  • is that a guy?

  • Every body should check out TheTurtleTimes. He has a great care video. Thanks.

  • ummmmm, you can't use that everyday it can make the turtle sick. And I feed my turtle fish oil, she dos not like it so I just use a shot, fill it up with fish oil and inject it in her food. she eats it without knowing

  • @FreshTanks do you put a soaking area in it for them ?? and is that area suppose to stay warm too ??

  • now i know that turtle eat superworm. i got turtle and superworm too check my upload

  • @dinosuar11030 If you can't take care of it, give it to someone else. My general rule is if I can't get an animal to eat or drink on the third day I let it go(as in put it back) or give it back to the store or person I got it from.

  • If you want to learn more about box turtles, try Tess Cook's box turtle website. This is not a good set-up for a box turtle, and meal worms are not the best food for a box turtle.

  • @dinosuar11030 well you should feed i feed mine some greens with carrots and apples and some meal worms and i put a vitamin supplement called repti-cal on it and i use a 5.0 uvb bulb (for vitamin d) and a 60 watt bulb (for heat) i have a shallow dish of water that she can get into easily and won't drown and for the substrate would use something she/he can burrow into like repti-bark i would also recommend a hide like a half log. if ur mom caught it in the wild i would put it back

  • @dinosuar11030 u dont feed box turtles bread... maybe you should have done some research BEFORE you got one

  • Hello. PLease reply anyone.

My turtle is yellow. its brown and yellow is that bad it has like brown and yellow spots.

Also my turtles eyes are red, are there any eyedrops for turtles or anything.

    And last question.

What are those things on the right. Are they plants for decoration or does the turtle eat them?

  • @DBDshow12 no all turtkesshould have like spots and stuff,... i think and when turtles have red eyes that means its a boy and girls have brown eyes.....no i dont htink there is such thing as turtle eye drops and ya those look like their decorarion around the soaking area cuz it ook like there is a rock bowl there

  • @dinosuar11030

Turtles don't eat bread. Feed it vegetables, fruit, and insects.

  • anyone know the sheet you use at bottom of your uv light lamp and tank cover?what is it a paper or sheet

  • anyone know the sheet you use at bottom of your uv light lamp and tank cover?

  • @jondacajondaca they do just put a little water in the tank or wat u have them in

  • acting like an expert, but she doesn't have an area for the turtle to soak in....shame..

  • @GolfinMySoxOff Ya.... Expert Village sucks!!!!

  • @GolfinMySoxOff It's a Tortoise! :) Not a Turtle. But to shame, you must always have a spot for a Tortoise to soak.

  • @GolfinMySoxOff stupid she does its right next to the food dish duh :p

  • @TheSnakelover123 stop makin fun of a woman

  • @GolfinMySoxOff cuz an eastern box turtle cant swim and if all of u people are going to say bad stuff about the video the dont watch the video wat do u do look 4 videos to say bad stuff about them

  • @GolfinMySoxOff I am a box turtle expert at 90+ years. and i feed my box turtles lard and lye soap. They love it, and they love me. I AM A 120 YEAR OLD MAN WITH A SERIOUS APPETITE FOR BOX TURTLES AND YAMS. Luve em!

  • cool video!

that tank looks too small for that size box turtle, hope its just for the video

  • A few days ago i caught a box turtle and i don't know how to make it eat. The only time i made it eat was when i opened it's mouth myself and put a worm in there (it was my only choice.) How can i make it eat?

  • @DuckzOnQuack you ld t it back in the same area you found it or within a mile of that area. Wild turtle that are out into captivity, usually don't survive to long due to stress.

  • @ArtistZamira i did

  • Nice video with good information, I live in coastal North Carolina and a box turtle has built a nest by the veggie garden, I think she will lay eggs and I wanted to know what to feed her , so per you a veggie salad mix is good, plus a source of water, I can do that, she is wild so I have not touched her but she looks good, is there anything more I should do to help her???

  • @chippythedog she said during the end she using carpet O.o while she feed the worms. so it dont burrow under and hide

  • what are you using as bedding

  • Isn't that aquarium not big enough for that size Box Turtle?

  • NO CITRUS FRUITS-no oranges, pineapples, nothing in that family. I put mine out in a pen in the spring time, I don't hibernate them (up for debate as to whether that's healthy or not) but contrary to popular belief, males are still fertile if not hibernated. I have babies to prove it. :o) I've had my female 3toed boxie 20 years this August and my male 19 years. I kept two of the sons and had to give the others up for adoption to the GCTTS.

  • I tend to go to the store and buy one of whatever they have there at any given time-apple, pear, zucchini squash, snow peas, apricots, peaches, raw carrot, cucumber, yellow squash....then chop them into tiny tiny pieces (or in a food processor) and they eat it like it's going out of style. They also love the bait worms that are huge, I guess that's the same as your worms. Their appetite picks up in summer so they eat ravenously while in winter it's dialed back quite a bit.

  • Im doing reasearch on box turtles and i got a question do box turtles like water

  • @Wiiremote6 yes

  • im thinking buying a box and russian turtle but i want to know how much do they grow expample in 2 months each of them , i really dont like big turtles they scare me

  • I own a Three Toe Box and Russian

both are around 5" and mostly grown.

The box turtle is a gruesome eater and loves the insects and meat. Can move much faster and require a wetter environment.

The Russian is slower and a vegetarian, so easy to keep well fed. They generally will approach you seeking food which makes it pretty cool, but the box does that to, all be it at a much faster pace.

    However, I give the Russian a 9/10 and the box a 8/10.

Good luck, they are both great.

  • how much are these? where do youget them?

  • how many gallons is that tank?

  • It looks like a 20 gallon "long' tank - way too small for a box turtle. Try Tess Cook's box turtle site or book if you want to learn more.

  • thanks for the advice

  • Hey,, YouTube'ers ,,, I wish to Purchase a Box-Turtle ??? Seller's- or - Advice ??? (Seriously)...ziggy :)

  • thanks for the vid! i JUST got a box turtle and i needed to know how to take care of it. you really helped!

  • never use iceberg lettuce alone it has no nutrition, ok to mix in with other stuff for it's water content

  • HY I WANTED TO ASK YO IF YOU COULD SHOW ME YOUR BOX TURTLE =) y mother in law found one walking on the street and i think is abox turtle, she gave it to me and i need to compare

  • nonono

  • can box turtle live in water?

  • They like to have a small area of water but not full water. If you're looking for a basically full aquatic turtle look into Red Eared Sliders.

  • NOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    they are land turtles

  • No Box turtles will drown in water

  • no box turtles are semi aquatic.

  • my box turtle she will eat worms, slugs, mill worms, beatles, grapes, peaches, tomatoes, cherrys, strawberrys, cucumbers and carrots i love my roxy i've had her since she was the size of a half dollar. she's 2 years allmost three you can find the food they eat at a pet store so the guy below me knows. and it might not eat cuz it dont like what your givin it mine wont eat cabbage or radishes.

  • mine likes plain white rice and scrammbled eggs plain. And cricket for the chase !!

  • There is a good monograph about ornates called, Natural History of the Ornate Box Turtle, Terrapene ornata ornata Agassiz by John M. Legler. I think you will like it since it talks about the natural history of these turtles and that is what we pet owners should strive to give our reptile pets. Even zoos have learned that much, and are now trying to give their animals natural enclosures.

  • Please buy the new book about box turtles by TFH Publications because you are not giving adequate advice and the housing is not set up right for box turtles-even for the ornate, which it looks like you have. They still need moisture. Ornates are mainly insectivous, as she has been trying to tell you :) They eat crickets, grasshoppers, beetles and other types of insects, plus carrion, protein rich desert plants, flowers and fallen fruits.

  • Maybe the lady should eat some of the things her box turtle eats?

  • My box turtle will not eat, and I do not know why? He likes to push his little hiding place into water and sit there almost all day and doesn't eat any vaggies that I give him? Where do you find those worms?

  • I have one that does not like veges either, but he will eat berries. Some pet stores carry the mealie worms and king worms. They can also eat crickets (grasshoppers), flies, worms.

  • hey i have a male three toed box turtle and its realy colorful it has orange eyes its realy cool

  • what foods shouldnt you give a box turtle

  • how sad its in a tank .... i thought this lady knew what she was talking about till i say the turtle in the tank

  • Turtles can go on tanks. As long as the sides are covered the same with corn snakes. and the tank is large

  • u say it needs 2 be outside im getting 1 from a friend and its lived in cage for 5 years where i live i couldnt make a outdoor thing but if i let it roam in my house during day is that ok? i know nothing about them please message me

  • Mine walks around the house. You just have to make sure you watch where you step! They will find a cool, dark place to hide and sometimes it takes a while to find them!

  • how can I convince my box turtle to eat vegetables?

    any ideas?

  • yea... always give them vegatables... always put them, in the tank .... they will eventually will eat it i had the same problem 6 months ago

  • Wow - fish tanks are really bad for box turtles. They need to be kept outdoors. They can be kept alive in a fish tank, but they thrive outdoors. How sad.

  • Depends where a person lives, duh! In my climate they would die outside. Mine walks around the house and gets plenty of exercise.

  • Where can i get a box turtle in Missisauga, Ontario ?

  • dang that isnt rite to much vitomens jeez! yes u can over do it

  • so you feed them worms because i caught two of them in the woods

  • Hey any one know where i can buy a box turtle in the UK?

  • went u find somewhere tell me lol

  • is that like a 25 gallon tank?

  • LADY..... do something else

WTF that tank is just too small for that turtle .......

  • How ignorant. Box Turtles don't need all kinds of space.

  • Actually everything needs space so yes they do.

  • That tank is WAY too small for that poor turtle! The best way to keep Box Turtles is in an outdoor enclosure.

  • LADY.... box turtles are omnivores geese

  • Are you an idiot? She clearly explained that.

  • Dosent she need water?

  • I uploaded a video of my turtle... can you help?

  • lady, you are clearly no expert--box turtles are NEVER supposed to live in a tank..if you need to keep them in something, they make wire/cork cages to be put outdoors

  • Why can't they live in a tank?

  • they can, it should be large though, and make sure the botten edges are not see through or the turtle will continue to try to walk through the glass.

  • go on u tube n write rottweiler cross bullmasstif and clik on sasha

  • do box turtles need a swimming area?

  • yes! at least something large enough for them to fit into.

  • they should be fed crickets or silkworms instead of mealworms and should be fed more meat than veggies or fruit.about 40% plants, 60% meats.

also, does it have a uvb bulb?

  • What about pebels mixed with cypress bedding?

  • it's too hard to burrow burrow in that but you could mix cypress bedding with organic potting soil.

  • 2. it has a high chance of causing impaction to the intestines, which it will eventually die from, or the sand will wear out the intestines, even if it does pass through, so it will be shortening the life of your box turtle. it cannot dig a burrow in the sand, or even dig into the substrate because it is so thin (looks like hardly even an inch deep)

fourth,mealworms/superworms/kingworms have a bad phosphorus:calcium ratio so they should only be fed occasionally. ornates are omnivorous.

  • third, this type of box turtle is an ornate. ornate box turtles require a medium to high humidity enclosure.

they also require a diggable substrate like moist organic potting soil or ecoearth/bedabeast. Sand is an EXTREMELY bad substrate for turtles because, 1. it doesn't hold much humidity at all.

  • wow that's a completely wrong setup!!!

first, they need a water bowl to fully submerge in.

second, glass is very bad for any tortoise or box turtle. it should either be on an outside enclosure, kiddie pool, fenced off area, or wooden enclosure ie tortoise table (but not pine or cedar due to their bad oils that can cause problems to the tortoise or box turtle)

that aquarium is also very small for any box turtle. only hatchlings can be kept in a glass tank until they get to a few inches.

  • Hey Budguy68, the lady or the turtle?

  • I'd hit that

  • the need half water half land atleast 6inches of water

  • Not for a box turtle - they're not the best of swimmers. A soaking pan is OK indoors.

  • why carpet and not wood chips?
