I have an ebike. I live in the city and I ride it to work, which is only about three miles from my condo. It saves a lot of money on gas since I own a Hummer. On weekends, I drive my Hummer but people give me these looks like I'm some type of villain or something. I think I'm going to trade my Hummer in for a car before someone tries to hurt me.
@grybold Good idea. You'll spare yourself from being keyed bi-monthly. The Humvee is a symbol. You're getting looks from individuals who think it is ridiculous, gratuitous and generally ominous to drive a converted military vehicle on public streets. How many innocent people in the world do you think have had the "privilege" to see Hummers roll into their city... only to see them as the HARBINGER OF CHAOS, WAR AND DESPAIR.
I live 2 miles from work. I honest traded my Hummer in for a Prius, and I bought an ebike. I ride my ebike to work every day, and my Prius has really just been sitting in my garage gathering dust. I use the Prius when I go to the grocery store though. I really like my ebike. When it starts getting cold and snowing, I will probably drive my car to work though.
very nice this would get a lot stupid drivers to bike and to get the feeling of riding in trafic. its also green. i'd say this is great for those who are too lazy to get a normal bike because most people are anyways
The whole point of e-bikes is to displace cars, not bicycles, by giving people another fun option that gets them out of the car. You can get to work without breaking a sweat, and can exercise on the trip home. I find that when I use the electric assist, I am pedaling anyways, because then you feel like "superman" getting more speed out of it with the same pedaling effort. So choosing an e-bike doesn't make you "lazy"!
Any combination of the pedaling and electric motor can be used. It is still a pedal bicycle, and the electric motor can be used as much or as little as the driver wishes.
If your in the Ottawa area come to our meetings at the museum of science and technology. http://www.evco.ca. Hope to see you there October 30th, 2006.
