  • for them 4 i'll trade in america china everywhere east of germany

  • Bit of jimmy savile

  • Aww! "Separately but together." That's so cute!! Wish we could have him back...

  • and haha Gaga will never have a place "up there" to me...same with any of the Amercian Idol finalists....same old thing...annoying voice + annoying vibrado doesn't equal a good singer

  • haha! john rocks!

  • the...lost weekend

  • This video just shows how naturally funny and charismatic John was. He really wasn't this cocky "I'm better than you" kind of guy. He had a humbleness about his incredible talents and vast accomplishments that made him very real and relatable. I also LOVE that freaking album!!!!

  • @lalalives "Walls and Bridges" was also his last solo album that Yoko wasn't involved with, which just reinforces my belief of how much better off John would have been without her. Sorry Yoko fans, but she was just about the worst thing that ever happened to John. Who knows? If he had stayed with May, everything might have turned out differently. He might even still be with us, which would be great! I love that album too, and think it was his best solo work overall. "# 9 Dream" is awesome.

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce "Sorry Yoko fans"? - You mean the both of them?

  • @ToddSweeney i think so too, plus May was hot :) but maybe he was not OK , love is an open-cell prison ...

  • @riktok A very good point and yeah, May was very hot. Love is a lot of things and I think "strange" is at the top of the list.

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce i totally agree. The Quarrymen were definitaly John's but Paul brought George! Without George and Paul The Quarrymen would've fell through the cracks after John's monther's death. Everyone left John but George and Paul. No doubt in my mind John would've had a great solo career on his own but THE BEATLES were all four of theirs.

  • Without Paul, the Beatles wouldn't have been nearly as great. Not at all. Who knows what would have happened if they hadn't met, but in my opinion, the Beatles were every bit as much Paul's band as it was John's.

  • "Seperately but together." I love it.

  • John created amazing songs. I just didn't like the fact that he got so thin compared to their day tripper music video. He looked so much more handsome on that video.

  • Oops sorry but anyways it wasn't john's band

  • @MrsBeatleLover05 The Beatles were John's band in fact, everybody knows it.

  • @PhillyDippy5 Maybe John was the first MEMBER of the band, but they were a unit. If John had not got together with Paul and George, The Quarrymen would have probably gone NOWHERE, disbanded and they would have been nothing but a bunch of kids in a skiffle band way back when. Face it, there's only one person who put The Beatles together. It was GOD.

  • @John91040 it wasn't

  • HEY! GIVE PEACE A CHANCE! SPREAD THE WORD! PLEASE! THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW THAT WE NEED PEACE IN THE WORLD! I AM NOT TRYING TO BE AN ADVERTISING B!TCH OR ANYTHING BUT PLEASE, WE NEED TO TELL THE WORLD!!! peace, love and hapiness to you all, and i mean it.

  • "we've all got albums, singles everything zooming up the charts isn't that nice folks, separately but together". I think Deep down inside john was proud that the boys were being succesful on their own terms as solo artists but still being together in one place... the charts. as if that in itself was a reunion especially when he says "together". There's a lomging quality to it ,as if in his mind they'll always be together.

  • long live to johnny!! this guy was a genious! fuck mccartney!

  • @ifuckyoursister20 And clearly, you aren't a genius. Lol. What if there was no McCartney, though? That means no Beatles, sir. Respect them all.

  • @ifuckyoursister20

    You're right.

    @klebacher

There would be Beatles without McC. It was John's band.

  • @John91040

Without Paul the Beatles would have been a much different and lesser band. And likely we wouldn't be having a Beatle's discussion on Youtube as the Beatles would never have existed.

  • @jimidee33 Nobody should speak bad about any of The Beatles, the Beatles wouldn't have existed without any of them, John, Paul, George or Ringo. But it's true that The Beatles were John's band.

  • @PhillyDippy5 Paul joined after John invited him to do so; at this time John's band were know as the "Quarrymen". Paul thought John an older guy with beer on his breath. John liked the fact that paul could play as I recall,"Twenty Flight Rock". You're correct Philly!

  • @jimidee33 The Beatles were called before, "John and the moondogs" and John and the Silver Beetles, Paul and George were in that band at the time, i mean, they were the moondogs and the Silver Beetles, John was always John. Then The Beatles were an unique band.

  • @PhillyDippy5 Philly, when John first formed the band with his school boy chums, the band was known as the "Quarry Men". This was the name of the band when Paul was invited by John to join.

  • @jimidee33 I know the history, even there is a song her ein youtube with John Lennon performing with the Quarry Men the day he met Paul. And there is another song by Freddy Lennon (John's father) called it's my life and that's the song which inspired Johnn to wrote Imagine.

  • @PhillyDippy5 I have heard the Freddy Lennon song. John sounds a lot like Freddy. I sort of feel sorry for Fred and have read he tried to take custody of John and John chose his mom Julia instead. He may have gotten a bit of a bad rap.

  • @jimidee33 Yeah, that's a very simplified rendering. John's parents asked him at age 5 to choose which parent he wanted to live with. He chose his father, but then after his mother walked away he ran after her and said he wanted her. In the end neither parent took him and he was raised by his aunt Mimi. John's parents didn't realize how messed up that was and he was pretty afflicted his entire life because of them.

  • @lalalives yes indeed this was a painful moment in his life

but the reason why he ended up living with his aunt Mimi was because him mum couldn't even to get him his own bed. as for Johns dad he was away at sea. johns Aunt Mimi had a bit more money the John's mother

  • @jimidee33 I meant, "That's my life", by Freddy Lennon /watch?v=pE6WBGIUX98

  • @ifuckyoursister20 : dont say that, JPGR (John, Paul, George, Ringo) are all legends and are all the same

  • sorry my msg sounded otherwise i meant to say lennon cant be bad at all cuz it was he who wrote imagine

  • GIVE PEACE A CHANCE

  • IF someone had to write IMAGINE , he needed to have 0 errors as a person

  • @123456ani aw come on man everyone has errors! lennon wasnt a saint!

  • I think they must have had a love-hate relationship like Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. Personally I don't like Yoko Ono, she is only famous because she married John. Noel Gallagher is obsessed with John lennon as as he says, 'the more I get to know about him, the less I like him'. John Lennon was an awesome songwriter, but he wasn't a very nice person. Ask Julian.

  • @sabazurc Fuck you!!!!!!!!! John Lennon was one of the GREATEST of all time! A true genius, poet with his words! I am 25 years old and even though I was not born when The Beatles or Mr. Lennon where in their prim. I know their music will live on forever! Their lyrics will never die!!

  • @sabazurc no fuck you !!!!!!! :D

  • @sabazurc why come on this video just to be disrespectful?

  • @sabazurc

    Fuck yourself instead, imbecilic dickhead!

  • JOHN was one Genius motherfuker....

  • Shit I want him back :(

  • @PaulLetItBe dont we all

  • @PaulLetItBe could we ask God for a trade? give us back Freddy, Harrison, Hendrix and Lennon for Bieber, the jonas brothers and lady gaga?

  • @matco24 I don't think Lady Gaga should be traded - and seriously in some 50 years people will be sitting and saying the same exact thing, just this time Gaga will have a place up there. A lot of people seem to forget that psychologically people always worship what's behind us more than what's happening now. Lady Gaga is making the only great pop out right now and is the most original to come in years. If you don't respect her, you don't respect the people she's inspired by, such as Mercury.

  • @MannequinMars I respect whts "behind us" cause it don't compare what is "here right now" and I disagree with ur last statement...I think her music is bleh just like her costumes and need for attention...I'll take Elton John any day over her...the only haha way she is "influenced" by queen is she ripped "Gaga" off one of their songs and called herself tht...wow...sooo original...nah, don't like her

  • @MannequinMars Really? "If you don't respect her, you don't respect the people she's inspired by, such as Mercury." Rubbish.

  • @MannequinMars Agreed. I am a HUGE John Lennon fan and I also love Lady Gaga. She shouldn't be traded. She's amazingly creative and talented. If someone disagrees, they should go watch one of her acoustic performances.

  • @SandyPrincessPatty You may like her, but she's nothing in comparison to the greats. I don't wanna agitate you, but it's the truth!

  • @MilitaryArcade Of course she's not. She's only been around for 3 years and even though I'm a big fan, I will always love John Lennon 1000000x more. I was just saying she's very talented unlike pretty much every other pop star right now (in my opinion).

  • @MannequinMars

That is bullshit. They'll be worshipping Arctic Monkeys, The Horrors, Foals, NOT pop shit.

  • @matco24 these comments aren't clever, obviously there are people that are more valuable to this species than others. I'd love to get Ghandi and Spinoza for my next door neighbor and boss, but I don't go posting it on Spinoza videos.

  • @matco24 i think god knows that is a bad trade on his part

  • @024lizardking yea, all tht good for all tht bad...I understand totally!

  • Hi John

  • People should really stop fighting in the comments

  • @bjkatt7 NO THEY SHOULDN'T YOUR AN ASSHOLE. lol, just joking.

  • @Uzzie101 HAHAHAHAHHA nice :)

  • that was funny!

  • God bless John!

  • Yes 1974 was a special year. John was single. Yet did not Yoko set John up with May Pang? What's with that? does anybody in internet land know the whole story behind that?

  • haahhahaa

  • John's such a BOSS!

  • hahahaha i love this man!!!! XD

  • This was his famous lost weekend, and he looks really strung out.

  • @350125Stay his "lost weekend" was actually 2 or so years, that's just what they called it

  • Er.. i know.

  • @350125Stay well sorry, you made it sound otherwise.

  • thank you god bless you and get on to business...priceless

  • HELLO PEOPLE OF INTERNET

  • You are quackers if you believe that.

  • my book will change your reality

  • maybe hes not on any drugs and hes just naturally funny and talented. duurrr

  • @dnt4get2takeabreath he was just naturally funny and talented but fur sure he was on drugs

  • @dnt4get2takeabreath Yeah =] & Even if He Did Do Drugs That's His Own Buisness =]

  • Comment removed

  • He was, allegedly, on cocaine again at this time. But I think it was mainly alcohol for him during his 'lost weekend'.

  • @dnt4get2takeabreath drugs, yoko, and pauls ego and sensitivity, and selfishness broke up the beatles. mainly drugs though

  • @dnt4get2takeabreath Oh, ya THINK?? That does happen now and again.

  • LOL!! i love him!!!!

  • jaja por que murio el lennon

  • he does the same hand gestures as his son julian....lol...hes such a legend

  • este hombre la muerte bien graciosos

  • Haha, Lennon was great and so witty. Legend.

  • christ what are you all on

  • what is he on lol hes hillariouse lsd will do that

  • oh yeah cause you want paul and ringo dead but you still want a beatle dead thats WRONG!!!

  • The beatles are dying in the wrong order

  • John and George will always be there when we need them-in the faith and the hearts of all their dedicated fans!

  • So... you want ringo and paul dead...

  • @FilmStudentWannabe no

but the talented beatles died first.

i didnt say it it was a comedian.

  • No they aren't!! they're dying to fast is what it is!

  • IDIOT..Maybe it was your great great great great great great great grandparents on both sides of your family who should have died in infancy (you see..I'm offending no one it's that long ago)...BUGGER OFF YOU GOOSE!!

  • @terrythekittie it wasnt me who said it.

    i was quoting someone else

  • @eleanizzle1 ..STILL NOT A NICE THING TO SAY.

  • why wasnt he home baking bread like a good little rich househusband

  • haha you can tell he doesn't want to be a corporate sellout but he's gotta make a living somehow

  • This is just as the record biz is becoming the megacorporate monster it would become by the time Lennon actually DID play the corporate game in October 1980 when Bob Geffen came over to the Record Plant and greeted Yoko before John thus sealing the deal in he wake of heavyweights like Ahmet Ertegun. Here... Lennon is just trying to avoid going to Vegas. Not yet a classic rock hero.. he's trying to keep his music out there and kind of drowning at it! But EMI isn't yet the bohemoth it became

  • yeh, hes very sarcastic.

i really admire him for ripping the whole industry to shreds.

  • Surprise Surprise (Sweet Bird Of Youth)

is a great track on this album.

  • "Sweet Bird Of Youth" is a Tennesse Williams play. You meant "Surprise Surprise (Sweet Bird Of Paradox)".

  • Oh yeah.

  • did you mean gorgeous?

  • Great when John had done with that bitterness period of 1971 & was feeling fun & warmth about Paul again

  • For sure. I think they were all angry and disillusioned after the breakup, but around 74, Paul and John were seeing each other again. In fact, they were in CA with Stevie Wonder, and things were going so well, John proposed the four get back together for awhile. But when he mended things with Yoko, that got called off. Foiled by Ono, again...

  • Anytime I see a video of John with his face looking full and looking healthy and happy and well fed, I know it's 1974, the year he was split from Yoko. He was a borderline anorexic when he was with her, I still can't figure that out.

  • Yeah, I agree...John always looked better with alittle more weight like seen here and especially in the early Beatle days when he had a healthier looking fuller face...he looked his worst when he was with Yoko.

  • I know that when they were together, Yoko put John on an incredibly healthy diet... But the kind of extreme diet, you know what I mean? So that propably accounted to him looking like a 'borderline anorexic' !

  • they were also smoking a fair amount of heroin at the time, which wouldnt have helped their appetite and probably had more to do with looking gaun and unhealthy than a strict diet would have

  • He hadnt been on heroin for years when walls and bridges was released.

  • Not at all clear what was happening in Lennon's life post 1974. We only know the version of it that Elliot Mintz, press spokesperson for Lennon and any clients including Phil Spector who according to Mintz was just fine until the day they clapped him off to jail, and Yoko and John just before his death told us. There are versions by Julian and Cynthia Lennon, Fred Seaman, May Pang which differ from the official story. John.. usually a chunky guy was bone thin around this time.

  • ummm u shoot up

  • spastic...., you can smoke heroin too....

  • @superman11978

Did you read John Lennon: The Life? =/ He was drinking heavily & smoking & throwing temper tantrums when he was away from her for those 18 months. He called her everyday & told her he missed her. How about you actually pick up a damn book?

  • @CalloohCallayRunAway That book is sitting right next to me, haha.

  • @xMyDinoRawrsx

    Good read, isn't it? :3

  • @superman11978: It was May Pang's mother's food.

  • @superman11978 I'm taking a wild guess, but that might have had something to do with the heroin

  • @superman11978 yea, they were both hippies so there really wasn't anyone to tell them they shouldn't take drugs (which was the WORST part of the Beatles! that and their smoking habits, because that killed George) :( otherwise, I love the Beatles :)

  • @moviemakerpeoples025 Yeah, they should have the ones that were safe Like marijuana and acid, but for some reason they went to cocaine and heroin

  • @50BurntIncenseSticks they shouldn't have DONE anything at all!

  • @moviemakerpeoples025 Why, So they can do things that are way more unhealthy like prescription medicine, alcohol, cigarettes,

Marijuana,Acid, psilocybin(mushrooms) Are very safe and has no recorded deaths

So they should have DONE those things.

thats kinda what inspired there music thats where most of the ideals of the music was from.

  • @50BurntIncenseSticks a.) no one should ever take anything that they shouldn't, and yes, they could've done worse, but not too much worse. b.) they did smoke cigarettes and that's what caused George's passing. c.) None of those things are safe. No drugs are safe. They're horrible things that people take even though they know it's bad for them. d.) most of they better stuff is from when they weren't high.

  • @moviemakerpeoples025 A) Tell that to the Cancer Patients that can actually be healed by marijuana -which has many medical benefits.

C)Yea they are look them up on a Non-Biased website or books based on true evidence, Acid, has changed the way of thought making very good music like in my life, All you need is love, Hello Goodbye

Just look out for Alcohol, cigarettes, meth, cocaine

what the psychadelics teach people is to stop hating, live for today, be more of a better person-But thats really bad

  • @moviemakerpeoples025 patsxskip is hair of the dog addiction?

  • @moviemakerpeoples025 I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with that. From 'Rubber Soul" onwards, they were high, and that was their best period, musically, but drugs will ruin your life if you let them. I know.

  • @50BurntIncenseSticks weed and acid causes deep paranoia, fixed quickly in those surroundings BY HERION,or slowly,if ever by hard therapy. With millions lookin at you, which would you do?

  • @morsimaniman Myths..? i cant really take you seriously.

  • @superman11978 heroin.

  • @superman11978 He was unhappy with Yoko in the late 70's (don't believe the fairytale marriage media myth) and from what I hear from people close to Yoko she was was not happy It went both ways. I agree with you on the lost weekend time period. He was with May Pang and May wanted John to get close to Julian his son and Paul..Yoko was an isolationist.

  • @superman11978 also John was alone in this video, no Yoko attached to his side. John was dependent on Yoko in a lot of ways. He called her mother. I think near the end, the few years before he died he was very nostalgic and made peace with the Beatles thing.

Listen to his recorded diaries made in late 1979 on here they are called: John Lennon Diary Part 1 - 2

  • @superman11978 HELL YESSS

  • @superman11978 You're so full of it.

  • #9 Dream -- my favourite of John's songs - beautiful, mystical.

  • Venus & Mars - Walls & Bridges hmm

  • man john was just amazing, a great person and musician i can't fathom how much of an impact he and paul mccartney had on the world and rock and roll. Its a shame that he had to go, what a waste R.I.P. john and george

  • I LOVE YOU JOHN AND I MISS YOU

  • He was so great

  • I'm so happy he mentioned his forgotten classic "#9 Dream" which is my favourite John song.

  • John Lennon was the last of The Beatles to have a solo #1 single.

  • Actually George was with "Got My Mind Set on You"

  • no harrison had my sweet lord 4 weeks on spot 1 at the end of 70.

  • I know but Harrison released "Got My Mind Set On You" in 1988, 18 years after he released "My Sweet Lord"

  • i meant that he wasn't he last beatles to get a number one solo single.

  • I know, George was

  • no he wasn't.

lennon: 1980 "(Just Like) Starting Over"

mccartney: 1971 "Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey"

    harrison: my sweet lord 1970

    starr photograph 1973

  • 1988 - George Harrison "Got My Mind Set On You"

Since than, no Beatle has had a number 1

  • sorry man, i have understand you wrong, i thought you meant the last of them to have one, but you meant the last at all.

  • No problem

  • Ironically, "Got My Mond Set On You" was the only solo #1 single by any of The Beatles not written by any of the members.

  • Thats not true. "Just Like Starting Over" by Lennon was a #1. "Say Say Say" by Macca was also a number #1.

  • Rjkahlon, we know that The Beatles had a LOT of #1 solo singles. Vividwatch47 was saying that it was the only solo #1 that wasn't written by any of them...which - GUESS WHAT - isn't true!

  • "Got My Mind Set On Yo" was written by Rudy Clark, not Harrison!

  • Ever hear of a little song called "You're Sixteen"? It was a number one hit for Ringo in 1973, written by brothers Robert and Richard Sherman.

  • Ringo also hit the Top 10 with a cover of The Platters "Only You" which was an adaptation of a French song, and also sang lead on Buck Owens' "Act Naturally" which was the "B"side of "Yes It Is", and he later rerecorded it as a duet with Owens in 1990.

  • I thought we were just talking about solo Beatle number one singles that weren't written by any of The Beatles. By the way, 'Act Naturally' was really the B-side to 'Yesterday', and 'Yes It Is' was actually the B-side to 'Ticket To Ride'.

  • You might be interested to know that Harrison was involved in a lawsuit from the publisher from "He's So Fine" claiming that he stole the melody from the song as the basis for his #1 hit "My Sweet Lord", though Harrison claimed that it was inspired by "Oh Happy Day". I don't if this qualifies as the first time a Beatle hit #1 with a song he didn't compose.

  • @vividwatch47 oh don't be silly, George wrote the dang song!!!

  • @snoogans999, just listen to "La Vida La Voica". In my opinion the songwriters stole the rhythm from Black Sabbath's "Paranoid".

  • @vividwatch47 yeah it happens the Chili Peppers have copied a couple songs, like the beginning of Breadfan(Budgie) for the beginning of Around The World

  • @vividwatch47 There is a term for copying something while thinking it's an original idea, something to do with the subconscious

  • Why is that ironic?

  • Because all of the Beatles' solo #1s were composed by the members themselves (but then again, "Twist And Shout" was one of the few Beatles' hits not composed by Lennon & McCartney).

  • You're correct,Lennon was the last of the 4 Beatles to finally reach #1 on the US singles chart but it was actually with "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" in 1974
