  • If BMW filters are the best then why don't they market them for other vehicles? and why do they require only BMW filters for warranty?

  • I just bought two BMW OEM oil filters from my dealer. Both of them say "MANN FILTER BMW 11 42 7 512 301" on the outer edge. So what's the difference between these and and the MANN filters sold by other retailers? The "OEM" filters are darker in color because BMW treats them with a chemical perservative that supposably makes them last longer. And I don't doubt that it does. Another way they legitimize longer oil change intervals.

  • BMW premium quality, BMW quality=SHIT!!! Tons of continuous problems related with electrics and electronics, crap suspension, cheap and rubbish quality rubber and plastics materials used everywhere

  • What about MANN filters that Amsoil sells for my e39?

  • right..so what they are saying is that MANN filters are rubish

  • As a service tech, I call bs. If you buy decent quality aftermarket (baldwin, wix, mann, premium guard, bosch) they will hold up equally as well and do the same job. I have only seen one or two filters ever begin to disintegrate, and that was because the idiots drove 20,000 mi. between changes. Stay away from places like jiffy lube and midas and take your car into a REAL local repair shop for service, especially if you have a BMW.

  • remember folks only original bmw parts

  • From a perspective I can see where BMW is trying to drive this video for other "chinese" filters... but... what is driven home is the, good point that, someone (Mann, licensed et. al.) has to make the filter and the part meets all specifications less the real part number/ BMW stamp. That is what (BMW) has issues with and the consumer has issues with on the mark up.BMW is just late on what the big three have seen IRT this issue, and for the most part, they (thank goodness) gave up on that battle.

  • a real important video because my 3 series on board says to change oil every 20000+ km, unusally long intervals so i would get a jobber oil change in between the ones paid for by bmw, i can see now that it is not necessary. it would be a good idea to post how come bmw has such long intervals between oil changes...

  • @chris14091975

If you're going to be running your oil at 20,000 km intervals, you should at the very least change the filter at 10,000 km intervals.

  • dsfaaf

  • the "counterfeit " Mann is a fake Mann filter.

genuine Mann filter is what BMW uses in their cars.

  • @sunnyjason or Mahle depending on the filter itself

  • Thats why as a BMW owner, no matter what year, model, you have to get those filters from a BMW dealership and have them OR your indie change it and YOU sit there watching it if you have to.

I can't tell you how prevalent fraudulent repairs are in the BMW indie shop world.

Used Bimms are a gamble - if they have been mis-maintained, you won't know 100% unless you buy from the original owner or second responsible owner who went the extra miles and has proof of it.

    Tough being a BMW owner.

  • Next I'd like the specialist to explain what damage is done when supermarket quality engine oil is used with BMW's extended service intervals.

  • Yeah... I do go to dealer to buy bmw filters and bmw oil but thats about it. Everything else is made by well known other companies. Buying BMW OEM is just to expensive.

  • This video would be more applicable to owners if they tested their OEM part to a generic part.

ie. a part that is not counterfeit, but one made by other legitimate companies

  • Made in Germany.

Yeah sometimes I am proud of my country.

  • BMW = COOL !

  • Interesting watch, makes one see how much R&D is put into a silly part like the oil filter alone. Personally I wouldn't get a BMW filter for one of my cars because of the price, use Mann or Bosch instead. Needless to say if I had a more modern BMW (meaning I could afford one), I'd probably also afford to have it serviced at the dealer.

  • Ye ye, this video is bullshit. All BMW wants is us buying their x3 more expensive parts. If u change oil etc in ur BMW yourself u will probably agree with me. I always get the MANN filters which are great.

  • Our Video we exploded a Bmw with after effects =)

  • well, there's a difference in counterfeits and aftermarket parts from third party suppliers. i barely buy original parts for me '98 E46 318i... maybe i would if i had a more recent model lol.

  • I did an oil change on an E39 once at Pep Boys and when I went to remove the filter, it ripped in half. Lady said she changes her oil every 6 months. Not sure the exact brand of the filter but that definitely was NOT a genuine BMW filter. Spent almost an hour picking the remains of the filter out of there. Probably a STP or possible Fram filter.

  • I thought this was very interesting. I rather do oil changes at home so I can be sure that top quality engine oil and a genuine BMW filter is used.

  • Still my favourite car !

  • Only the original BMW!

  • Yeah for those idiots who change their oil at Jiffy Lube. JIFFY LUBE does NOT change your OIL filter! If your that cheap than change it yourself.

  • But BMW spare parts are very expensive where I am, but majority of the German cars here are all BMWs. 35% BMW, 29% Mercedes, 20% Audi, 10% Volkswagen, 6% Others.

  • @Skampo1119 You can purchase MANN, MAHLE and Hengst...all three are top shelf. You can purchase them from several stores on eBay. I sell them all day long to countries I can not pronounce. My personal favorite is the MAHLE brand. Damn good filter.

  • @jbavarian I think most people will play safe. Spending a little more rather than destroying the car's heart.

  • Dislikes: Mercedes, Volkswagen, Audi and Opel xD

  • as an bmw automotive tech this is very true i usually use a pocket screw driver to remove it from the housing cap and it does not tear like aftermarket oil filters and when you try to pull them out of the housing or the housing cap the instantly disintegrate and what a pain it is to remove them afterwards.

  • How the hell counterfiets MANN Oil ilters for gods sake? ... You're much better off counterfieting money. Dickwads

  • That's a valuable piece of information. I'll remember that.

  • HaHa. Nice propaganda BMW. You must be talking about the MANN filters that have been counterfeited. Not a true MANN filter that would never behave like that!

  • now the question is: is the electron microscope a certified BMW product? :O

  • This is actually very true.

  • get JabOdydubs on this quick!

  • all that ad just for oil filter!!

  • To make this a comedy clip very little would have to be changed. The fake lab, the security camerea black and white overhead shot.... A little dialogue change and this is a good little skit.

  • my next car M5 :) cant wait

  • Annija Lapple - Oil Filter Specialist ..... That's not her real job title surely

  • @PatSharpsNastyMullet +1 HAHAHAA Germans take themselves VERY seriously ;)

  • @PatSharpsNastyMullet Her actual job title is: Actress

  • @PatSharpsNastyMullet reminds me of an old school Bond flick

  • I'm looking for this song for months, does anyone know the title of first song??????? midomi don't recognizes :(

  • I like the part where he lightly rubs the BMW filter and deliberately crushes the aftermarket one haha. I don't doubt the BMW is better tho

  • @BrabusTKR i spent many year working with bmw and those aftermaket filters do fall apart just like in the vid. it is actual quite common.

  • @BrabusTKR That's not a difference in pressure. The OE filter is that solid. It only looks like he's lightly rubbing it because it's holding up that well.

  • @BrabusTKR We don't know if he put more pressure on the other one, he may have put the same pressure on both and because the BMW is such a better quality oil filter it didn't break under pressure.

  • How often shall we service our BMWs for Genuine BMW Oil Filters? TQ
