@musicrocksmysoul96 Well, the first recommendation I would make is obviously to practice :) Practice notes that are even higher than what you are capable of now (Unless of course you're trying to make your highest E's and F's quiet). And a warmup I use that helps me immensely is to play something simple like Amazing Grace in the lower register as soft as possible while maintaining a tone. SERIOUSLY soft. And then keep the exact embouchure and play the high notes. That has helped me greatly.
You are amazing. That's really all I can manage to say. I'm a freshman in high school and now I feel completely lost.. O_o I absolutely love to play flute and would like to make it a big part of my life but now I just totally lost confidence...Any advice? I mean there's just no way I even have a semblance of a chance to compare to you. Good job though! You're my idol now ;) lol
@SnallyTreeHugger Wow, thanks :) Well just find good teachers, spend lots of time experimenting by yourself and keep in the habit of practicing constantly. Listen to a ton of flutists, find what you like and want and figure out how you can do that for your own style. Always be questioning, "How could I make this passage be better?" and try not to get tense or frustrated. Relax, forget the fingers and notes. Play the MUSIC and make it your own.
@Nalern Oh my goodness...Thank you so much. I will live up to that advice. It makes a lot of sense and I already think it's working. It feels good to play music, so why not play and play and play until you are the best you can be? =) Would you ever post more videos of you playing flute? I think that since you're really great a lot of people (like me!) could get inspired by you. But anyways, thanks again. I really appreciate your wisdom.. ^-^
Your technique is awesome. But don't forget that TONE IS KING. I felt like the faster you got, you worse the tone got. You must do this even when double tonguing at break neck speed.
Also: the whole thing came across very note-ey. Make a musical line out of what you're doing. Those judges are not professional at all. All they did was baby you.
I'm aware the judges weren't professional. I never claimed this was a very musical performance. It was for fun, I took a week and a half to prepare and it was casual. I understand many people's desire to critique and attempt to improve me, but trust me I'm aware of all your concerns and they are noted. I don't play like this normally, it was a fun concert, the audience was entertained, I had fun, and if music can't be fun then it has lost most of what makes it an expression of humanity.
but it absolutely amazes me how rude your audience was. people talking and walking around. opening and closing doors. thats completely disrespectful. im sorry you had to deal with them. that kind of behavior is never acceptable. seriously.
This is really good. I am working on Carnival of Venice (for fun) right now too... and it's not an easy beast to tackle at all. (: Thank you for sharing. Keep playing... (:
I loved your performance. You did great....I have a questionn I would like to play that so do you have any idea where I can find this music please? Oh and again great job!!
ummm.....did someone every tell you your not keeping the right tempo....your kinda just playing the easy stuff fast???? you should really sit down with a metronome
If I had wanted to play it all the same tempo, I would have. :)
But it was just a fun school performance, so I took some artistic liberties. And I played the hard stuff fast too. :) The easy stuff actually went the slowest.
And sometimes its more fun to make music than to play just what's there! Metronomes are great, but they only get you so far when it comes to music.
Metronomes can get you solid as marble... I think... Is solid. Metronomes are really phenominal, I respect you and Regnum looks sick as cats, but Metronomes are easily half of any good musician's music life. I'm a guitarist and I love metronomes :D
8th grade really? well if you were that good in 8th grade thn what are u doin with ur life now? btw that was great. I actually have to play this peice for band placement auditions in collegeso if u were playin in 8th grade that makes me feel a lil bad cuz i'm strugllin
I liked it....thought some bits of it was fantastic. The last variation i feel that the tune didnt come accross that well. I think maybe u were concentrating so much on the double tounging you maybe forgot about how important it is that u hear the tune....i have that same problem ... when it come to the last variation. But hey u still rock!!!! :)
Cue feelings of inferiority 0.o you are AMAZING!
I need help learning how to keep a good tone on high notes...how do you manage to do that? I would die to be able to play like this!!

Great musicality.
I never actually have heard this version of the Carnival. So interesting to hear what you played.
I have the Galaway edited version, and it has like ten variations.
This one seems fun, and you're a great flute player! I'm not going to critique anything because I don't want you to hate me :)

The variation IV. The theme is not prominent.
Should strees the first note of each triplet.

A little bit slower, emphasis on the first note.
