  • how can i make a nice pumping effect without a kick so its just the pumping?

  • @guitarboy1234 Use the peak controller.

  • @guitarboy1234 Check out my tutorial. There i show how you do the sidechain compression and how you mute the kick without doing anything with the sidechaining.

  • hey dude. just come to say your tutorials are really really helpful. Wanted to thank you. I use FL studio intending to create house music, I'm really just a beginner but your tuts are great, thank you.

  • it wont allow me to click on fx and sidechain ?: (

  • i was not able to get this nice sound in my 3x Ocs

  • DUDE! THANKS A LOT!

  • I wish you would do it slower!!!

  • @alexstudiozzl Не Спам ...

  • @tpalacio1979 me neither O_o

  • -Add the kick to an avaivable Mixer track and then add Gross Beat, and you will find "Sidechain" already there. And its done.

  • Can u apply this to hip hop n rap tracks

  • is this way better to use then to use peak controller?

  • @OlssoNTuneZ It depends on what you want to do - peak controller is good for stronger beat controlled effects. This is a fine tuning mastering effect - the uses compression. They are really unrelated in the way you implement them - it's like comparing apples to oranges.

  • HEy I am starting to side chainnig and I am really noticing a great difference in my tunes. EVEN if I let the chainEMPTY with no FX, just connected to an indepedent channel/VST synth, there is a huge improvement!!

  • Please check out my newest tracks on soundcloud

    soundcloud(dot) com/cali-ghost

    thanks for the support

  • Since there's a two ms delay when utilizing the fruity limiter, should you delay the sidechain source two ms to match? What I mean is, when i use PDC, everything but the source of the sidechain (kick) is delayed two ms, so the kick is slightly off with the hit of the snare for example. So - should I delay the kick the two ms, leave it as it is, or find a new sidechain compressor? Hope I was clear enough, thanks.

  • @solls2 2 ms is insignificant - unless you can audibly detect a "major" issue don't worry about it. PDC is something that should be done by the host application. I very rarely had any need to manually adjust it myself. You have an option to use delay compensation when you output your audio too - so even the insignificant timings are corrected.

  • @ste1438 i hate that 2 ms delay man I wish there was a way to just get around it because I like limiter but Im currently looking for a new SC option that does not involve delay.

  • I'd like to say that side-chaining should not be used to prevent clipping. Turn the master volume down to prevent clipping, or use the limiter as a master effect. Side-chaining instead should be used as a noticeable effect in music to create a pumping effect.

  • @Trancefreak12 A limiter uses a side-chain itself. There are also several ways to prevent clipping and I know a lot of people that hate using limiters.

  • @ste1438 There are no rights are wrongs too, by the way. The only thing that matters is the result you get in the end. A bass kick side chain is very standard though. It allows you to get much high volume on the bass which is often a problem in relation to the kick. There is a loudness war and turning down the Master volume would be not the ideal solution for most, but again whatever floats your boat. here is no right or wrong.

  • hey ste1438

could you plz tell from where did u learn this...

did anyone thought u or you figured it out on your own

  • @aakash290890 Bob Katz

  • @ste1438 I am really curious about how this works, it seems like something magical. I was looking around at the related videos but I didn't want my bass to be something used for Techno/Trance. Thanks a lot because this was exactly what I was FREAKING looking for! ( I almost said the F bomb right there)

  • mesa no has a sidechain button D: new pc with fl 9 died and stuck with fl 8

    good tutorial though

  • I play with fl8

  • finally a good tutorial !!!!!!!!!!

  • in pro tools sidechain watch?v=LviBAYi5EkU

  • it seems like when I make songs on FL they are quieter than MP3 files that you'd normally buy.. if I turn up the master volume then the peak gets orange and yellow. So is there any way around this

  • @BrnoutJerzey try using A Parametric EQ (eqaulize the frequecies ) - Followed by the Mutli-band compressor or Maximus (try mastering Presets) in the Master track. Make sure you have a good stereo balanced. spread. The problem is that Professional MP3 file are studio Mastered by engineers. It's hard to match that - A good Mastered song can be Lower in decibels but still sound Louder.

  • @ste1438 If you must have studio quality - contact a recoding studio with a decent reputation and get a your music studio mastered by an engineer. Most Professional; artists rely on Studio Pros for mastering. Studio Mastering is really affordable these days too.

  • @ste1438 not like im gonna be releasing platinums anytime soon, but can you give me a range of how much studio mastering would cost?

  • @kmt112991 It used to be pretty expensive, but new software and powerful PC's have made it much more affordable then ever before. The cost depends - there are cheap generic solutions that start at $10/song (but you need to do most of the work) to more involved mastering services that cost thousands. Whatever it may be you can probably find something to fit your budget.

  • @kmt112991 Use Ozone 3... I SWEAR this will fix what you are talking about. It makes you sound PRO. <3

  • @ste1438

thanks! ill do some reading up and try it

  • @BrnoutJerzey i have the same problem but what i do is i would raise up the master volume in FL to where the orange hits in the middle and doesnt reach all the way to the end. and listen to it in FL and adjust it to how you like.

  • you just sounds like microsoft sam:)

  • @ 3:00 when you right click you get 3 options, and i get only "route to this track only"

    whan should i do?

  • @PitBullSerbian "To this track only" is the best option anyway. With the other option you need to manually turn off the Master track.

  • Ehhh, hardstyle kick... U might know alot about using Fl, but that is not a hardstyle kick :b

  • @LethalInjectionMedia Thre is no exact definition for a Hardstyle Kick - it's arbitrary.

  • @ste1438 Oh yeah :b 10794 views, and your the first to say that.

  • @LethalInjectionMedia, you sure know alot for somebody watching tutorials.

  • @floridachris123 Turn off the metronome on the recording options panel.

  • when i right click to route the 3xosc to the kick , it only gives me the first option (rout to this track only), it doesnt give me the sidechain to this track options.

    Any help??

  • yo ste1438

i have fl studio 8 xxl producer..

but when i press right click to select sidechain to this track

i only can click on ' Route to this track only '

why is this do you know that?

  • okay this makes no sense.. i do exactly what the video says.. and i hear both the kick and bass

  • @CurkJ @CurkJ make sure the 3xosc is not routing over to the master track if you did not use "side chain to this track only". Select the 3xosc and turn off the link on the Master track.

  • ahh okay will do

  • h o l y....i wish i knew as much as u

  • when your playing ur oscilator and drum patern the sound it produces is different than mine .. mine sounds like the 3x osc is playing as a longer note and there in no echo? reason for that?

  • @Fatshit909 In the beginning of the video I turned the 3x osc into a short hit.

  • also use fast dist @ effects

  • good stuff

  • lol i like how you put a giant "THE END" at the end of the vid

  • wow man i've been trying to figure this one out for a while been having problems with distortion when i layer channels...thanks for the tutorial vid!

  • Brillant!!

So simple yet so effective, Much Respect

  • Whoa, i'd been sidechaining a lot weirder :D i used peak controller and put it as a controller to the volume of the track i wanted to sidechain. Mine sounds a lot like deadmau5 :P

  • This is side-chain compression, for mastering levels. When you use the peak controller you are creating an fx side-chain. I could side chain to the panning or pitch if I wanted to. The effect of putting a peak controller on a volume knob, or the gain on a compressor is a pumping effect. Peak control off/on for a gating effect. That is common, not weird at all. many people don't seem to realize that there are many different kinds of side chain effects.

  • megatrance former,. i'm ur biggest fan i miss your ryu and guile themes, i almost cried when u closed ur account ='"(

  • this is nice man...thxz :)

  • Thanks for the help!

Posted a vid response with the things you learned me. :D

Tough I used a limiter in the effect channel of the PAD sound.

You think you can make a tutorial to make a real hardstyle bass/kick-combo? you know that WROOM sound just after the kick?

I know a lot of people keeps it a secret and just say "try to add effects etcetc on the kick".

So im not saying you should give us exact numbers, just explain the FX and what each knob do, push us in the right direction! =)

    thanks

  • YOU NEED FL STUDIO 9

    -----------------------------------------

    for FL 8 and under....

goto file, 'new from template' -->

    then to 'utility' -->

    select 'side chaining'

after that it comes with instructions and you can follow this video for the most part

  • @i3l1nd

I have FL STUDIO 9! Like I said below.

  • Alright this sounds stupid but I got FL 9 and I did exactly what you did and it didn't do any difference at all...and I also have only two options instead of 3 when I right click where you click...I don't have the "side chain to this track only" option... so I select "sidechain to this track" and nothing happens... peaking out like before=\ I even tried a really intense bassline and kick thinking that i just didn't hear it but nothing really changed=(

  • @gaserg Sorry about the late response - You need to mute the output of the 3xosc to the master track, if you don't use side chain to this track only. The option I chose does that automatically. Side chain to this track only was an update - if your registered get the update.

  • man, i feel like bashing my head against the desk. thanks!

  • I don't have the "sidechain to this track" option in a menu when I click options. I only have the "route to this track only" option=( And I'm using fl studio 8 producer edition. What should I do? Anyy suggestions?

    =\

  • You need FL Studio 9.

  • though so. well that's not a problem. Thanks man!

  • is it more effective to use the fruity peak controller to control the bass volume or does it not really matter

  • Many people don't think you should use the peak controller for something like this anymore. I don't think it matters, as long as you know how to set it up right. The peak controller can give you a lot more creative possibilities too.

  • thanks

  • wait, if this is side chaining, then what is the effect called when an instrument fades in and out withe the kick or bass drum?

  • it's a side chain too - there are a lot of different kinds of side chains. This is kick-bass side chain. When ever you control something with the output of something else it's a side chain.

  • ur a fuckin god keep it up

your tutorials help so dam much

can u show us how to make one of those nu style hardstyle basses kinda like the noisecontrollers and a screech like one from pavos communicate? thx a ton!

  • running a sgna thrugh a compressor to make th compresor react to that signal , its usually used to make room for the kickdrum , if youre talking about something else then i apologise for calling you crazy.

  • thank you SO much.

  • bluaaaaa!! sidechain ruins everything

don't do it if you really want an excellent mastering.

    Great producers don't use it

  • are you crazy , everyone use sidechaining

  • what?? don't say anymore please

  • great

  • do you have Fl studio 9 now?

  • i was with u till 3:10. can u only right click and get those options with fl 9?

  • no man they're also in fl8 but i just got 9 and it have more vst and it's better

  • Yes - you can do it in 8 too. The side chaining is improved in version 9 though.

  • Great video again ste. Keep it up!
