dude, im fifteen and live in a town primarily with white people. i dont want to be different, and i already am being of mixed race. i straighten my hair and it looks fine but its a fucking hassle. I was really thinking about a weave but all the ignorant comments changed my mind.

You guys really need to get more educated on other races besidess your own.

"black women and weaves" ... what a narrow minded statement.. I am white and i wear weave all the time... Just about every supermodel you see in a magizine (victorias secret models).. singers (jessica simpson, taylor swift hell ive even seen carrie underwood wear one) ALL wear weaves. I didnt realize it was only a "black" thing thats pretty ignorant. its not as unnatural as say a boob job or cosmetic surgery its hair for christ sake you can take it right out!

I asked the same thing, and I ended up getting one. A weave is when you have hair sewn into your own braided hair. It's not always necessarily fake hair, if you're going to have it sewn in you'll need real hair. There's NOTHING worse than having a bad weave, and artificial hair is hard to manage.

She's not teaching self-hate. She's talking about wearing a weave that looks like your black hair - and not like an Asian or European wig. Wearing a weave is not self-hate. Plenty of women alter their appearances with make-up, tanning, lip injections, plastic surgery, and the like. Perhaps all of America is self-hating in the sense that we all want use articifial means to look "beautiful.
