  • Fix or repair daily :)

  • u forgot to say that in order to get proper readings the piston of the cylinders been tested must be in top dead center.

  • so if water comes jumping out of the radiator with the cap off while the engine is running is that sign of a blown hea gasket too?

  • @lcabrera69 No but it is when air is injected in the cylinder through the leak down tester.

  • @richpin06a yea im scared that i might have a blown head gasket because the car over heats but the fans dont work anymore so im thinking is the fans the cause the over heating but sometimes a little of water comes off the tail pipes when i just start the car and like i explained to you water just jumps out of the radiator when i take off the cap and the engine is running

  • @lcabrera69 A COMBUSTION LEAK DETECTOR will tell you if you have a problem or not.

  • @lcabrera69 hey noticed your comment and thought id share what my cas was doing. well basically the same thing as you. take cap off run engine and coolant just jumps out like gush .... gush.... gush. anyway come to find out my heater core was filled with ice so i took a little heater put in the cab under the pass side dash and melted the ice in the heater core. now you may not have ice but your heater core may be cloged. check hose to see if they get hot like they should if not its cloged

  • @gympvox thanks i appreciate it found out i need to fix my heater core too thanks

  • @lcabrera69

    I have a Camry 96 4cyl.

One day the check engine came ON and car was running rough, missfire cylinder 2.

Found water in my no2 chamber spark plug. Everybody said this it's the head gasket.Paid a good technician at home, he took out the head -to the machinist, resurface and installed everithing back, new gaskets.

Car running for 30 min everithing was fine. Days later - runned the car another 30 min same thing, check engine ON, same chamber found water. Should I trash it?

  • @lcabrera69 you should never take off the radiator cap of a running engine. you could get seriously injured cuz of the hot water inside. a car will not (at least euro and jap cars) overheat when the fan is not working. only in idle they will overheat. when you drive the air will blow through the radiator and cool the coolant which in turn cools the engine. a fan is not needed in this system unless you are driving slowly (traffic jam) if your car overheats whilst driving you should visit a garage

  • hi i got a ford windstar 2002 3.8 lx my spark plugs are wet from coolant every body says to get a new motor but the cost is $1200. what do u think would be the best solution repair it or junk it?? Also do u have any videos on that type of repair if so can u send me a link.

  • @JCPEREZ1569 If it has a cracked head you can put a used head on cheap if you can do the work yourself.I do not have a video on this vehicle at this time.

  • HeHe, I just watched your part 2 video after I posted my comment and sure enough, crack on the exhaust. Also, if you come across a 80's/90's mopar 4 cylinder(2.2/2.5) they like to crack between the valves, but they don't leak anything(unless its huge). It's just one of those quirks I guess lol.

  • how to put it at TDC?

  • The 1.9 fords were notorious for blowing heads.

  • @memadmax69 Now you tell me......haha

  • @richpin06a lol, yea, they usually crack at the exhaust seat, or a piece of the combustion chamber shroud will literally fall off and grenade everything. I think it might be because they don't have enough coolant going into the head, or just plain not have enough metal around the combustion chamber in the head(inside where you can't see it)

  • @memadmax69 thats just ford in general

  • Your voice sounds sortof like Ray Romano

  • @michaelsmith295 If i had a nickle for every time i

  • @michaelsmith295 Or Peter Griffin from Family Guy.

  • Top dead center

  • fucking crackheads

  • woah geez !

  • I have done this many times, and have learned that oil that looks like a coffee shake means it needs disassembly anyway. This engines valve cover which has only 3 hold down bolts & a 1 piece flat gasket is readily & easily removed in less than 3 minutes. Because of that, loosening of the valve rockers on the questionable cylinder is much safer than risking the crankshaft turning when you fill the cylinder with that much air. So you can put the piston down in a safer place B4 filling it.

  • fuck the test just what you showed me would make me rip the head off

  • you didn't tell viewers that they would have to have #2 cylinder at TDC or else that test would not work.

  • @mem5922 Sorry about that i will get right on it and make a note in the video.

  • @mem5922 Hey, what's TDC?

  • hey richpin06a did you pulled out this head? and what did you find. thanks

  • @theking549 Yes i did check out my video "Cylinder Head Replacement Part 2 " to see all the nice details.

  • ty

  • peter griffin!

  • hey richpin did you put the engine at TDC before doing the leak down?

  • @moesif Yes each cylinder i put on TDC

  • cool

  • Why don't you just build a "manifold' and run hoses to all cylinders at the same time........put all of the cylinders under 50 psi load and watch the transitions......

    Great video

  • i have a question for you....when doing a leak down test, aren't you supposed to have your piston at TDC on compression stroke, so that both of your valves ( intake and exhaust) are closed?

  • @qfo Yes that is right

  • @richpin06a welll i just never really hear you mention that, even on your VW engine video where you do the leak down test, where you seem to have a huge loss of compression, you never said that you were on the compression stroke, you just said you are at TDC. it could be confusing and lead people to make a bad diagnostic on their own car, because before i knew anything about cars, i would come to youtube and watch videos of people like you, who teach us.

  • @qfo You are right i should have stated TDC on the compression stroke.

  • @qfo Would you also not need to eliminate broken piston rings -- or badly worn out at least ?

Then there;s the problem with a blow through on the piston crown by pre-ignition in the old days .

Need to pull the head at this point anyway .

  • @millwrightman99

Only a failure between the coolant and oil systems will make your oil look like a coffee shake Broken piston rings or hole would cause a misfire ,fouled spark plug, low compression and smoke out the exhaust with an obvious smell of burning oil.

With a test like above, checking "specifically" for ring failure, without a failed oil/water system, put your ear to an open oil filler cap & listen. you will hear the air leaking, echo into the crankcase up through the oil returns.

  • Great vid Richpin. I ALWAYS learn something watching your videos. Your actually quite famous in the world of car repair. Dont ever stop teaching us.

  • @ThePaulgregg Do you think someday i will be signing autographs (laugh). To keep you up to date this engine has a cracked head and i am in the possess of finding a replacement .Two part video to follow.

  • OK Rich. What do you quote for the customer? In a '95, is it cheaper to junk the car or fix it?

I hope you fix it, I wanna see it done. But from the customer's perspective I wouldn't be surprised if he let's it die....

  • How many miles on the engine?

  • @turbobuick33 Hard to say you see this engine is not the one that came with the vehicle.

  • this engine is a real squirter !

I think we are going to have a bunch of cool videos with this !

  • @michaelovitch Might.....let all you guys know tomorrow.

  • @richpin06a Much easier to scrap it...Of course this is someones car, this is a turd of an engine.

  • now we need to see how to fix it

  • i was going to say that looks like my dads escort engine except mine is the 2.0 liter from a 98. what year is this escort> the older onced im guessing. great videos btw i love ur page

  • @joeyz2k It is a 1995

  • Do more vids on pulling the head and repairing it!

  • @RandallFlaggNY I just got the green light to do it

  • @richpin06a Looking forward to it.

Does this motor suffer from defective head gaskets, like my Mom's '89 Mercury Sable 3.8L V-6? That engine was notorious for a cheap head gasket.

    Maybe Ford never learns...

  • Will you be making a video of the teardown and assessment of damage?

  • @sbakar Yes just got the OK

  • @richpin06a Great news, Rich. I've always wanted to see this done, from start to finish. I'm not sure if I understand the economics of what happens next -- some kind of discussion about those points would be worthwhile also. Whether you get a rebuilt engine, or rebuild it yourself, and how much all of that costs (excluding labour). thanks for your effort, Rich.

  • what model car is it? focus or escort

  • @crystalscan2002 Escort

  • @richpin06a is that anther POS ur going have series on lol how long can a motor run with a crack cyl or head

  • @richpin06a lol will this aanther pos car we see lots of videos on :D how long could that car run with blown gasket
