have? Please give website or store name just for me to look i like the holster it comes with

  • The knife I use in this video is a Frost Mora Clipper. You can find them all over the internet for under 20 dollars. I got this one off of EBAY for $16 including shipping. They are great knives and if you break it or lose it, you don't have to cry because you are out a ton of money.

  • I love those frost mora knives!

  • @2brothersadventures Yeah they good for the money. In fact I've have heard the Swedes laugh at the price we pay for them.

  • We paid $18 each for our Blast Matches. We got them at Sportsman's Warehouse.

  • i never use a lighter when starting a fire any more i use my blast match or LMF but i like the blast match better

i mainly just use a bit of dryer lint and birtch bark to start a fire cuz the cotton balls are too messy but where you guys are in the desert thats prolly hard to find birtch bark lol. you should find a natural tinder that lights EZ and for a long time

  • We love our blastmatchs too. Believe it or no, there is lots of nice tinder in the desert. There are many types of grasses and bushes that burn readily with a spark. You are right, no birch trees here, bummer.

  • problem is its prolly to dry to keep burning thats why i use birtch

  • you can just crush the wet fire between your fingers if you dont have a knife on ya.

  • I haven't tried that myself, but I am sure it will work. Thanks for the tip. I am always willing to learn a new technique.
