When you say 'most intelligently written film' meaning story line? There is no doubt that it did not earn monitarily or status wise as much as "7th Voyage of Sinbad" which most fans consider his FINEST film , not to mention one of 3 of Bernard Herrmann's greatest scores in his filmography. The creatures are much more fun and exciting as well. Not to take anything away from "Jason" but 7th Voyage, in my opinion, is Harryhausan's ultimate!
does anyone know a movie about hercules 12 labours? i saw this movie first when i was about 8 and love it so much and clash of the titans but i can't find any movies about hercules thanks for the uploads anyways!
Just came home from a big-screen screening of this movie at a theater in Hollywood. If you ever get the chance, go and see it in a theater. Totally different experience.
Also on the bill was a less well-known (to me) Ray Harryhausen effects vehicle called Jack the Giant Killer which was a revelation to me. Really really really good film with much to recommend it.
@florinu123 MOvies aren't about technology or CGI. its about experience through story, characters or imagination.
but i think harry would do a poor job with CGI. he should stick to some good ol' stop motion with the help with some mordern techs and surprise the audiences.
Now that Clash got a remake, still waiting to see how they handle that story line, word is that they're gunna make Hades the bad guy... thats not even in the actual myth! Still should be good anyways. I hope that Jason gets a remake, that would be pretty awesome!
Douglas Wilmer, Laurence Naismith, and Patrick Troughton all appeared in the Laurence Olivier film Richard III 8 years prior to this movie. Interesting, huh?
I love this movie (even though it came out WAY before I was born)! I used to watch it with my dad when I was little. The introduction music is still awesome as ever! :D
my dad says he remembers when it was in the theater as the "back up film" (back then u payed for two movies and u could walk out of the first if u didnt like it and see the back up one)
for some reason i like the old classic movies from the U.S. better then those of today. The actors arent that good as now, but they took everything out of the closet for those flicks, look at the ten commandments, the robe, spartacus etc etc. Nice !
I agree, I like watching these old movies, becuase back then it realy took hard work to produce the effects that they used, and I always love watching them, nowadays they just do it all with the computer, I like watching real models being put into shots with real people and interacting with them, I guess i am just nolstalgic, im not sure if i spelled that right.
this was one of my family's all time favs growing up - we'd purposefully look at the t.v. guide every Sunday hoping it would be on. thanx for the upload
The background music, the acting and the setting cannot ever be duplicated. Actors then did it for the art not for the money. This movie draws you in to it from start to finish.
Best movie of all time, both my parents were history and classics teachers... i got hold of this video in prep and it became my after school movie for about 3 years...never got bored of it!!!!
Jason appeared in various literature in the classical world of Greece and Rome, including the epic poem Argonautica and tragedian play, Medea. In the modern world, Jason has emerged as a character in various adaptations of his myths, such as the film Jason and the Argonauts. Jason has connections outside of the classical world, as he is seen as being the mythical founder of the city of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.
They don't make em like this any more. They should. Apparently a remake of Clash of the Titans is currently in production. Let's hope it's not a turkey.
Stop motion like this one is nice, but I still prefer animatronic puppets by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. You should see the gorgon they made for The Storyteller, I think it looks better than the Clash of the Titans medusa.
i love this movie! it's a classic! i grew up watching this! The 7th voyage of Sinbad was also a classic fave of mine growing up. i love movies of ancient Greek myths!
Everyone else along with my dad are always talking about when they saw this as a kid and now im following in there footsteps trying to relive wat my dad lived when he wnt to double feature movies for a buck. i wish they made movies like these today the graphics were more balievable. when you see movies now a days you dont come out and say those where really balevable effects no! now a days you say those where good CG effects which is kinda sad... Wow that was a long comment!
By far, the best 'mythology' film from the collaboration of Charles Schneer and Ray Harryhausen! From the creepiness of the winged harpies to the ominous, towering colossus, Talos, this classic fantasy was deserving (but, unfortunately, overelooked) of Oscar status for its incredible special effects and entertaining storyline! One of my all-time favorites as a child, and a fond memory of how good 'family' motion pictures used to be!
Yes,that IS Patrick Troughton,Doctor #2 ,as Phineas the Blinded Man.He also appeared in Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger,as Melanthius the Sage of Casgar, father of Dione.
i love this film, i never get bored watching it, and its just amazing now as when i first watched it when i was little. Harryhausen effects are just was wonderful

This one is a lot BETTER than today's movies.
Even with all the CGI they cannot hold a candle to the these classics.
And music by Bernard Herrmann, one of my favourites composers :-)
