  • Just out of curiosity... how does an automatic watch work on the moon? :)

  • well deserved!!!!!

  • I THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS GOING TO DIE WITH THAT SCARY MUSIC!

  • @PUNISHERUltra : PROBABLY!

  • A-frickin-mazing! Congrats!

  • @Analocalypse You can get a model with a saphire case back.

  • how much was it?

  • Omega? Moon time hasn't been concieved yet.

  • ahh! I am so jealous, I am saving up all I can for this watch. Congratulations!

  • Ehehe, Thanks Spinna...save save, soon you will get it. Bye.

  • well done, sir! got my speedy for x mas 2010. glad you got one too. with regular maintenance she will last you your lifetime.

  • @frfsolrac77 Compliments for your gift, i agree with you. Bye

  • very nice watch

  • Mechanical Engineering is a scary hard degree to attain...congrats, sir!

  • Thanks, sorry if I answer so late, in general, I agree with you, but I think the difficulty is only the beginning, after having acquired some knowledge of mathematics is just starting to apply to specific magnitudes and equations encountered in various examinations and to be able to deal with specific problems. But of course as you teach in the United States there are universities where the level of difficulties can change a lot. Or at least that's what I hear on TV from my country ;) Bye!

  • @radicaledward40 Thanks, Regards.

  • It's a bit late but congrats any way ;))

What a beautiful watch! I got a nice Chrono to my 30th birthday from my parents.

  • @lighthunter1980: Thank you, I'm one of those who think (in general) that it's never too late. I'm curious, which watch have they given to you? Bye.

  • @Foxbat1883 i know several people who have that watch. all of them have owned it for 20+ years and swear by it. they say it works under every condition...plus its a down right badass looking watch your one lucky guy

  • @ch1ldpr3d3t0r At a distance of 2 years from the video I can tell you that for me (that now work away from home) is a great traveling companion. When I look it and think to home and to the people that I love and have left, at the same time I think of what the astronauts must have thought 42 years ago. With the necessary proportions, its a great feeling. No one can do the same, and now also has a scratch! ;-) Bye!

  • congratulations coleague!you deserve, the watch is a beauty! top watch for a top profession.

  • @daswurger: Thanks friend, I wish you the best.

  • 7 YEARS!! Congrats on passing your degree more so then getting the watch! Great present though as it'll last you a lifetime.

  • hope you love your watch. enjoy it.

  • this watch is automatic?

  • @Slash131293 No, you have to wind it manually (100% sure of that fact), as i understand that is the reason it is called professional.

  • I think everyone is getting a bit carried away with this watch: A) The movement is not that great. It's a Lemania mass produced movement, lightly finished by omega. B) This watch or any other speedmaster you buy has not been to the moon. The actual watch that went to the moon is in the NASA museum. C) It's a swatch watch.

I could go on, but I think you get the message. Any watch connoisseur knows what to look for in a fine watch and these are far from fine. They are however mechanically sound.

  • @aberdeendeltaforce: I appreciate your comment that exposes the negativity (presumed) of my watch, I will try to answer honestly.

The movement is not the top but there are more noble watches with lower mechanical (Do not hide my ignorance on the details), I know that my model has not been on the moon, but I like to think that it is ready to do it.

It is a "Swatch" in the same measure that a Ferrari is a Fiat, rather suggest you a watch in the same price that can compete with the Speed Master.

  • @Foxbat1883 Lets face it for £2500 you are not going to get an in house movement in any watch, so based on that I would go for an IWC Pilot Mark XVI. The IWC pilot is regarded among watch enthusiasts to be a collectors first serious watch. It uses an ETA 2824-2 Automatic movement (Yes I Know Swatch) however this is where it ends IWC totally remodel it in the same way AMG remodels a Mercedes. IWC call it the 30110-calibre automatic movement. This watch from an all round point of view is the best?

  • @Foxbat1883 Continued: The IWC pilot mark XVI is the cheapest model they produce, it is not a chrono like the omega, just a date/time movement, an IWC chrono would cost you £6000+ so If it's a chrono you want then you have done pretty good with the omega as it is still is beautiful watch, I dont like the fact that after bond started wearing one the price doubled and people are starting to refer to it as a fashion watch like gucci etc. IWC are still only known to people who know about watches.

  • @aberdeendeltaforce: Well that IWC has been used in the movie 2012... whereas mine is really gone to the moon, already this comparison is rather embarrassing is not it?

On the movement of IWC (ETA 2824-2), I found that is in many watches under 1000 € and mechanical costs only $ 78 ... designed in 1982 (against 1969-70) is compared to ones used in the Citizen Miyota. Ok the IWC is deeply reviewed, but always loses 4 sec / day. But if you like the IWC accommodated ... I hold the Speed Master.

  • @Foxbat1883 I think your missing the point? You failed to pick up on the fact that the movement on the IWC is heavily upgraded in house, where as the omega is just polished up a bit, i.e not improved from stock. The ETA 2824-2 may well be in cheaper watches, but not the 2824-2A, however the level of modification will be reflected in the price. You asked me what watch I'd have for the money and I told you, I actually own a Bremont an Oris and a Patek, I am about to purchase the IWC.

  • @Foxbat1883 continued: Any modern mechanical watch will be capable of performing in space these days, and I'm not saying you have a bad watch, I just feel it's overpriced and too hyped up. I actually think it looks amazing but I would never have one simply because it has become far too commercial and lacks exclusivity. I know at least 10 people that have one here in Aberdeen alone, I"ve yet to meet someone with an IWC, Bremont, Patek (A Real one anyway)

  • @aberdeendeltaforce: I haven't missed the point, you compare the mechanical construction of newer (base mechanics, but very optimized) at the Omega (less tuned but better at starting point). I do not have the technical elements to bring you to verify step by step diversity, but when the Moonwatch was chosen, had to overcome competition from 12 other watches and I do not know if among them was an IWC.

The IWC is superior in terms of accuracy do not doubt it, but is a watch of an another era.

  • @Foxbat1883 It was six of the shelf watches, Rolex, Breitling, Bulova, Longines, and TAG Heuer that all failed the vibration test, the tag failed all tests, extreme temp etc. Apollo 15 commander Dave Scott wore a Speedmaster, but switched to a Waltham chronograph for his third EVA after the hesalite crystal of his Speedmaster was lost during the previous spacewalk. Omegas were and still are built like tanks which brings me back to my very first comment...Mechanically sound yet not very fine.

  • A very beautiful watch. I'm actually debating whether i should get this speedmaster or the planet ocean.. any idea?

  • @frommanhattan42 : Sorry if I answer only now, I must tell you that in my view the choice of a clock is always very personal.

However I must say that I really like the Planet Ocean and between the two I would in doubt. In any case I think they both do their beautiful shape and any choices you make you will not regret. Greetings

  • Nice video and beautiful watch. What a nice present! And congrats.

  • @mgscheue: Thanks, you're welcome.

  • Beautiful watch and nice video. What a great present!

  • Hi, beautiful Watch.

I have an 145022-69ST from 1969, with the original Crater Box.

    I love this Watch.

  • This watch is fantastic, I too am the proud owner of an omega speedmaster professional and every time I put it on the wrist, I feel I've been a piece of history .. been on the market since 1957 has not undergone aesthetic changes, and still retains the crystal plexyglass .. machinery is mounted since 1968, is the caliber 1861, robust and reliable as few ... I love the clock.

    regards

  • its really nice watch, i think this is a great gift, and one of the best gift that the person wish to have after the graduation.

  • I thank you for this your comment, I am absolutely in agreement with you but not because I have the watch, but because I think that after a long period of sacrifices there is anything more beautiful than to receive something that is almost dreamed up to that instant (obviously in line with own economic conditions), something that doesn't grow old, that has a great history behind shoulders (both technological and human) and that when I will be old I can leave to my child, and him to his. Goodbye

  • Wow, really warm feeling about this video. Can you tell me about the accuracy of the watch? Mine has to be adjusted every week or so? is it normal?

  • Hi, sorry if I answer so late, unfortunately, are about 3 months that i'm away from home, because I'm doing an internship as engineer in an aviation company in my country, and I didn't felt to bring with me the Speed Master (but now i'm regretting this choice). So i can not give an instant opinion, from what I remember mine was accurate, i compared often with the clock of the satellite receiver, just giving the charge. Bye

  • congratulations on passing your exams, lush watch i have the Planet ocean.

  • congratulaions on your exams stunning watch i have the Omega Po

  • i am doing mechnical eng now good luck to me i guess

  • nice watch. your parents got good taste.

  • do hesalit crystals scratch or are they basically the same as sapphire crystals?

  • Hi, granted that my clock doesn't have scratches, this is a possibility that could happen...if you care about numbers i can tell you that glass in hesalite has a Vickers hardness between 500-600 (it' s a plastic glass), while a sapphire glass/crystal oscillates between 2200-2300 Vickers, but the first is much more clear and visible in all light conditions. Byez.

  • thanks, and by the way, beautiful watch!

  • This is an amazing watch! Please could you tell me how much I could expect to pay for this watch like yours?

  • Thanks Habits! I think that depends in which country you live...in Europe it costs more than 2200 €, around 3000 $ actual.

  • lol Mass Effect Music -.-

    nice Watch though

  • Ehehe now I'm trying to play with episode two but I have very little time left ... great game anyway. Bye!

  • @Foxbat1883 You're right, both Mass Effect games are good :)

  • thanks for posting this , you have helped me make up my mind im definately getting one now very soon ! by the way what do you think of it up to now ??

  • Hi Bren, I'm happy to have been helpful in your choice, I'm sorry if I answer so late. I am satisfied with the clock, perhaps the only advice i can give you, is on the strap, try different configurations with your watchmaker, because, for example, when i bend my wrist it is tight and make me a little discomfort. I feel also to suggest you going to see clocks with the same price (compare) to make your choice (if you have not already done) safer. For the rest goes like a Swiss watch :D Byez!

  • 2:02 what is the watch next to the supreme commander DVD ? :D Just curious

  • (─‿‿─) Eheehe, good observation ... it is a gift too ... it is a CITIZEN Aqualand Eco Drive Titanium, a good watch ... but the water detection sensor is too sensitive to humidity and sweat. We say that is a "war clock" :D

  • In any case congratulations for getting this legendary watch.

Take care of the acrylic glass and may you achieve many great things whilst wearing this watch.

  • Thanks Kokoa, I wish the same for your Seamaster. Bye

  • 1:18 dead fly in the box?

  • :D No, but it would seem exactly what you wrote ... it is rather an anomaly of the construction process of the damping material ... if you want, call it "a fault".

    Bye

  • Wehee thanks for the clarification :)

My box does not have the fault. Maybe you could ask for a new box from the retailer? Maybe the warranty covers it? After all, you would want to have the whole set, including the watch, in perfect order after you paid such money for it.

+ I guess you are more entitled than me to have the box in order. I got the Seamaster Professional which is slightly less expensive than the Speedmaster :P

Btw Did yours come with the anniversary Speedmaster pen?

  • I don't think the problem with the packaging is so important to motivate the replacement ... and no, I haven't asked for the anniversary pen. I don't care. :D

  • The Speedmaster was an excellent choice for a watch. Its unique history means it will always be a classic; its timeless design means it will never go out of style; and Omega's craftsmanship and outstanding service will ensure your watch will be with be passed down to your own son one day.

I bought my Speedmaster a little over two years ago, and I've worn it every day since. It's such a cool watch!

  • Well said Johnny! Compliments for your channel. Bye.

  • Whats the synth song in the begining

  • @Doctorgunz , Search: "Mass Effect Soundtrack"; is the 5th piece (Saren). Byez.

  • I graduated in software engineering a week ago, and my parents gave me nothing :(

  • I'm sorry for that...maybe they will do soon...I would ask you if your title is a Master's degree, and how works the pattern of study in your country, because is always difficoult make a comparison between different countries. Bye

  • Our educational system is currently in process of synchronization with EU standards. So there is BSc, Msc and PhD. I'm actually BSc now, but should get that MSc degree soon.

  • @sweetlemonade123, Ok...i agree with your parents...you have to take the MSc for the Speedmaster. ;-) Ciao.

  • That right there...is a classic my friend.

  • you deserve it dude and i think your parents are wonderful,my advise to you is to pay back both of them dady with a rolex deep sea and mamy with a neklace with a peice of bleue daimon, love it

  • good job on the degree man

  • Ha, nice watch. I'm about to graduate myself with electromechanical engineering degree. I'd love one of these. How much does one of these go for?

  • They haven't told me the price, but I think that it cost + of 2200 € (3300 $ actually). Bye.

  • congratulations. it's a classic watch and well deserved.

  • Thanks Foxy. ciao.

  • A timeless watch... Nice choice. Enjoy.

  • Thanks Phoenix, Byez.

    (¬‿¬)

  • I got an RX-8 for my grad gift... BSEE woot

  • Hi Marky, congrats for your title, and for your new RX8...i don't know if you are graduated in mech. engineering too, but I hope you know the drawbacks of the Wankel engine (also your Renesis), among all the low estate of the walls of the stator after a certain number of kilometers traveled...and the high consumption values relative to an engine of equal power (not engine displacement). Of course also has a very positive sides as the least number of moving parts, light weight, etc. But...

  • Congratulations men, I really like this watch, good vid.

  • Grazie, ciao.

    (¬‿¬)

  • Beautiful piece of machinery right? I just saw the message at the end of your video. My parents gave me this same watch for the exact same reason haha I'm a mechanical engineer too, what a coincidence. My father said it's been worn by some of the greatest minds of the XX century so that's why he picked this one. This is a proper engineer's watch

  • Compliments Memodeh, in effects now that I think the watch represents one of the most typical gifts of degree (at least in my country) but our model represents something more of well know brand watch.

    Ciao. (¬‿¬)

  • Hey Foxbat! Do you think a speedy can look good with a rubber strap?? I know the speedy is a 20mm fit but I just wanna try something new.

  • Why not Lousy...I'm always open to new experiments :)...honestly i prefer classical versions...but this clock has been created for precursors...in any field. ٩(-̮̮̃•̃)۶

    Ciao!

  • Well done on achieving your Degree and your amazing watch.

  • Thanks Man.

    Best Regards.

  • Omegas are made to be worn, not kept behind a glass case.

  • You're right, this watch is for using it!!!! scratches? what a hell? is saphire so it wont scratch. And the bracalet is not important as the watch itself right! so use it, and use it right!

  • Hi Shumito, happy that you see the matter as me...but I must tell you that the glass of the Moonwatch is not in sapphire but in "Hesalite", it is substantially a plastic crystal but with some particular characteristics, the most peculiar is the extreme clarity which makes the quadrant visible under all the conditions of light, more than a simple glass in sapphire, but it is more subject to scratch (this is the "reverse of the medal"). (¬‿¬)

    Regards.

  • For heavens sake you should never handle your Speedmaster with bare hands as this will unduly lead to it being scratched and the sweat from your skin is deadly on such a fine watch.

All jewellers handle fine watches like this with lint free cotton gloves so the watch remains blemish free.

If this watch was purchased as an investment condition is everything, even the smallest blemish will decrease it value.

Look after it more carefully and it will retain its value.

  • I'm not maniac until this point ... I am much more!

Now the clock is in a sterile chamber in which it was created a vacuum, the temperature is constant at around 25 ° C (77° F) and the value of humidity is low, also the sun's rays do not affect them directly.

    Happy?

  • Maniac or not, recently whilst selling my 1979 Rolex Explorer Orangehand 1655 model i would have been offered £3000 more for it if it had been in superb condition with all paperwork and fully boxed

You see condition is everything especially with the Speedmaster and certain Rolex models.

You only have to look on ebay to see how many Speedmasters are for sale

If you need to sell your watch a dealer will give a price depending on its condition

I only wish i had looked after that Rolex.

  • Ok...it is obvious that in the preceding answer I was joking...if I have made to give me this clock it's for using him, otherwise I went to see it to the jeweler and enough...it is useless to hold an object in safe for years without never using it...so much you are so affectionate that you will never sell it. I see the problem in this way. Bye.

  • Well done with your studies! I have the speedy too but I got the "Moon to mars" edition. I love the classic look but I just prefer a more colorful model!

  • Hi Lousy, thank you.

Compliments for yours "Moon to Mars", certainly is a model even more exclusive than classic Moonwatch.

I saw your channel and I agree that the GS Adventure is one of the best bikes in circulation, and the photo is really nice. At home I have a Tmax (05) and i feel good because it is both practical and fast (obviously, not as a motorcycle). (¬‿¬) Ciao.

  • Excellent video of your lovely new Speedy - I hope you enjoy it for years to come. You're a lucky chap to have parents who'll get you that watch. Congratulations on your exams and of course the Speedmaster

  • Thanks dkpw, I know...I've fantastic parents that would do anything for me, but don't think that I'm (was) a spoiled child. Bye.

  • este reloj es realmente muy bueno.

  • Dopo averlo messo diverse volte lo penso anch'io sempre di più.

    ---------------------------------------------------------

I take this opportunity to say thanks to all those who have seen the video and gave a positive assessment, especially in successive days at the 40th anniversary of the landing.

    Grazie.

  • Congrats, I am a mechanical engineer myself, maybe I should get myself a speedy when I finish my MSc. :)

  • Thanks Muratb, and compliments for your title considering your young age, I'm sure that you will take with your first wage. ;-) Ciao.

  • well thought over gift, and a watch for life.i own a speedie myself they are a great watch, never actually met anybody else who wears one which shows they are for the more selective of us

  • I'm glad that you have grasped this point ... about the selectivity yes, I wanted it to be a distinctive sign, which might be represent myself, but not many people understand about watches, perhaps only 5-10% of the population :D ; About the gift...yes again, I asked this watch just for its history (and of course because I liked), hope to keep it as long as possible and pass it to my son a day. Obviously at the price of a significant economic effort for my parents, but I am grateful. Good Bye.

  • Fantastic watch and great video... but the music makes it sound like an 80's horror movie, like something is about to jump out of the closet and attack you. Haha.

  • Hi GRAFHC, yes, the aim was to select a music that had the same "pathos" of the watch..., probably i exaggerated a bit :) ... I am sorry that you can not see the back where are the words: "flight -qualified by NASA ...etc. " Bye.

  • awesome watch

  • I confirm you, thanks for comment.
