@manthevan You're 100% right that he's not as dynamic anymore, but a lot that is because he using much more gain today, the tone is a lot more compressed and less vintage sounding.
The post-accident sloppiness was mostly on Odyssey and parts of Eclipse. After that his picking started to clean up greatly. What he did lose permanently after the accident though was that extremely fast improv ability and ease of phrasing, which peaked on Trilogy.
YOU ARE WRONG.he just uses different types of distortion thats why.He would use overdrive till 87,then used wah for solos in Odyssey how you expect him to sound?(I dont offend you bro)
mark boals is yngwie's best vocalist who can really deliver high note even in live concert.Goran Edman was replaced during the Fire and Ice tour because he cannot hit high notes.
Goran could reach high notes,in live too, check malmsteen-no mercy upload on youtube. But He could not pronounce -s due to his front teeth,as you can hear in Eclipse
Shit nice video! Where tf did all those chops go? I mean the three first albums were pure shred and now all i hear is sloppy playing! Maybe the accident he had shortly after the trilogy album release caused a deterioration in his playing. IMHO of course. He once was a true inspiration and jawdropping player but those days are gone! However i ll always admire the great early yngwie without the boasting bullshit!
Yes, it's not the same thing as it uset to be. But after the accident he still recorded some GREAT albums (Odyssey, Fire and Ice, Eclipse, 7th sign, Facing the animal). It must be very hard to remain at the top for so many years. I saw him live last year and he still has something, a great energy when he plays. Respect
His playing HAS gotten better. His arpeggios on "Demon Driver" and "Rising Force" are examples of how good he's gotten after his first albums. By all means, listen to what you want, but I try to play his stuff and believe me; he's still a jawdropping player!
yeah andy, i've never seen yngwie live(YET) but extreme volume has been yngwie's live trademark...everyone says yngwie's shows are TOO LOUD! can't wait to hear it myself!
another fantastic yngwie performance! what a time! reagan in office, family ties on t.v., my father flying b-52's, GI Joe, transformers, and thundercats, playing with my buddies and snot nosed little brother in the snow in michigan, and the top rock gun is Yngwie Malmsteen!
Mark Boals was killer as well on vocals ..Trilogy ruled! (Queen is in love! KILLER!) Glad Yngwie trimmed down and mellowed on the drinking, look at Michael Schenker....man hes bloated...
beautifully video

mark sounded great on trilogy and alchemy. but i thought his voice was crap on wteaw
yngwieisking 4 years ago
His voice wasn't crap. It was just too low in the mix. For most peoples tastes anyway. It didn't bother me much...
DannyBoy777 4 years ago
It was just a bad mix. I thought WTEAW was a much better album than Alchemy.

@yngwieisking : That was the piss poor mix.
