FDNY had much faster turnouts back in the 1960's when the alarms came over the bells. If you didn't run, you might miss the rig. Under 60 sec's was normal.
@SarniaFireBuff If you listened to the guy filming talking you would of heard them mentioning the High Rise Unit and setting it up, that will delay the response...which in this case it did

@SarniaFireBuff- i know what you mean but think about this, Im a volunteer firefighter, think about how long it takes us to get to the station? Those guys are already at the station ready to go, sometimes it could take us close to 10mins to get to the station if traffic is bad and you can't use sirens.
Don't read this cause it actually works.U will be kissed in the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life.Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you do not post this comment on at least 3 videos you will die within 2 days. Now you started reading this don't stop. This is so scary.Put this on at least 5 videos in 143 minutes when your done, press F6 and your lover's name will appear on screen in big letters this is so scary cause it actually works
@SarniaFireBuff You don't know if are what box alarm this is (hell a 10-75 calls for 4 E, 3 L 2 batt chiefs etc unless they updated this), meaning this crew could have been the crew with the most distance to the call.
P.S: getting geared up and on the rig in under 2-3 minutes is standardized with most FD That don't mean every member can be on the rig in under 1 minute. fact. I do admit with a camera there, they should have stepped it up.. but could have been a sleep be for call.
just a friendly FYI. we generally don't consider a rig part ___ and part ___...although Mack is just the standard chassis that the rig was built on, it's still really considered a saulsbury (which is now e-one) piece of apparatus
i agree with everyone else who has said that the reason they take their time responding is because they were probably not the first company to be called out. they know how to handle things..so they know how much time to take. If they needed to be there asap they would have been rolling out in about 45 seconds tops
Guys. NYC is a huge city. So alot of FDNY doesnt hae to turn out in under a minute. Because of traffic and response times. Chances are there are alrwady going to be a lot of trucks there.
what type of electric siren do they use? because we have a pa300 on our engine and wen i use it on manual it doesnt sound good like the ones on these engines. i like how wen u press it, it goes high pitch really fast. well thats me
a 4 man srry i just wanted to know...most places use 4 man crews like philly, sait louis, chicago and other ones..FDNY has some 5 or 6 man compinies like squads and engine 54 i think is 5 man.....damn why have a guy that just calculates hose lenths?
I dont think so. The 6 man engines are typically single engines or engines within a residential areas. The reason for the residential areas is because they need more people to stretch hoselines in the hallways.
The idea of the HRU's is not as a firefighting unit, its for high rise rescue. HRU'S carry breathing apparatus for the crew, lines(ropes)for rescue, etc, etc. The crew that mans the unit has been trained in Urban Search and Rescue, Building Collapse, High Angle Rope Rescue, etc.
the FDNY is 1,00 more busy then ANY U.K. department (no offence). The FDNY can do it in 30 seconds (check out Squad 18).. the FDNY gets A LOT of bull smoke runs and so when they do come in they take tehir time.
That probably also means that you 1. Didnt have enough time to properly dress out. 2 Probably are forced to finish dressing out in the rig which is unsafe, and 3 Almost no department is able to have a crew dress out, enter the rig, and hit the road in 30 seconds MAX. Im not trying to be an ass or something, but it just isnt likely
I found out about the accident in The New York Post. Apparently on Nov 23 Ladder 12 and Squad 18 were responding to a call when they collided between seventh avenue and West 10th Street. 12 firefighters were injured including the first women in the departments history to join an elite rescue squad. Both trucks were severly damaged.
27 females in FDNY as of December 03, 2001 and it's already 2009, you do the math buddy, there should be twice or third as many as what there was in 2001.
in talking about firefighters riding the engine, ladder, rescue , and special unit tell me what engine, ladder, or other unit they 1 of the so called 27 belong to
if you didn't have your head up your fucking ass you would understand a lot more genius and read before you post stupid shit. I said as of Dec. 3, 2001 there were 27 Females. What is the year now? It's 2009 it probually doubled the amount from what it was in 2001.
Hey psp310 Don't let your mind wander - it's far too small to be let out on its own
and what does it make a difference what units they are in and no i ain't giving you the companies.
so if the High Rise Unit does nothing most of the time, does the crew assigned to it sit around all day? Or do they pull people off of another truck to man the unit when it gets called out?
The highrise unit is staffed by the engine it is quartered with, and responds as a 2nd piece. Should E-3 be unavailable to take the HRU, there is a designated back-up company.
The HRU does not go out that often, might have needed to build up air pressure. They could have been in the middle of eating dinner, who knows. If it was a 1st due phone alarm for a fire, they may probably would have been out the door alot quicker.
Battalion 7?!
That's Orio Palmer's old unit. May we never forget his sacrifice on 9/11.
