That sound used to wake me up at 2:00 / 3:00 am high overflying the westcoast of Holland, in often adverse weather conditions, and while I lay listening to the waning sound, I often wondered who those men were that flew them, what they posessed of flying during the night away from everything, their families, etc.

At times the sound was audible for at least 7 minutes while it poured rain and wind houling around the house. Great memories!

and such a beautiful sound to be awoken by. I used to do much the same listening to the RAAF Caribou clawing its way across the sky in the middle of the night wondering why I wasn't up there at the controls!!! Sure the sound of R-2000's is nowhere near exotic as a pair of Hercules...but there's something haunting about hearing 14 cylinder radials at work. It makes you want to fly them. Great Perspective :)

J'ai volé avec une machine de ce type au début des années 80 sur un vol de 4heures, chauffage en panne comme souvent, mais quel bruit fabuleux et des flammes bleues à l'échappement bien visibles dans la nuit: ces moteurs 14cyl.
