This inferiority complex thing is quite pervasive. Honestly, with over 40 different shades of African skin, its about time we decolonised our minds from some misplaced and sometimes celebrated notions of what African beauty is and is meant to look like.
I had to rewind and replay that again, just to make sure I heard right. Seriously, though, this attitude should have ended a long, long, time ago. By now, we really shouldn't still have these provincial sterotypes in regards to what's beautiful...the longombas should recongnize that. I digress, however. The song was great...
In around the first verse of the song, he's describing the "perfect woman" so to say...There's nothing wrong with his preference, it's just that his ideals are alittle...stereotypical...It's more media based than anything and that's what's bothering me...
this song is a Public Service Announcement (PSA) about HIV and AIDS among young people. it is done in very informal language, and speaks to the youth and not AT them, warning them about unportected sex and uninformed decisions. The reason young swahili speakers love this song so much is because it resonates with them . it is a timely song especially with HIV / AIDS claiming so many young people who are full of potential

those who don't understand Swahilli, the song is a cautionary tale about HIV and people being taken in by physical beauty.
By the way, I'm posting from the most beautiful place on earth, Keekrock lodge in the Maasai Mara reserve.
