@guitarboy1234 Check out my tutorial. There i show how you do the sidechain compression and how you mute the kick without doing anything with the sidechaining.
hey dude. just come to say your tutorials are really really helpful. Wanted to thank you. I use FL studio intending to create house music, I'm really just a beginner but your tuts are great, thank you.
Hello:) i have been using fl studio for about 2 and a half month now, and i got this problem that i can only make 1 noise at a time! a bit hard to explain but i will try. i cant make several type of noises fit in one place of a song, is there a tutorial on youtube or something how you do that? all i manage to do is a bassline and a kick/clap line:S please help!:)

@OlssoNTuneZ It depends on what you want to do - peak controller is good for stronger beat controlled effects. This is a fine tuning mastering effect - the uses compression. They are really unrelated in the way you implement them - it's like comparing apples to oranges.
Ok, nice one... I use a different aproach: Insert a Peak controller on the kick-channel, de-mute it (so you hear the kick). Then insert a compressor on the 3xOsc channel. Link (r-click > link to controller) the Treshhold-knob of the compressor to the (internal) controller peak+lfo (provided by the peak controller). Fiddle with the 'base' and 'vol' knobs of the peak controller to get the right 'pump' going. voila, a ducking sidechain! This way you have more precise control on everything.
HEy I am starting to side chainnig and I am really noticing a great difference in my tunes. EVEN if I let the chainEMPTY with no FX, just connected to an indepedent channel/VST synth, there is a huge improvement!!
Since there's a two ms delay when utilizing the fruity limiter, should you delay the sidechain source two ms to match? What I mean is, when i use PDC, everything but the source of the sidechain (kick) is delayed two ms, so the kick is slightly off with the hit of the snare for example. So - should I delay the kick the two ms, leave it as it is, or find a new sidechain compressor? Hope I was clear enough, thanks.
@solls2 2 ms is insignificant - unless you can audibly detect a "major" issue don't worry about it. PDC is something that should be done by the host application. I very rarely had any need to manually adjust it myself. You have an option to use delay compensation when you output your audio too - so even the insignificant timings are corrected.
@ste1438 i hate that 2 ms delay man I wish there was a way to just get around it because I like limiter but Im currently looking for a new SC option that does not involve delay.
I'd like to say that side-chaining should not be used to prevent clipping. Turn the master volume down to prevent clipping, or use the limiter as a master effect. Side-chaining instead should be used as a noticeable effect in music to create a pumping effect.
@Trancefreak12 A limiter uses a side-chain itself. There are also several ways to prevent clipping and I know a lot of people that hate using limiters.
@ste1438 There are no rights are wrongs too, by the way. The only thing that matters is the result you get in the end. A bass kick side chain is very standard though. It allows you to get much high volume on the bass which is often a problem in relation to the kick. There is a loudness war and turning down the Master volume would be not the ideal solution for most, but again whatever floats your boat. here is no right or wrong.
@ste1438 I am really curious about how this works, it seems like something magical. I was looking around at the related videos but I didn't want my bass to be something used for Techno/Trance. Thanks a lot because this was exactly what I was FREAKING looking for! ( I almost said the F bomb right there)

it seems like when I make songs on FL they are quieter than MP3 files that you'd normally buy.. if I turn up the master volume then the peak gets orange and yellow. So is there any way around this
@BrnoutJerzey try using A Parametric EQ (eqaulize the frequecies ) - Followed by the Mutli-band compressor or Maximus (try mastering Presets) in the Master track. Make sure you have a good stereo balanced. spread. The problem is that Professional MP3 file are studio Mastered by engineers. It's hard to match that - A good Mastered song can be Lower in decibels but still sound Louder.
@ste1438 If you must have studio quality - contact a recoding studio with a decent reputation and get a your music studio mastered by an engineer. Most Professional; artists rely on Studio Pros for mastering. Studio Mastering is really affordable these days too.
@kmt112991 It used to be pretty expensive, but new software and powerful PC's have made it much more affordable then ever before. The cost depends - there are cheap generic solutions that start at $10/song (but you need to do most of the work) to more involved mastering services that cost thousands. Whatever it may be you can probably find something to fit your budget.
@BrnoutJerzey i have the same problem but what i do is i would raise up the master volume in FL to where the orange hits in the middle and doesnt reach all the way to the end. and listen to it in FL and adjust it to how you like.
if you want to download the full 9 fl studio samples and loops library and xref vst plugins besides the two with their expansions nexus Find me in Taringa as LastEver find much material there to start producing all in direct download
when i right click to route the 3xosc to the kick , it only gives me the first option (rout to this track only), it doesnt give me the sidechain to this track options.
@CurkJ@CurkJ make sure the 3xosc is not routing over to the master track if you did not use "side chain to this track only". Select the 3xosc and turn off the link on the Master track.
when your playing ur oscilator and drum patern the sound it produces is different than mine .. mine sounds like the 3x osc is playing as a longer note and there in no echo? reason for that?
Whoa, i'd been sidechaining a lot weirder :D i used peak controller and put it as a controller to the volume of the track i wanted to sidechain. Mine sounds a lot like deadmau5 :P
This is side-chain compression, for mastering levels. When you use the peak controller you are creating an fx side-chain. I could side chain to the panning or pitch if I wanted to. The effect of putting a peak controller on a volume knob, or the gain on a compressor is a pumping effect. Peak control off/on for a gating effect. That is common, not weird at all. many people don't seem to realize that there are many different kinds of side chain effects.
Alright this sounds stupid but I got FL 9 and I did exactly what you did and it didn't do any difference at all...and I also have only two options instead of 3 when I right click where you click...I don't have the "side chain to this track only" option... so I select "sidechain to this track" and nothing happens... peaking out like before=\ I even tried a really intense bassline and kick thinking that i just didn't hear it but nothing really changed=(
@gaserg Sorry about the late response - You need to mute the output of the 3xosc to the master track, if you don't use side chain to this track only. The option I chose does that automatically. Side chain to this track only was an update - if your registered get the update.

Tough I used a limiter in the effect channel of the PAD sound.
You think you can make a tutorial to make a real hardstyle bass/kick-combo? you know that WROOM sound just after the kick?
I know a lot of people keeps it a secret and just say "try to add effects etcetc on the kick".
So im not saying you should give us exact numbers, just explain the FX and what each knob do, push us in the right direction! =)
