the original xbox is a great system! Your Xbox is modded..why?...Your a Sega fan. You can pick a lot of great Sega games for the first Xbox like: Panzer dragoon, shenmue 2, otogi, gun valkyrie and jet set radio.

High Definition is 1920x1080pixels. The XBox does not support this resolution. The highest the system supports is 720x480, although I keep it at 640x480 which for a display on a CRT Television is very nice indeed. Especially since the XBMC has been so well made and includes image filters to reduce the flicker you'd normally get with high resolutions. Great video by the way
@nicholasthetaylor Technically 1280x720 (720p) is "high definition" and the XBOX can do both 720p and 1080i with component cables. Not many games supported it but there were a few HD capable games. Plus not many people actually had the component cables since they were harder to find at the time.
@MN12BIRD i love it with component. looks great! vids are nice on it and the interface looks nice and crispy at 720p and it runs quite fine at that resolution
but the games like halo 2 looked on it so great. my is blue one with green leds 120gb hardrive xbox 360 menu mod dvd player and plays games from hardrive has wifi.

Each of those controller ports on the front of an XBox is essentially a USB port, except they changed the shape of the plug. I wonder if this means that one of those Playstation pad to USB port converters might work on it. It would probably need a driver, but I dunno. It might work, cos I don't think it needed drivers in windows other than the standard ones

Do you mean that you used some VGA or HD connector on the XBox, and that the system somehow detected the additional resolution and made them available? If so, then this is a sweet find!

@ach11les Actually I only went through one other one and nothing happend to it I just ended up selling it and getting this one later. I've been lucky with these no problems with either one.
@ZELDAandMARIOfan I modded mine. You need an action replay cartridge, one of three games (goldeneye, Syphon Filter, or another that I can't remember) Then you download a savefile off the net. There are really good tutorials if you google them. Best to have a remote control too cos the media centre works really well with it. Have fun!
do you have your updated now with some video plugins? i find youtube can work well.. runs 480p on mine! (yes i know it can upscale via progressive to 1080p)
and the HiDef i cant play is H.264 high def. i didnt get a bigger hard drive.. works mine off the network...

Jake, you should get your hands on a 360 and Forza 2 or NFS Shift or Burnout. 360s are better than that crapbox unmodded. Even if you had it modded, a 360 is FAR better
I already have NFS Shift on my PC and I have no intention on getting a 360 or PS3 but if I was it would be a PS3 just for GT5 as I've always played the GT series.
I software modded mine. My internet connect isn't good for online.
The beauty is that once you have the .iso file for the mod you can use that iso again to mod it again. I had a WD 250GB in mine then I used a 250GB Maxtor, with the same iso file which had xboxhdm on it.
So they can even change the startup screen, that's not surprising. A family member has a modded XBOX and they can change the colour of the green LED's on the unit, can you do that with yours? Did you replace the casing yourself? That's the only good thing about the XBOX, the fact that you can mod it. Do you play emulated games on your XBOX?
@ThisIs2009 Compare games that were released on both consoles. They came out late on the XBox, but they were always vastly improved when they eventually came out. Grand Theft Auto Vice City is even more awesome on XBox
@thevideoguy666 Nah, it was really good when you compare the spec to the PS2 and especially since Windows isn't hogging the resources as is the case with most PCs. You can get some really good conversions of PS2 games eg. the Grand Theft Autos have a smooth framerate and enhanced graphic effects. Just a shame that the unit itself is so huge. Its a great start though

softmodding a xbox is i think better. i can change skins, change led light color etc. also i can turn up the fan speed which i like because it cools the system a little better.

The only Xbox game i remember playing back in 2002 or whenever was Halo. I liked the system since a friend of mine had it. I have never owned a Xbox or 360. Probably never will purchase a 360.

xbox sucked balls, except for halo and some little gems here and there, but for the most part, it was just a pc in a big box. the 360 pwns all though!
The OG Xbox, in my opinion, was, and still is, such an awesome console! It is essentially the DC 2, and is of the same standards in terms of quality of hardware, innovation, features (network standard), and in some cases, games. Easily one of the best consoles.
I always considered the GC to be the DC2. 4 controller ports, specialized optical discs that nothing else in the industry really used, held more than a CD but not up to DVD. Good anti-aliasing. Nice, fun, small compact system that played games, but not movies. Sega moved almost all their games over to the NGC including the Sonic Series. Even Sega and Nintendo (and Namco) teamed up using NGC hardware to build arcade boards.
It shares similar, strong, positive characteristics such extremely high-quality, first party games, being very well built, unique, original, and driving the concept of pure entertainment and fun centering video games. The Xbox 360, in my opinion, was made white OG to tribute the DC, and it, too sports a native VGA output, like the DC.

Is the first step in moding, putting the flash fxp on xbox? And can that be done using the memory device as well. because everytime i try to use i get a message that says. it can't be read and everything on it will be erased and when I put the usb drive back in my computer it always says i have to formate it and erases the usb again. what i am i doing wrong?
I dunno man I've never actually done a soft mod myself. My First XBOX came with the soft mod and they one I have now has a mod chip in it. I only have a basic idea of whats involved and thats about it.
Yes you can people have gone as far as to de-solder the CPU from the motherboard and solder on a faster Pentium III! Plus obviously you can throw in a bigger PC hard drive as I did mines 320GB in there!
LOL yes you need a small custom variant of Linux for this purpose not a full blown PC OS! Linux can mean one of a million things. You also need an adapter that converts the memory card slot in the controller to USB. Microsoft sold these for Phantasy Star Online IIRC. You will also need one of a few real copies of a certain version of a game. These few games have a security hole in them that allows the Linux based program to be run off the USB.

XBox Media Center(XBMC) is free to download. You need an IDE HD that can be locked (Mostly any IDE HDD can) but to soft mod the XBOX you need some special hardware and software. I would find someone who can do that part of it for you. Just bring him the drive and you shouldn't have to may more than $50 to get a soft mod done. To transfer files to the XBOX I use an FTP program. Basically you find the XBOX on your network and transfer files from the PC to the XBOX or the other way around.

You can but it sucks. BBC Canada plays them here. They are edited, many parts taken out for time. They take out allot of the music too. Think about all the music in a Top Gear episode, every clip usually has multiple parts of songs in the background. Its so strange without the music! I can't stand watching it on TV over here. I download all the episodes when they come out (BTW Season 11 just started!) but finalgear(dot)com (can't type websites on YouTube) is all you need.
I've got a softmodded 160GB v1.6 Xbox, i stored bout 25 of my favorite games, the Xbox Media Center is awesome....much like the Windows Media Center. I thought it was great downloading AVI files, burning to DVD (my Xbox wont' read CD-R, just DVD-R) and watching 'em as if they were on the computer, GREAT system for emulation (the Killer Instinct ports are ARCADE perfect!)....i wouldn't get rid of my Xbox for NOTHING....and....what i love most..DvdX Region Free! No Regional coding on movies!!
I don't even bother burning video to any format. Why waste disks? It can stream anything thats on the PC over the network. Just share the folders or drives on your PC and the XBOX seems em.
Interestign story behind that too when windows licensed Windows CE for use on dreamcast as a joke who ever licensed it had that prototype concept drawn up as a picture labelled 'dreacast beater as a joke' and sent it to the guy at sega not long after some other guy at MS saw the prototype and put in plans to make a video game console just not as pretty as the original prototype

A bit of both. 1: I was 8-9 when I got it and 2: My parents were kinda cheap. Beforehand I pretty much played games at friends houses. Especially on THE N64!!!!!!!!

softmodding a xbox is i think better. i can change skins, change led light color etc. also i can turn up the fan speed which i like because it cools the system a little better.

The only Xbox game i remember playing back in 2002 or whenever was Halo. I liked the system since a friend of mine had it. I have never owned a Xbox or 360. Probably never will purchase a 360.

My first console was the PlayStation, but I wouldn't even call that 15 year old masterpiece RETRO! Geez... how old are you anyway, kid? 4? The OG Xbox, in my opinion, was, and still is, such an awesome console! It is essentially the DC 2, and is of the same standards in terms of quality of hardware, innovation, features (network standard), and in some cases, games. Easily one of the best consoles.

I always considered the GC to be the DC2. 4 controller ports, specialized optical discs that nothing else in the industry really used, held more than a CD but not up to DVD. Good anti-aliasing. Nice, fun, small compact system that played games, but not movies. Sega moved almost all their games over to the NGC including the Sonic Series. Even Sega and Nintendo (and Namco) teamed up using NGC hardware to build arcade boards.

It shares similar, strong, positive characteristics such extremely high-quality, first party games, being very well built, unique, original, and driving the concept of pure entertainment and fun centering video games. The Xbox 360, in my opinion, was made white OG to tribute the DC, and it, too sports a native VGA output, like the DC.

Is the first step in moding, putting the flash fxp on xbox? And can that be done using the memory device as well. because everytime i try to use i get a message that says. it can't be read and everything on it will be erased and when I put the usb drive back in my computer it always says i have to formate it and erases the usb again. what i am i doing wrong?

I dunno man I've never actually done a soft mod myself. My First XBOX came with the soft mod and they one I have now has a mod chip in it. I only have a basic idea of whats involved and thats about it.

Yes you can people have gone as far as to de-solder the CPU from the motherboard and solder on a faster Pentium III! Plus obviously you can throw in a bigger PC hard drive as I did mines 320GB in there!

LOL yes you need a small custom variant of Linux for this purpose not a full blown PC OS! Linux can mean one of a million things. You also need an adapter that converts the memory card slot in the controller to USB. Microsoft sold these for Phantasy Star Online IIRC. You will also need one of a few real copies of a certain version of a game. These few games have a security hole in them that allows the Linux based program to be run off the USB.

hi (again) i am thinkin of buying an origional xbox to do the same thing, and i was wondering if it is easy to change the hardrive if you have the right one, also do the hardrives or the actual consoles have usb ports to transfer files or would i have to buy a caddy or something like that. and the program you use is it free to download?

XBox Media Center(XBMC) is free to download. You need an IDE HD that can be locked (Mostly any IDE HDD can) but to soft mod the XBOX you need some special hardware and software. I would find someone who can do that part of it for you. Just bring him the drive and you shouldn't have to may more than $50 to get a soft mod done. To transfer files to the XBOX I use an FTP program. Basically you find the XBOX on your network and transfer files from the PC to the XBOX or the other way around.

You can but it sucks. BBC Canada plays them here. They are edited, many parts taken out for time. They take out allot of the music too. Think about all the music in a Top Gear episode, every clip usually has multiple parts of songs in the background. Its so strange without the music! I can't stand watching it on TV over here. I download all the episodes when they come out (BTW Season 11 just started!) but finalgear(dot)com (can't type websites on YouTube) is all you need.

I've got a softmodded 160GB v1.6 Xbox, i stored bout 25 of my favorite games, the Xbox Media Center is awesome....much like the Windows Media Center. I thought it was great downloading AVI files, burning to DVD (my Xbox wont' read CD-R, just DVD-R) and watching 'em as if they were on the computer, GREAT system for emulation (the Killer Instinct ports are ARCADE perfect!)....i wouldn't get rid of my Xbox for NOTHING....and....what i love most..DvdX Region Free! No Regional coding on movies!!

I don't even bother burning video to any format. Why waste disks? It can stream anything thats on the PC over the network. Just share the folders or drives on your PC and the XBOX seems em.

Interestign story behind that too when windows licensed Windows CE for use on dreamcast as a joke who ever licensed it had that prototype concept drawn up as a picture labelled 'dreacast beater as a joke' and sent it to the guy at sega not long after some other guy at MS saw the prototype and put in plans to make a video game console just not as pretty as the original prototype
