GREAT car folks! My father has one, and it now has 94,000 miles on it, with ZERO problems! He has done synthetic oil changes on it every 7,500 miles, and it still runs like new. An AMAZING car for the money.
Volkswagen recently announced, they will be dropping the Rabbit nameplate on the sixth-generation Golf, when it goes on sale in USA and Canada in September 2009.
Rabbit no more. The new car will be sold as the Golf.
Nobody in America knows what a "Golf" is? Shenanigans. I've known what a Golf was since I was 4 years old. My dad had a brand new 1989 Golf GL when I was 4, and I've loved the hot hatch ever since.
Now, I drive a 2009 Rabbit S, and the charm is still there, though much bigger than its old self. In fact, my dad still has a Mk2 VW, though it's an '88 Jetta Carat. Still fun to drive, though. I love Volkswagen.
Great car, best i've owned; consumer reports gave it the highest rating in the compact series....and uh, its 0-60 in about 7.8 for the manual, 8.2 for the auto. Not sure how they got 8.5 but whatever.
with those extra features like 6 cds changers he mentioned. it is in the low mid $20K....expect to spent around $17K out the door for the most basic model w/automatic
my dad has a tdi, they are really good cars and i would buy a diesel right now if they were out. i really dont get hybrid buyers, hybrids seem pretty crappy to me especially when compared to a vw diesel.
Ethan you are retarded and incellent. Will you kindly take your finger out of your ass as drinfernogh asked? The Rabit is designed for excellent value and standard features. The GTI is known for its handling and performance.
Well ethan, if you take your finger out of your ass while you're driving, it's easier to control the car. Maybe this is why you think it handled poorly? But seriously, I had stock wheels on mine when I first got it and was happy. But I managed to pick up some used GTI "classix" wheels and by golly it handled SOOO much better.
I had some telling me--he got beat in a drag race by a rabbit--I rolled on the floor laughing thats like getting beat by a gremlin lol----I still like the rabbit though
Just drive one, dumbass and you'll know what it's all about. Call it "Yo Mamma" . it still kicks ass.

musicISlyf1 1 year ago
why do they keep changing the name?! when the new one comes out it is gonna be called a GOLF again!
driftnut56 2 years ago
For the north american market = RABBIT
the parts of the worl = GOLF
199gSauerkraut 2 years ago
i always felt that vw patronizes and is condescending to the US market. and calling the golf a rabbit is surely the epitome of this condescendence.

1989 Golf GL was my first car. Family had it for 15 years, never had a single issue. Now I roll in a 2007 Rabbit :)

never mind, I know why; this is the '06 model. I have an '08 and it has more hp and torque. 06-07 is 150 hp, mine is 170hp

does the 09 rabbit come with the dsg transmission?
quietfamily 3 years ago
No, might in the future, but stick with the manual, better in every way.
SuperleggeraVW 3 years ago
Except for the main purpose of a transmission: shifting
striketalonx 3 years ago
Well I prefer to go 0-60 0.2 seconds slower and have fun on the way there.
SuperleggeraVW 3 years ago
I can agree with you there, but no way is a manual better in every way. (I do agree that a stick is still a more enjoyable experience)
striketalonx 3 years ago
No dsg for rabbit, if you get the automatic it has tiptronic, very usefull in snow.
blueweb25 2 years ago
actually the gti does have the dsg transmission available

i dont see why they changed the name back to rabbit. it sounds stupid in my opinion.

Golf sounded stupid too...its just cause you're used to hear it!
