Christ has provided salvation for all men, with a free choice for accepting/denying His offer, which most simply reject for the sake of sin, which they love. also, the rest of the Holy Word wouldn't matter, would it? you simply cannot base a religion on a single verse, especially without studying it. also the true church, the body of Christ, which has survived up till now, has to agree

The problem with this argument is that this doctrine conveniently ignores the fate of those who hadn't the *opportunity* to believe in Christ. On what basis are they judged, or on what basis are they forgiven?

When people don't believe its not like they actually do, but simply deny God. Not at all. In reality, they honestly think that the a religion is mistaken, or they don't know about it.

So what? It could be just as true as those dealing with Earth being firmly fixed and the sun rushing underneath the earth at night to make it to the right side in time. There are a lot of geocentric references in it too - so what? People writing the bible got that one wrong too. If you look at the implications of Hell it is very obvious that it cannot be ordained by a Just and Loving creator. Its one thing reading the Word. The right interpretation - that's a different matter. Hell is not real.

According to the Bible the Earth is round but flat - not spherical. It is in the center of the universe - the sun goes around it. The "circle" of the Earth is not even an "orb". Ancient people thought that Earth was like a disk by merely looking at lunar eclipses.

Oh, and volcanic eruptions were observed since before history, so certainly people knew that hot stuff came from below Earth's surface.

Recording self-evident stuff in the Bible is not impressive.

I agree that people have seen volcanos erupt, but did they use sulphur (brimstone) a lot? I think they didn't need to use sulphur, nor they knew what it was.

Notice the word is punishment, not punishing. Punishing would be continuous, while punishment is one act. The punishment of the wicked is death, and this death is everlasting.
