Because servals are extremely rare, high maintenence and not a lot of states will allow you to keep them. Some places won't even let you have anything more concentrated than an F3.

@CahDe1 Titan doesn't live with me. I made the video. In four US states they are banned, Hawaii, NY, Mas and Alsaska. Check the legals first. Titan is a domestic cat although he is a first generation wildcat hybrid. Talk to Martin Stucki of A1 Savannahs about adopting a Savannah cat or a serval. Be well informed before proceeding. And be realistic. Titan is extremely well socialised and gets on well with people and other cats.
@Heyde1979 Probably due to (a) fear of escapes and the impact on native wild-life that a feral wildcat hybrid will have and (b) the impact on the serval being imported into the USA. Pretty well all wildcats are threatened in the wild in one way or another. Some more than others and (c) breeders need servals to breed F1 etc Savannahs. Servals require special facilities and servals have been known to escape. They are medium sized wildcats. Escaped servals cause alarm.
@dingledop3210 I am surprised you say that. The F1 Savannah is substantially larger (twice the size) of the average moggie. They have spectacular wild looking coats and appearance. They are smarter and more active. They are very different but yes they are domestic cats that fit in well with family life.

Do you have to get a special license or anything for those cats? How did you go about acquiring Titan? Do they get along well with other domesticated cats?
Sorry for the questions, but you seem knowledgable and I have been thinking about getting a wild cat.

@CahDe1 Titan doesn't live with me. I made the video. In four US states they are banned, Hawaii, NY, Mas and Alsaska. Check the legals first. Titan is a domestic cat although he is a first generation wildcat hybrid. Talk to Martin Stucki of A1 Savannahs about adopting a Savannah cat or a serval. Be well informed before proceeding. And be realistic. Titan is extremely well socialised and gets on well with people and other cats.

@Heyde1979 Probably due to (a) fear of escapes and the impact on native wild-life that a feral wildcat hybrid will have and (b) the impact on the serval being imported into the USA. Pretty well all wildcats are threatened in the wild in one way or another. Some more than others and (c) breeders need servals to breed F1 etc Savannahs. Servals require special facilities and servals have been known to escape. They are medium sized wildcats. Escaped servals cause alarm.

@dingledop3210 I am surprised you say that. The F1 Savannah is substantially larger (twice the size) of the average moggie. They have spectacular wild looking coats and appearance. They are smarter and more active. They are very different but yes they are domestic cats that fit in well with family life.
