I've never heard that there was any mystery as to what the old man meant. Since I first played this game as a little kid I always just thought it was obvious that he was refering to the triforce piece located in the eastern most peninsula of the dungeon.

If you get the big shield, or whatever it's called before entering the first dungeon you can just stand right in front of it and block his attacks.

at the dungeon i think its at 1:41 you can put a bomb at the top middle of the room and i opens a room so you don't have to wast any keys :D

I just noticed that you could hit the old man at 01:47 but it doesn't seem to do much more then make the 2 fires start to spit laserballs on you (Like the watercreatures).

hey dude i love your walkthroughs ive beaten this game a ton of times but i havent played it in years and picked it up again so i was watching to find some of the old tricks....but when your talking about the old man in the dungeon about the eastern most peninsula...stop and think about it,,,look at the map...where the triforce is the very most eastern section of the map and its out on its own like a land peninsula...hence the eastern most peninsula is the secret...secret is the triforce

@adultgohan01 your sword only shoots at full life, but you can get a magic rod later on that is just as powerful as the white sword and shoots all the time, its in lvl 6, the magic book is in lvl 8 and makes the rod fire up upon hitting something making it as good as the magical sword later on, but its not effective on certain guys aka dark nuts, wizrobes, and bosses
