  • I like those nifty turtlenecks the sailors wore.

  • Wieland1985 Yes I would agree that there must be a strong blood tie between Germany and certainly a good part of Britain. Such a pity that both countries fought each other to a standstill twice in the last century. My late Father played in a military band when he was a young man and British masching music has been strongly influenced by Austro German music.

  • this just goes to show you not all german soligers were bad

  • I saw this film a couple days ago...AMAZING FILM! Love the intro with the Erika song

  • Leave it to the Germans, to take a spring love song, and make it sound totally badass. lol

  • This was a gripping WW2 escape film and the singing of Erika in the introduction sets the whole mood of whats to follow.

I don't know why but German marching songs give me goosepimpels on my face - I must have some teutonic blood in me

  • @themoonspinners maybe. Half of Britons have German blood ;-)

  • Great Reikland battle song. We Kislevites are noted for our soul-stirring battle hymns, but the Reiklanders have this and the "Panzerlied" which in my opinion, are the most inspiring music our two empires ever produced. Chaos doesn't stand a chance!!!

  • i would like to find out what they singing in english

  • @tunastrike11 Its on wiki :)

  • @tunastrike11 Look for this information in Wikipedia under Erika (song). I had been looking for the lyrics to this song for years and now I can sleep at night. Hope this info was helpful. Byt the lyrics are in German and English.

  • i would like to find the words to this song

  • The song is overwhelming, I loved the movie also.

  • The scene has nothing to do about comradeship, except in the sense of gearing up for battle. The scene was about casting the the German POWs as the 'bad guys.' And if you don't believe the Nazis were evil, incompetent and ultimately destructive to Germany and the world in general, than calling you a Jackass would be inadequate. Call yourself a 'victor,' because this conversation is at an end.

  • @Hassar100 Yeah, yeah, and I guess you believe that the men who dropped the atomic bomb on innocent women and children are "angels". They murdered tens on thousands of innocents and you don't think they're evil. Yeah, genius mindset you have there, jackass. You're just another self-righteous hypocrite who can't back up anything he says. All you can do is wave your damn flag around and pretend your country saved the world. Freak.

  • @TeutonicKnight39 yanks are just arrogant wankers-i hate them

Auf der Heide blüht ein kleines Blümelein und das heißt Erika......

On the heath a little flower blooms and it's called: Erika.........

  • @TeutonicKnight39 Hey bro, if Japan, Socialist Italy or the Third Reich had the opportunity to drop an Atomic Bomb on America first, they wouldn't bat an eye. War is the pits and hard decisions have to be made. In America we say; "Hind sight is 20/20." In my opinion, dropping the atomic bomb for my country was a "damned if you do and damned if you don't " situation. A lawmaking body, a head of state and a state sponsored military have an obligation to protect it's national security. Be well.

  • @dockreth Your opinion is based on bad information my friend. Germany DID have the atomic bomb, but Hitler told his generals that he wouldn't allow it to be used except in the worse case scenario. The only reason you don't believe that is because if you admitted Germany had the atomic bomb, you would have to admit that what you believe in terms of Nazi Germany being evil is wrong. SInce you won't admit you've been wrong all this time, you don't care about finding the truth

  • @TeutonicKnight39 Okay?

  • @TeutonicKnight39 What are you talking about? I never said that Nazi Germany never had the atomic bomb. There is no "unclassified" information supporting that. Through my studies, I do know that they had the scientific "know how" and capabilites to procure an atomic bomb. On another note, I will say that state sponsored genocide on the part of the Nazi Party was very evil. I feel displacing, condeming and MURDERING millions of Jews in concentration camps was VERY EVIL!!!!!!

  • I guess it doesn't matter that the song predates the rise of the Nazi party?

  • It's ironic that a song about a girl named "Erika," can be turned into such an ominous marching song. Still this version is my favorite.

  • @Hassar100 Ominous? What the hell is that supposed to mean? There's nothing evil about soldiers using a song to form a basis of comradeship. If it was Americans singing it you wouldn't think anything about it. Jackass.

  • @TeutonicKnight39 Well, regardless what the song is about, it is a march. It is being sung as an active of defiance and the theatrical intent of the director is that it is threatening and a prelude to violence.. Nazis are generally considered evil. so anything they sing is usually regarded as such. Remember that the Soviets did to Madenburg Castle HERR TEUTONIC KNIGHT,

  • @Hassar100 Yes, generally considered "evil" by people who regard ignorance as a virtue. Isn't it against American principle to judge everyone for the sake of a few? What you're saying is that since there were a "few" Jews that were violent, the Germans were right to imprison ALL Jews. There were a "few" Nazis that were violent so that means they "all" were? Obvious hypocrisy is never a wise choice my friend.

  • Great movie> Luckily it was make just before the death of good films. Now a movie is rated good or bad by counting the number and size of explosions in the film and screw the story.

I also loved the very nice version of Erika sang by the prisoners in the opening of the film.

Anyone know where I might find a newer version of the song? All I can ever find are 60 year old tinny sounding versions.

I'm sure Herr Flick would approve but I like good bass and deep baritones.

  • This is an outstanding war movie that hasn't garnered the attention that it deserves. It's a great plot. The character developments are very good. I love the way they created the element of mystery by not providing subtitles for the German dialogue. The Uboatmen arrogantly singing Erika constitutes a flagrant defiant challenge. Great drama.

  • Just watched this film. Seriously underrated war film. Good story and well worth watching.

  • Well Willi it looks like we are both in the shit!

  • Und das heist. ERIKA!

  • The song they are singing is called "Erika. love this film.

  • I like this song

  • EXCELLENT FILM...
