This piece of music reminds me of my days at school way back in the 80's when we played "Anouman" in our school band... Django's music was like revelation!
I love this song! Django ran the gamut... first 20's Jazz, then Swing, then Bop, finally Cool. I have close to 600 sides and don't know which set (phase? era?) I would recommend. I think I've got them all, then something new (at least new to me) turns up, like the Radio set with the ATC big band and the Ellington 1946 live cuts. Amazing guitarist, and, I still maintain, the greatest ever to draw breath.
It was also said in Dregni's book that it may have been Django's phonetic spelling of "A New Man" since he had changed so much in those last few years.
It comes from (A new man), but being alliterate its written by sound lol hope that answers your question. Some tend to think that he wrote this song as a last composition before his death knowing his days where counted... but although it was his final dark composition it has never been proven that he wrote it in this regard...
Is there anybody else like me? I just can't get enough of Django. What would you say are the three best CDs in this series that show off Django's incredible guitar skills. I'm certainly getting this vol 20. Name me three more please and say why.
Le Verseau Django, fils d'Uranus, créatif et fantasque, nous enchante et nous surprend.

It comes from the Hindu divinity Hanuman. It evokes through its title the origins of the manouches (which comes from India).

Adolph Sax would approve. In 1841, Sax relocated permanently to Paris and began work on a new set of instruments which were exhibited there in 1844.
