  • This is a great video

  • imagine when you bent it, it fell into the water.

    LOOL

  • Amazing

  • you know, if you anneal that saw blade it would be a lot easier to work with (I think)

  • who did step on my bacon these are the questions

  • can you make me one? i can buy it from you

  • just throw the sawblade at them

  • @ pyromaniac

You obviously are ignorant of knife making and the different processes. Many of the highest quality knives are cut. Forging is the older process but still widely used. A combiniation of the 2 processes is often used as well. No matter how it was made, all good knives are hardened and tempered after the unsharpened blade is complete.

  • NICE i made one like this and killed three people lol jk naa i just used it too gut a fish i killed

  • In general, grinders put too much heat into the steel, not good, but,at least you've made a knife you can use.I would not do this myself.

  • piece of shit, any idiot knows that knives are generally forged

  • who stepped on my bacon?

  • contour was right.

  • hahahahaha bacon

  • Here is a tip. You can get a rid of rust easily with vinegar. Leave it in for two days and it will have no rust at all.

  • I stepped on the bacon.

  • can i use a bench grinder

  • wat if u used a hand saw blade and used a dremeltool?

  • @scott80100 also what the fuck in the first comment why are you rapping??

  • @scott80100 really?? your gonna rape me?? how old are you, might i ask,

  • I wish I could subscribe to you twice man, You are awesome, keep makin videos, and stay sharp (< bad pun intended :)

  • i bet i know what you did before you made this video. you pooped

  • 5:19 looks like a bad ass hunting knife

  • i love the sign off line

  • If i were you i would have cleaned the rust off the top while you were usin the grinder

  • @coldlover500 me and my dad have some old saw mill blades and they work really well as knifes cuz they have all ready been temperd and all that stuff and the hold an edge really well

  • @xcalibur324 you could always anneal it to soften (heat up to till its no longer magnetic and then cool very slowly) until its soft to work with, then once the blade is formed harden, same heating as before but cool rapidly... and then temper by heating to a lower temp... that would make life a bit easier

  • one of lifes great questions, "who stepped on my bacon"?

  • or you can buy a knife for like $10

  • does it hold an edge

  • you dont have to cut the end off a lot of knives have secondary blades for tighter or other purposes

  • First comment XD great vid thanks good job

  • i use a old file to make the blade

  • sorry bud , NEWB . Keep at it though ...

  • wouldnt a saw blade be a little weak?

  • What is the best way to sharpen the knife if you do not have any power tools?

  • @AD4MZ you would need a metal file and a lot of time (oh and a leather belt ). so you would file it down to a fine edge then put it in the belt and drag left and right that will sharpen it

  • brittle and solid?

  • sup, hey u think a grinder could take a quarter inch steel bar?

  • hmmm is there any pieces of metal that i can use and get at a store for a low price

  • how long is it ?

  • :O where do I get one of those things you used to file it at first? I usually use a file to make my knives and it takes forever that thing would make it so much easier

  • cant u make one out of a soda can?

  • at 0:23 you said the steel was brittle and solid how does that work

  • HAHAHA WHO STEPPED ON MY BACON?!

  • NICE!

  • WHO STEPED ON MY BACON!!?

  • Great video. I've learned a lot from your videos and I'm in the process of making my own knife.

I've also decided to keep my bacon off the floor so accidents don't happen.

  • are you on like a boat

  • ya, like for sure

  • lol who stepped on my bacon

  • @yankovic1234 i know right- im wondering why his bacon is on the floor!

  • @JammerJawz why dont you use a cut off wheel?

  • @JammerJawz thats cool have u ever made one out of wood ijust did having a little trouble sharping it tho

  • @JammerJawz tiger paws work well

  • @yankovic1234 i thought hes on a barge

  • @yankovic1234 like totally like

  • GHETTO!

  • DONT GRIND WITH THE SIDE OF THE GRINDER!!! you never know if it gets to thin and flies of! also, use gloves

  • The metal I used is too hard, it would take forever!

  • @JammerJawz soften it. you can use your oven if you dont have a forge.

  • @JammerJawz i can use wood instead of string right?

  • One more comment. When I cut a knife blank out of a saw blade that way, I use an angle grinder also, and cut into the steel on one side, then I turn if over and take a look at it. If I cut it deep enough, I can see the outline of the cut on the other side, just as if I had drawn it, and I cut it on the other side with the grinder. It breaks off easily, usually with a couple of taps from a hammer. Nice knives you make. I make them too, but not good enough yet to sell.

  • Nice video. I like your work bench. It's plenty long enough, but seems to be a bit too narrow to me. LOL. When you first cut your knife out, try turning the clamp upside down. It'll be much more out of your way. If you put the angle grinder itself in a vise to shape the knife, you can see better what you are doing. A belt sander, mounted upside down in a vise works great with 80 grit to shape knife. 120, or 240 grit to finish. Clean down to mirror steel, or use gun blue to finish.

  • hes on a boat

  • is it bad to use power tools because the metal will heat up, or does it not matter at all because you will be heat treating it anyways.????i honestly do not have the patience to do it completely by hand, i just want to get the basic form with a grinder.

  • thing is im making it from my grandpas 60yr old file so i only have one shot

  • thats already already looking pretty good

  • yea use a file

  • yes all you need is a hack saw and a file to sharpen it

  • @jessin111 if you need an angle grinder or any other hardware go to ACE hardware cheap and high qualty items. and people actually know how to help you

  • nice one , keepem coming

  • i think the temper would be too brittle

maybe if you re tempered the edge with a acetylene torch and a hammer you'd have a nice one =]

  • nice man nice

  • why? because he could pull a macguyver?

  • uh, nevermind

  • you are a fool for dissing this guy, he has knowledge and motivation. perhaps you'd learn more by listening instead of talking hotshot. your regional bias is downright ignorant.

  • very nice finished product!

personally i use welding steel you can buy at any hardware store, that stuff your using seems too brittle isnt it?

  • Hmmmm? Bowie Tanto? ;D Nice job man..

  • what temp should i shoot for and how long should it stay there? will it affect the work ive done or will there just be scale to clean off?

  • I just made my first knife. used a file. it turned out good but was wondering if i need to retemper so it wont be so hard. ideas?

  • You may want to "anneal" the blade which will soften it slightly. It is best to do this before you shape the blade so it will be easier to shape your blade in the softened state. The way you can anneal the blade or file is to heat it until it is red hot and then bury it in sand or ash and let it cool down overnight. To heat the metal you will need a kiln or a torch. Hope this helps and congrats on the knife! Send or post pics or videos!

  • Genius! knives are good for survival and protection ETC(THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

  • u live on a house boat?

  • I was working on a boat that was docked in New Orleans at the time. Thanks for watching my videos.

  • I just cut all the way through with a very thin (1mm) disk.

  • lol who said "who stepped on my baby"

  • LOL...

  • how much would one of those angle grinders be??

  • wow guy almost went def watchin this lol

  • IM ON A BOAT

    IM ON A BOAT

  • who step on my bacon

  • you know, a hacksaw would be better and safer to cut the metal with. I'm not sure but I think a wet brick might work to sharpen the blade, but probably not.

  • it would take ages to cut through all that metal with a hacksaw

  • it does as long as you put water on little crumbles on it and smoothly w/ a little presure

  • how large is the blade is it a 12" or larger ?

  • The steel is from an old sawmill blade, it is already hardened. When grinding on this steel you should be careful, if you grind in one spot too long the steel will get too hot and loose some of its hardness. Hope this info helps.

  • it would be funny if all those things he has at the edge would fall on a car.

  • lmao at 0:04 he said who stepped on my bacon

  • not to bad. i wasnt expecting the grinder to be so loud tho lol. again nice blade.

  • haha 2:15 *The pattern includes the sharpening*
