  • this is the only silent hill game that can be realistic if you try to analyze it cheryl is suffering from a mental disorder and lives in her fantasy world and many people in reality who have mental illness retreats to their fantasy world too in short this game brings us to how people with psycho problem views the world.

  • If you expect the game to be "realistic" then take out ALL of the monsters.

There are no such things as demons walking around in a town called silent hill.

  • i have to agree with you on the flawed battle systems i mean i remember going at least half way through SH2 with just a lead pipe and getting by fine

  • @zayn2123

thats why it's called survival horror :P

  • Comment removed

  • You really expect Silent Hill to be realistic?!...

  • me personally, i like the run down rustic look. it might actually make it scarier, but thats my opinion

  • Clock Tower's gameplay was totally immersive and addictive (despite obvious flaws), wich made it a cool different game. I can't wait to have SHSM in my hands. And think of this: we're talking about a town that feeds on people's fears and sins... weapons won't make a difference in hell.

  • its not abt reimagining, its about diff perception from another character's pov. SH1 was Harry's pov. i dont want 2 spoil it 4 others, but those who've already played the game / know the climax will understand what i'm trying to say. what if all of the SHseries until this point of time were a figament of someone's imagination? and actually not being able to fight off the demons actually represents how helpless the character feels. u have to finish the game to understand it. this is the begining.

  • i also like the ice-theme. the ice sort of represents the coldness of the protagonist's heart. how he/she could have turned his/her heart cold after a loss of loved one. oh amidst all this we forgot one vital info -Harry's death in SH3. hmmm, whats with that? SHSM is a game that will make u want to put on your thinking caps.

  • I agree with the ice theme. Ice itself can be a great preserver, a barrier. Hell, ice can kinda make you feel isolated.

  • i just wish it was out for the ps3 dammit

  • What's stopping you getting the PS2 version?

  • I like this and hope the game is aswome when i gt to play it however this whole non combat hide and run tactic is not origianl. I belive the Clocktower gmaes foucusted on this too. That being said with this being on a next gen consle this could be a very scary game

  • They don't create games to participate in this imaginary originality contest you know. I don't remember ever playing a game because it was the first to do something a bit different.

  • moreover, silent hill is psychological horror first, even with the earlier series, secondly a survival game. bcoz there u play the game in Alessa's mind -her fears, frustrations, anger, vengeance . here u r playin out ur own mind. so idk, how this series is different from the others, in its main concept of ticking on ur mind. if u believe that there are phobias that u cant shed off, then this series is a great deliverance.

  • if u like psychological horror - a game that delves into the inner workings of ur mind n hr8, then this is the game. speaking of fighting the enemies, u can fight something u see (a physical embodiment) but the real fight is when u fight the unseen n u knw that u cant run/hide from or fight it. the inner fears that would simply not go away or u never knew existed. so if u restrict ur likin for kicking n punching then this is not the game 4 ya. i love this. sumtimes it pays 2hav an open mind.

  • But the thing is, how do you "reimagine" A storyline that is what really made the Silent Hill franchise? I'm a true fan of the first four games. Didn't like Origins, didn't like Homecoming. The gameplay might not be the best, but let's face it, what gameplay was available several years ago? They did the best with what the technology had to offer. I will never play Shattered memories. I am a detail freak. If it alters in details too much from the original, it drives me insane

  • Furthermore, the idea behind not being able to fight simply is not realistic. Okay, perhaps I wouldn't instinctly go bash in some heads with a steel pipe, but I wouldn't leave whatever room I was in without some sort of makeshift weapon. If I had to, I'd tote a metal chair with me all through the town. If something came in the room and I had to either fight or hide, I'd dangwell try and kick its ass, or die trying. Especially if my main goal was finding my daughter, like Harry Mason.

  • True1!

  • i liked all hill games apart from the 4th,origins and 3rd are best, hevent played hopmecomeing, i agree with everything every thing else.

  • You got some good opinions buddy.

  • I agree completely with the video except for, I think, the icy theme. It never boded too well for me because the game was snowing anyways, so it seems more like a weird weather pattern than a shift to the alternate reality of the Otherworld.

The bloody and rundown look of the Otherworld would get old over a span of seven games, sure, but it's always had its own unique look each game. It's one thing about Silent Hill I don't want them to throw away completely, visually.

  • but good impressions

  • I haven't yet played any of the Silent Hills, so Shattered Memories will be my first. I'm quite excited for its release. But I'm not sure about the elimination of combat in the game. When it comes to survival most people are not going to run away, nor try stay to fight. It's (probably) split 50/50. Even if they don't have the necessary training as a combat specialist. Not giving the players the options to fight will increase the element of fright in the game making it more fun, but annoying too.

  • i totally agree with everything said in this video.

  • I never finished 4, and I haven't even played 5 through fear of how bad it'll be, but I might pick this up on ps2. origins I have just atrted on but i've just about cleared te hispital, the story is weak and the other problem is that the otherworld moments aren't pemediated, you can flip between the normal world and the otherworld by the uise of mirrors, very anti silent hill. Wasn't PH in 5 which is another reason I avoided it. I want more freakish moments, remember the mirror room in 3? scary!

  • when i saw the demo something said to me "this is silent hill" and i belive this is going to be a good game because it have everything that make silent hill a good saga, about the action i belive it will be something because if you are in a place full of ai monsters following you, at least you can take a pice of wood and star to hit monsters like crazy, finally i like the tits of cibyl benned of this game

  • i believe all the hardcore SH fans are complaining to complain, they just dont wanna believe they might do it

now im skeptical they will, but i hope they do because the trailer looked RLY good i liked the new scenery (ice can be scary believe me get lost in the winter) and running makes you feel helpless and wondering when they will come next

i honestly believe this might work and i would personally run too =]

  • about alessa and fire, this is a re-imagining, so maybe alessa doesn't die in a fire in shattered memories. We haven't even heard word of alessa even existing in this game yet. Also I think it's based on harry's nightmare rather than alessas.. it's almost like Harry is afraid that cheryl is out in the cold somewhere and he is worried that he failed to protect her and she'll freeze to death in the snow. Just an idea

  • ugh i just hope if you get bit by the monster, you DONT turn into those monsters otherwise, why bother playing

  • I agree with you all the way on this except I think origins was "ok" and thats it, yeah not too original and the butcher was just a copy of our beloved PH but I admit I didnt expect him to just run up at me like that lol, quitte a shocker.(btw ur right, you cant call yourself a Silent Hill fan and not know who PH is, its just blaspohmy lol)

  • well, technically this isnt the first SH on Nintendo. Havent you heard of that one for the GBA? lmao but i can see why you didnt mention it anyways

  • Okay I thought about it and I have changed my mind. I want Shattered Memories. I think this one is gonna be good. The more I think about it, more I see that this will be a game that even though you beat it, it won't ever play the same twice because it will change according to the player. Plus, in SH2 when you are forced to put away all your weapons made that part VERY scary to me. Anyway, I think I'm getting excited for this installment.

  • These games also lose the scare when you can play through them multiple times and get new weapons or know where they all are. You can just spam and kill everything( homecoming space gun.) I think running, fear, and paranoia are much more effective.

  • Good point.

  • Its seems all the silent hill "masters" who want the combat to be here might be a little hypocritical. Anyone I know who has played through the old silent hill games multiple times only fight the monsters they need to and run past the rest.

  • pyramid head should only be in silent hill 2 putting him in other silent hill games is stupid he is there for james sexual tension

same with the nurses they are there becouse of mary dieng in hospital

  • Its the same way with Travis and the Butcher

  • travis is the butcher

  • Actually Pyramid Head is James' guilt and inward feelings towards himself feeling like he deserves to die for what happened. That's why Pyramid Head is similar in appearance and performance to an executioner. He's not an 'enemy' or 'evil', he's carrying out a sentence.

Which is why PH could only be 'killed' when James felt he truly redeemed himself, or rather, understood he was not to blame.

But you are right. PH is a personalized representation of James' guilt and should only appear in SH2.

  • the butcher was suposed to be the characters fear of the smae demon thought the james had. like with books, people reads books and most oif the time yopu picture the characters different than what somebody else sees. same idea or concept. thats why certain asspects of pyramid head were seen and some were replaced with different ideas.

  • Seriously I just got into Silent hill, and the first character I learned about is Piramid head. I agree with you on the "no fight" policy, I know Jeet kun do and if I saw those things I would run like madness. Maby also the choices you pick in the inteview has a choice. Winter looks better as it is a lot different so I'm a lot like you on the ideas. I hope to get this to though I should also play the others as I only saw what my uncle did on two.

  • well, i disagree, the fighting didn't bother me in Silent Hill games. I liked shooting the monsters. Yes, running from the monsters is more realistic, but at the same time it seems a bit boring for a game. Also, if we are talking realism here, then if I should run from the monsters, then the monsters would REALLY hurt me. So far, it just looks like the monsters hug you. There should be blood, biting and stuff. I hope the monsters get scarier. Plus they should give the option of melees.

  • But Fire is a major part of Silent Hill. Because Alessa was burned in the fire...so...why is it ice? Hmmm, I'm really excited and somewhat scared to see this game played out

  • Though Alessa may have been burned in fire, only her otherworld was fire, as everybody sees Silent Hill differently, and even though it is still Harry, it's also supposed to be a sort of parallel universe type of thing from what I understand from an interview.

  • Ooh, okay. Thank you. I just assumed that everyone saw Silent Hill as some kind of hellish area complete with fire and brimstone. (Based on Alessa and Angela Orosco's view of Silent hill)

  • I will admit, the way you explained the fact that you will not be as you call the hunter; attacking monsters whenever they show up, but you are the hunted, you don't fight back. Althougth you're right. They should have at least one or two occasions where you have no choice but to fight back. I do understand that they're taking this into a new perspective, a different adaptation, but that can be very tricky. This could end disasterously.

  • I don't mind not being the dominate one in situations but no combat even as I become more re insured is still a concern. If we are going to be doing escape and evasion, I want to be able to hide in the shadows, turn my flashlight off and move slowly away from them. I believe it is slightly concerning story wise, because Harry is despreatly searching for Cheryl. At least in the original it was the reason why he fought enemies, has he was going to rescue his kid at all cost.

  • Continued. He is breaking and entering places which I don't believe normal people tend to do. I guess it seems to me that if he is confident in breaking and entering that he would be willing to do some minor fighting even if it's not Kung-fu. Some basic thrashing that stuns and knocks them die. What ever happens I'm interested and I hope it will be great.

  • The end could be disasterous, but it could be amazing as well. I like that Climax has the balls to try something so risky.

  • I have to hand it to them. Either this will be good, or terrible. Pretty much when SH got handed over to Double Helix (and once to Climax), and when I played SH:H, I'm trying not to get my hopes up for another mind-effing, earth shattering Silent Hill game like the previous ones where...except for 4. Back to this game, they are getting back to the idea of feeling isolated, which is good. However, what I've seen of the monsters to be faced...I'm not impressed. I hope there's more to it then that.

  • i hope its free roaming or the level and eniviroment changes like different places u can go the way u play it or what u do or how many times u finish it

  • sorry my friend was on my account trying to make people mad i am sorry for the inconvenience

  • Found out that they allow you to throw enemies off of yourself. I dont know if that is enough of a self-defense concept that you are thinking of.

  • I can't wait for this one. I love the fact that there is no combat. It reminds me of Siren where you were actually afraid for your life because you had to run. I also love the fact that the game's environment will change based on what you do psychologically. That is the actual meaning of Silent Hill. Its a reflection of the character, or in this game's case, the player. I feel if done right, this might become what Silent Hill would have been if budget allowed back when the game was conceived.

  • But they don't have their hands all over it. They just got it on their console.

  • im a big SH fan too, my initial reaction was "oh-no, the silent hill franchise is gonna die after this comes out." but ive been reading and watching some details on this new project and im starting to feel reaaly good about this new direction its going. im actually excited for the day i can get a copy of this and dive into it. why do games have to have to repeat the tried and ture method for it to be good. it would be shocking if they out-do the orginal but im starting to feel that way.

  • It remains to be seen how well this game will go.. i dislike no fighting back.. but still it cant be too bad.

It is a retelling by the way.. its similar yet different... its like telling the story over but differently.

Why i would fight them off?

Cause in RL i would fight them off... WTF?

If i see something freaky im going to attack the damn thing..

I like fighting back.. cause i would fight back in real life..

  • Even against something stronger AND faster than you? Saying something is a hell of a lot different than actually doing it you know...

  • I'm disappointed. I've been waiting on a fresh new story not a re-imagined game. I've played survival horrors in the pasted and I do love them. Clock Tower 3 was my absolute favor. the new game mechanics for this franchise will def be a great improvement. but I'm not happy with the "Frozen waste land" them for this. the iconic bloody, rusted, worn down industrialized warehouse, boiler room style made SH what it is. I don't want it to be changed :(((( aaaaah!

  • There is nothing like the original...You people can thumbs down me ALL you like.

  • gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

  • the reason why i think this game is going to be good is because there is no combat so they have more time to focus on the story and atmosphere. its going to be like clock tower. to survive you have to hide. thats what made clock tower scary at first

  • I liked Silent Hill Origins..also the butcher didn't rape his victims like pyramid head...he riped them apart butchering them...he was similar to PH...but not

  • The only so called "weapon" is a flare gun.

  • Dude, you're right. The whole thing surrounding the Butcher v. Pyramid head was so stupid and unoriginal. Do you think they'll reimagine Silent Hill 2? 3? Maybe 4? Or even Origins?

  • if this sells good than they probably will

  • I saw in an interview on a Silent Hill website/forum that they really doubted people would want them to reimagine possible the most popular SH game of all time (refering to 2).

  • there was a silent hill on gameboy advance kid that was a nintendo format i think kid google it

  • I think it was on the Gameboy Color and it was called Silent Hill: Play Novel.

  • This Game Is Going To Be AWSOME!!!!

By the way its on: Wii, PSP, and PS2.

I Read About The Game In GameInformer Magazine.

Im sick of seeing Pyramid Head in every Silent Hill game, hopefully this is going to be WAY Different!

  • Why?

  • Um, pyramid head didn't rape nurses, he just tortured and killed the "lying figure" and "mannequin", sorry.... But anyways, I totally agree with you! Well, except I think they should bring back the dark and rustic "Otherworld".... I'm gonna miss that!

  • He raped a mannequin.

  • No, he just tortured it. The lying figure scene was like, borderline rape, but I don't think it was actual rape.

  • dude they were both rape

  • I agree with you in so many ways! I really hope it goes back to the nature of just good old fashion survival horror and NOT the typical shooting a gun as you make your way from point A to B... like in homecoming. I could really see they had stopped trying after SH3 because in SH3 it seemed that the story and game play was rushed. SH4 gave me hope that they finally did something fresh and original. Homecoming killed it for me. Like you, I hope to see new things with the touch of the original.

  • i'm a true fan of the silent hill franchise no matter what i think for the most part i think Shattered Memories will be a great game i love all the silent hill games, movies (ganna love the second one), comics, etc.

  • theres a comic of silent hill? seriously?

  • duh whereve you been

  • The whole Ice/snow "nightmare" world theme really turns me off. It's supposed to be a frightening/disturbing transition and i dont see myself becoming scared of ice or snow. I just don't see how they can pull it off as being scary seeing as how blue itself is a calming color.

The whole thing to me just seems like a ploy to curb the violence/disturbing imagery in hopes of a Teen rating.

I could be completely wrong, but given the info at this time it seems likely.

  • No, Climax is not trying to dumb it down. They fully plan on Shattered Memories to be rated M.

  • Well i feel that shattered memories will be a good game and if they make the psychology thing work it might end up being used in different games i think since it sounds like a concept that could work

  • As much as I love Silent Hill.. I've thought for some time that it was time for a re-do, or a completely new game in the same vein.

Shattered Memories seem like it'll atleast meet my expectations half-way.

  • fuck this

  • We don't want phone, we want Map like real Silent Hill

Climax and Konami Please Don't change so mutch things in This Silent Hill we want back real Silent Hill game Like Silent Hill 1,2,3.

  • English not your first language?

  • Even if they make a "decent game" the game WONT BE Silent Hill. I don't care at all for Climax's changes to the series. I fell in love with the way Silent Hill was before. That style, that atmosphere and that story. Looking at Origins and that monster style, I knew they were going to fuck the series. Their designs were cheesy and like Resident Evil.

And in Homecoming, they took too much from the movie and that doesn't show me that they were "trying" much at all. And that's only the start of it.

  • you're completely right man. Americanisation of the series has ruined it unfortunately. Now, i'm not slaggin the states in terms of games - but the Japanese knew what they were doing, the department understood japanese horror tradition, and drew good influences, and it was cool man. Heather in 3 was priceless, and it really worked. The film sucked, because it had a PLOT. the key to silent hill is the 'wtf! how did I get here???' concept, which the spook factor is birthed from.

    peace man.

  • right one man.

  • i think i was being a bit sinicle it does sound good

  • i like the idea of no combat but they at least have to give you a gun and a few bullets and at list a axe or something

  • i will miss the steel pipe:( but in this game im starting to think its a really interesting idea not having weapons in this and it will be scary... but i do agree with you, i would like to have a way to punch them off you or stun them to get away or something wouldnt hurt the horror... not having weapons will add to the scare tho... im looking foward to how this game turns out

  • The series already died anyways. All these new developers seem to sink the series to the bottom.

    (No offense.)

  • This definitely looks better then Homecoming. You really have to admit that.

  • in contrast to Resident Evil... Silent Hill has stayed the closest to where it came from.

  • No PH did play a role in SH5/Homecoming.

I'm hyped for this!! and yes, they are trying, and the demo, looks badass, form how they are doing it!!

  • sorry typo, i meant it made more sense after the batman point. this game does sound like it could be good

  • I read polls about it and got a little worried about silent hill not being intact and things that it always was to be confused. Things being changed like the phone and it conflicting the timeline of SE1 and the ice alt. world theme, and it made more sense. Its more of an alternate universe and not included in the actual series. After the batman point, its more of a what if sort of thing. the ice theme does sound cool tho, to reflect the lifelessness of SH and kinda a depressing horror theme

  • is this only for the Wii?

  • its for wii, ps2 and psp

  • what if thebutch is pyramid head :( :)

    ???

    yes no

  • The things in silent hill are manifestaitons of the minds of people magnified to a degree that it becomes true. Mayb e the butcher has something to do with Travis.

  • I'm actually going to like this game. The fact that combat is removed adds the scare factor to the game. Running away from smart AI (enemies are smarter now and more realistic) = psychological masterpiece.

  • yea i have to say i like origins and homecoming 1st of all origins because well i didnt like 4 too much but i still liked it and origins gave us a lot of freedom in the town itself which wasnt done since sh2 homecoming i liked cause it was different and still was silent hill and i didnt want them all to be the same thatd be boring so it was good now with this new title yet again a new idea i like the idea of because its not the same but i think itll be alot like clock tower or haunting ground

  • The Butcher never raped anybody. ;)

Travis is different from James, ;).

  • I never said it was the exact same game. But there is nothing remotely unique or interesting about it, no symbolism, and no real originality anywhere.

The Butcher IS just a copy of PH, however.

  • actully in Nintendo Power, the inteverview with them, ids you get to use flares to demend yourself. it looks BADASS and ur right man, i agree with you!!

  • i agree with this guy almost up to 100%. I think to compensate the really good controls and movement, the producers might aswell make it harder since you already hav the whole control andvantage. to do so they took away the weapons so that the game is not all that easy. cause when the player has full advantage there is nothing to be scared of and in the end its not a game anymore. hope you guys know wat i mean.

  • No wonder the title is 'shattered memories' since our memories of the first silent hill game have diferences with this. But Cybil did give Harry a gun, right? And Harry has to fight Samael, with what? A freakin PDA?

  • Well, TheLoneMarine you should check out the interview with the devs of this game in this months issue of Nintendo Power. This game is Survival Horror, not Action horror like the past games have been. In resident evil 5 (not bashing it its a great game) you have many big guns to kill the zombies with and that makes you empowered so you probably won't be scared if your over 12. This game is supposed to play out like a horror movie the protaganist is basically helpless with only flares to help.

  • Sorry for dub post couldnt get enough in. (See my other comment for the begining.) The monsters in this game hate heat so the flares scare them away. But the AI in this game will try to cut you off no matter which path you take. And there will be many paths to take. Some lead to certain doom whilst others lead to the safe place you have to get to.

  • Thanks. I'm looking forward to this. I totally agree about the weapons thing.

  • I do. In RE4 Wii Edition, the motion controls were done really well, almost to a fault. It was really easy to just pick off the enemies with head shots since Leon didn't shake the gun like there was an earthquake happening.

  • If you didn't already know, I think that flares can serve as the "defensive item" you're talking about, since you can keep monsters at bay with it and even drop it in an alleyway to momentarily lose them.

  • You also have very, VERY good points made.

  • Silent Hill Playnovel was on GBA, which was Nintendo contact.

  • Much truth spoken around 4:30! I agree - the imagery and immersiveness was a huge part of why I liked them. And I'm a gameplay person too - I love Super Mario Galaxy to death (beat it 6 times), yet Silent Hill draws me in in a way that other games just can't.

Yet, improving the gameplay in ways that add to the horror atmosphere - i.e. having to run, hide and block off enemies - will add to it in both ways.

  • I actually liked Origins. I didn't really want to play through it a second time though. I tried, but got bored with how much time you spent in the maze-like buildings.

They did definitely try to copy what they believed Silent Hill was, and you're right - they tried.

And btw, I happen to really like Homecoming. It's not AS creepy as the rest of the series, but I was still creeped out overall, and the emphasis on combat didn't hurt it for me - heck, I learned to fear the Schisms!

  • i hope the psp and ps2 versions will be good to. not just half assed

  • sh origins was ok especially for a psp title..
