  • Hey what song is this? I really dig the playing man. very inspiring. no joke.

    peace,

    alan

  • @ironweeds Sorry for late reply Alan...This is just an improvised piece.

  • Mate, absolutely sensational!

  • @aerostardtb Thanks a lot aerostardtb!

  • This reminds me a lot of John Lee Hooker...lovin it!

  • @garydupuis Thanks man!

  • awesome - love your playing and great feel

  • Absolutely fantastic playing man. So what is your opinion on the Highway one? Does it sound to fuzzy or not too great with distortion/overdrive? Cause i really like the sound you got out of this but just in general?

  • Hi Diango,I think had the distortion up too high on this plus I was hitting a string I shouldn've....sounds just a bit too for my liking...if you check out other vids you'll hear a better sound, thanks for the nice comment.

  • @daviemcf Your welcome and will do. Thanks a bunch for the reply.

  • I missed a word out Diango8...."sounds just a bit too harsh for my liking"

  • Just one word: amazing, you are a master since a long time ago

  • Thanks very much "V".....and you are a messenger for Rory since a long time ago!! 10,000* for you!!!

  • Beautiful playing... what a great tech!

  • Cheers codeeevil666!!

  • that woz awsome dude

  • Thanks a lot Hanna!!

  • Ain't it amazing what a silly hat can do for your playing! Great stuff man, keep it up!

    Greetings, Peter

  • I've lost my powers since I threw that hat away amlahguitar! : )

    thanks friend!

  • so freakin' awesome!

  • thanks SxEJohnDoe!

  • pretty sweet!

  • Thank you RustedString!

  • Hi there DavieMcF ,bit of advice required please. I thought my higway one tele was the dogs bollocks til i pulled out my 20 year old cheapo korean squier strat outta the cupboard ,put on fresh strings and put it thru a decent amp for the first time. Now my tele fretboard seems so slow and cumbersome in comparisson. Could this be down to my action on the tele being set higher ? or is this down to strats having an inherently faster fretboard than telecasters ? any pointers much appreciated.

  • maple or rosewood fretboards, on the strat and tele if rosewood is on the tele and maples on the strat, theres your answer. rosewoods warmer but slower.maples fast & bright

  • Fan-freakin'-tastic!!!

That was awesome. I'd pay to see you play!

  • That is some comment...thanks pianoman1969!

  • You are one heck of a slide player! WOW! Really diggin' it!

  • Thanks Alicia ! in the not too distant future you're gonna be a big star!!

  • great great great

  • Thank you rhum66,it's much appreciated.

  • DUDE...........You kick ass

  • Thanks a lot pekindons!

  • Excellent! Just beautiful, bravo! I'd like to have an american highway-1 tele one day. But i would like to know if its a good guitar for some heavier rock&blues stuff. Everyone keeps telling me that they are good only for country music and southern rock. Plz help.

  • Look up Rory Gallagher playin"Souped Up Ford"!

    Thanks destihado1.

  • Ive actualy just bought a higway one last month and was wondering what pedal you would recommend getting first , the Blues Driver or the Compression ? i play thru a pretty basic can amp , which i dont wanna change cos its so portable for busking. any advice appreciated there Daviemcf. ta

  • Hi Bono, the compression gives you a clean sustained sound where the Driver gives a smooth distorted sound,in this video I think I've got the dostortion up too high,it's what you prefer, but the two of them go great together.

  • prefer your electric to rory's electirc, although that could be down to the sound quality of the vids avaialble on youtube

  • I'll never beat Rory's sound Bobo, the guy was a one off!!thanks for the comments bro.

  • I don't like the sound here,I think it's a bit too harsh,sore on the old ears!

  • You got a Delta sound at 2:00. I love it.

  • thanks esb369!

  • You rock, hard bro'! Sweet tone and technique the lot!!! Bravo

  • Clearly this man derives all his power from the silly hat! Where can i get one, so i can play like that too.

  • Out of the silly hat shop! lol.

  • Got some groove right there

  • almost reminds me of jimmy page

  • i was just thinking of him...

    Bravo, sei un grande!

  • Thanks danstortion!

  • whats that thing on your finger you use to slide called???

  • Hi Andy, would you believe it's called a slide! or bottleneck.

  • Awsome!

  • Love it.

Damn I have a feeling I may be buying a tele soon. My poor old bank account :(

  • Thanks Moo,don't buy a tele,buy a precision bass! (ha ha)

  • Haha dont tempt me I've been thinking about getting one for a while...but then I love playing slide guitar...but then I want ths and that and argh!

  • what is b bottleneck tuning?

  • Just open tuning, a way of tuning the strings to give a chord (in this case Bb) when they're all played open. Hence, open tuning.

It makes it easier to play with a slide aka a bottleneck :)

  • Thanks Moo!

  • davie If I wanted to come across this tab where would I find it or by what would I call it? The title? nice work too good rhythem!

  • There's no tabs for this SC,just an impro, sorry pal.

  • How much did it cost?

  • 600 dollars s/h in Chicago.

  • were u good when you first started playing?

  • Crap!!!

  • so u were terrible? and did u understand scales at first because my teachers teaching me scales now and there confusing.

  • Mostly play by ear,not into scales!

  • it turns out that you can use a clarinet barrel as a slide.....i do but its kinda weird..

  • mmmmm....must try it Shardedfire.

  • I have a blues driver. and I must say that it is one of my favorite pedals

  • Same here wilziac.

  • Thanks Mrmaniac15765,I'm sure you'll be better than me!!

  • Nevermind: i just watched one of your other vids and u said it wasnt the Texas one, and the finish isnt shiny because its finish is Satin Nitrocellulose . Ps ur a great guitarist i hope im as good as u someday!

  • Is this the Highway One Series Texas Telecaster? And i have another ? are the Highway One's finishes shiny or not because when i went to the GC they werent.

  • how long have you been playing?

  • Since I was knee high!!

  • this is awesome man! seriously i havnt seen many people play with such comitment and passion. love it!

  • Cheers duvetdude!

  • Hey Dave

I needed some bluesin' therapy, and this is the best bottle-neckin blues on You-Tube, I love it to death! Smoking tome from Mr. Tele, and what sounds like a nice Fender amp as well.

Cheers Bro ... I still give it 90 stars!!

  • Thanks Matt, you're too kind brother!

  • Hi,

I wondered if you'd modified that Tele at all,

I was planning on getting a Highway One Tele (when I have enough money), and hearing that lovely bluesy tone you're getting has been another reason to do so, but are those the original pickups?

    Keep playing, you sound awesome!

  • Hi Sam,yeah they're original pick-ups,but I'm also using a Boss Blues Driver pedal.

    Thanks a lot!

  • Okay I'll bear that in mind, thanks for your help

  • Okay I'll bear that in mind, thanks for the info.

  • nice hat....

  • Sounds like The White Stripes to me for some reason and I love it! What blues artists are you into cause I'm obviously not listening to the right stuff!

  • Rory Gallagher!!!! thanks AirHendrix91

  • YOU RULE!

  • We get pretty hung up on gear. Must be a guy thing. How about the fine audio tools we carry on the sides of our skulls? Plus the brain? Emotion? Art? Skill? If ya don't develop these, you're just another wanker with an expensive guitar playing a box scale.

That being slurred, this is a cool video and teles are pretty darn fun.

  • great amp setup. love your style of improv.

  • Nice! HAHA i have the same guitar!!!!!

  • great job, I'm also hearing some Walter Trout in there

  • you rock

  • mean davie****************

  • I Think you should have titled this piece'Scottish Tele Blues In open Bb'. I'm sure I could hear the pipes in your playing there at times.. lol. You can't take the Scots out of the music...And who would want to ?... Brilliant, love It ! ! !

  • I realy like that hat!!!

The guitar is also okay ...

:P Just jokin ,nice bluezin man!

  • i love that telecaster sound

  • i'm a gibson man through and through. your an accomplished player so try it on a les paul standard and it will be perfect!!!

  • that would have ruined the whole tone. you cant get that kind of cut on a gibson. only the tele can do that.

  • no? you get a BETTER tone off the gibson!! you must be a fender man. try it yourself on a gibbo.

  • gibsons have a smoother tone. fenders, teles in particular, have that sharp cutting bright tone that is what makes this whole peice good

  • You can get on the ES series gibsons, espicialy the vintage ones.

  • right ive just nailed this on my 91 les paul. and granted the tele cuts it. but im sorry, the gibson sounds like a fucking nuclear bomb whilst licking this, where as the fender sounds like a firework!! regards. ;-)

  • totally agree with you jimg. every self respecting guitarist knows that gibson rules! i have a 92 les paul. we have good years my friend. ;-]

  • I love the brown sunburst finish.

teles sound good in bottleneck because the tele bassicaly has the same schematics as a lap steel guitar

  • I love it. I have the exact same guitar but I've never really tried playing slide. Really makes me want to try some slide tuned stuff when I hear that tone.

  • Hey Andrew,if your trying slide, remember to raise the strings a little and change gauge to maybe 11's or 12's.

Open G is a fave slide tuning from low E

    D G D G B D.

  • only jokeing 10 stars wicked man

  • Hey scarybobtwat,thanks a lot man!!

  • 5 stars

  • really good playing, nice tele :)

  • thanks alibork.

  • that is great playing...I enjoyed it BUT, you know when they say "go shit in your hat"......well, that is the sort of hat to which they refer.

  • lol..I've already done it!!!!

    thanks Brian!

  • seems like going straight in from the tele to the twin would yield a better tone

  • It just depends how I feel at the time gm63mm.

Sometimes I do play it clean, thanks for your comment bro.

  • well, i meant that, but i also was referring to the dynamics etc.

but that's not you, that's digital encoding, the mics, etc.

pretty awesome playing btw, is this a song, or just improv?

  • just an impro gm63mm.

  • Hey, did you tune up for the Bb or down, then put on capo? If you can, I would like to have the notes...

By the way, AMAZING sound with that slide.

  • hi TastyMetal, detune both E strings to D and detune A to G,that gives you open G then capo 3rd fret to give you open Bb.

  • actually this is more than brilliant - it's authentic blues - spontaneous, just a guy playing and digging it -

  • Thanks a lot Hugh, you're too kind brother!

  • brilliant - great tone too

  • some funky shit you got going on there ..... i mean that in a nice way : )

  • Thanks Kev!

  • wow, super cool sliding. Just tried tonight, it was lame and I was looking for a video to get some ideas, found yours and I guess I have some work to do :)

  • thanks sha4096 and good luck with the slide!

  • love the hat... and the playing!!

  • thanks Bob,but hate the f*****g hat!!!

  • cool , nice playing and sound

  • sounds like rory with a twist of lemon! cheers dave

  • Thanks K-EYE!!

  • hi i don play much time guitar. And i want to know what a difference has a tele from a strat and a les paul. PLEASE someone ;)

  • really nice playing! but jedirkeds is right about your feedback - problem! i got a highway one strat in honey blonde with a maple neck which sounds awsome! i love the highway 1's

  • just awsome!!! did u improvise that?

  • Yeah I did Gu1t4rf4n,probably will never be able to play it again, Ha! Ha!

  • youve got alot of feedback... or is that your slide hitting the string?turn down your volume to get the feedback off of there, eitherwise NICE PLAYING!!!

  • OK mate!!

  • I love your style davie..you are one of my inpirations to keep playing :) thanks..kevin

  • What a nice compliment! cheers Kevin, and keep postin' bro!!

  • No probs, nice playing by the way.

  • I was told they are put together in mexico? Americans parts though? Correct me if I am wrong.

  • Not sure 1337leo but thanks for the info friend.

  • dude that is great! im loving that tele twang!

  • Thanks Korey,it's much appreciated pal.

  • Nice Job. I'm actually looking at buying an American Tele exactlly like that pretty soon. What do you think of it, and what do you play it through?

  • Hi Jonboss, this is a Highway One tele,it's supposed to be made in USA but some of the parts may be mexican,I didn't know of these guitars at the time of buying, doesn't say on headstock,it cost 600dollars in Chicago.I quite like this guitar,I use Boss compression pedal and Boss Blues driver pedal thru a '78 Fender twin reverb.

  • This is so good. You are so talented Davieboy! :)

  • You're too kind Billyboy!!

  • Sawweeeeeeet!

  • Thanks Matt, keep some stars for other guys buddy!!

Looking forward to your next vid.

  • got my head bobbin there bro

  • Don't get a headache Dave! :) thanks bud.

  • really great playing..i currently play an old yamaha, so i'm in the market and looking at teles. i want to see a demo with so distortion. by now i love the sound of them clean or witha little crunhc, but i'm curious as to how they sound with some heavy distortion.

  • Some people dont like that little hum of the single coil, I personally dig the hell out of it, sounds like raw power to me. And then you cut in with them bad ass licks. Damn man you know your Blues!! I knew Id find another jewel in your treasure chest of blues.

  • Jerry man,I just dig your comments, keep postin bro!!!

  • sound nice and sweet, i like a telecaster

  • Thank you kraven1978.

  • This is sweet man, I really want to learn how to play slide. I love blues, but I was just wondering whether or not that's just a standard American tele or a deluxe or custom or whatever, because the next guitar I'm getting is definantly gonna be a Telecaster. Keep up with the awesome work man!

  • This is a Highway One tele matts, although it's made in USA,I think some of the parts are Mexican,I bought it in Chicago for 600 dollars, thanks for comment. :)

  • Loved it. I play blues too & have been meaning to start playing slide for a while. The intro sounded like 'Loanshark Blues' by Rory Gallagher. Keep it up!

  • Thanks nodesignforlife,I'm thinkin' of postin' a few Rory riffs very soon and "Loanshark Blues" will be one of them, thanks again bro'.

  • I can hear Rory Gallagher (RIP)

  • Great compliment,thanks Donegaldan.
