for those who need help with the f chord, use what i call the john mayer technique,

use your thumb for you first fret 6th string and your index finger first fret 2nd string, with your middle ring and pinky finger as a normal f chord and it sounds pretty much the same. hope this helps.

Ok, so I've been playing guitar for like 6 years+ now, and I just can't get the rhythm with the scrapes down. Is there anyway you could eleborate on tips for the scraped notes? This is a very informing video note/tab-wise, but I was hoping it would go over more so the rhythm. Like, I know how to play scrapes here, I just could use any tip(s) on how to put it all together. @briannakayte i think it's the second strum that you're ears are not picking up. They get used to the sound of the picking, and miss the more beat-like sound of the strum. I had the same thought but after playing it for a while i realized what it was. I think the strumming parts make it feel like there's a drum in the background because the difference in the sound of the strum and picking are so different, and you almost only pick up the picking

@Reitermaniac Nevermind, got it, it's just 0h1 on the 2nd/B-string slightly after you've picked the root A, but way before the downward "scratch".

Play your Am with only 3rd and 4th fingers in their normal position on the G and D strings, have your 1st finger off the b-string. Pluck, then strum and then immediately put the first finger down on the b-string before plucking the next note.

@kirbygirl49 The numbers are the fret you should play. If you have a 8 on the first string then you should put your finger on the 8 fret of the first string, very easy :D

There is only one "box" because it's like a timeline. You read it like a book.

You first play a note then the one to the right and go on :)

@livelongandbefree idk how much this will help, but frets are always counted as 1 at the very first space between the end of the fret board and the first metal line on the neck, the second fret is the space between the first metal line and the second and so on, the tabs go top to bottom as u would see ur guitar if u lay it on ur lap, so the top line in the tab would be the thinest string. the chords are just the names of the groupings of fingers that make a certain note on the guitar

I have a question about the scratch.

I've been practicing this quite a bit recently, and to do the scratch i generally mute the stings with my middle or ring finger (depending on which is more convenient. I.E. for the first two chords I use my ring finger that's otherwise unused to mute the strings)

But some people are saying (comments) not to mute it. So which is correct? I'd assume the muting because you hear the scratch better but I'm not sure

for everybody asking - it's just a barred F note.

finger across first fret and make an 'E chord' shape with your 3rd, 4th and 5th fingers on frets 2 and 3. look up on google or something if you need more help

Hey, thanks for the great video - I just got most for the intro down by watching it. I recommend one modification though: for the G, at many places using just 32003X works better for moving from C to G (its just quicker and cleaner I think). That way you just shift your middle and ring fingers up one fret and bring in the pinky later.

Barre chords are pretty hard. It took me a while to be able to hold them down and I can't even hold all barre chords perfectly after a year. But it'll come with practice. Keep trying, and good luck!

Those are unplayed or muted strings. You just don't play them or you're covering them with a light touch to mute them - they can also be XXX if they are part of the "chuck" (a strike of the strings when they are lightly covered by your hand/finger.
