Luke was ferforming skills ''only a jedi could achieve'' which even amazed Anakin, Luke and Leia were already jedi knights but there skills were untuned
I have to ask a question that has been bothering me for a while now and I'm hoping someone here can answer it for me. How did the Empire beat the Millenium Falcon to Bespin? I know Boba Fett was following them but there is no way he could have known where they were headed until they were almost there. Is this a plot hole or am I just missing something?
Well think about it, Boba Fett probably followed them and saw that they were heading to Bespin.
The Millenium Falcon's Hyperdrive was damaged so they could not travel through light speed, they were forced to travel at a slow speed. Boba Fett's ship the Slave 1 had no problems so he was able to get to Bespin before them.
@TheGoldenShamrocks Did the Empire actually beat them there or did they simply show up quietly while Lando was 'entertaining' them. It's not like they had an entire garrison of troops, so a quiet arrival is possible.
@sal1274 No Lando says "I had no choice, they arrived right before you did." But I think it would have make more sense if the empire had arrived after.
@TheGoldenShamrocks They arrived early for Dunken Donuts Coffee and breakfast food. Thats why. Plus Vader had to stop at Naboo on the way there because he left his cell phone swimming out to those islands that he and Padme used to go to.
lucas said he was going to release version of this movie with number of scenes that were cut, one being, that we see Luke learn the jump he did from the carbon freezing chamber,
Im selling a Bespin Luke outfit on ebay, belt included for a low price and fast shipping, go to ebay, search: Luke Skywalker Empire Strikes Back Bespin Costume
This was the absolute best Vader, not too dusty, not too glossy, not restrained, not too emotional, he was THE badass here, so cold, so many badass lines.
Lot of bravery on Luke's part here. He approaches Vader and draws his lightsaber while for all we know, Vader just wanted to talk. I imagine Vader thought at that moment, "OK, son. Show me what you've got." It's Luke who's the real aggressor through most of it and is even resourceful without his weapon. Luke knows he's way out of his league here, in terms of swordsmanship and use of the Force, but that doesn't stop him. I'm sure he made his dad very proud that day.
@angeltosome i totally agree with your analysis. the BEST movie in the history of moview, and this is the most epic scene ihave ever seen in my life.. in a few words, there are so many feelings..anger, terror, fear, despear..and some twisted fatherly love.. respect to the scene..
Star Wars is hands down the best thing ever made the lightsaber duels, the space battles, the awesome characters, the epicness of everything and Boba Fett
The Original version is better then the revised version. The seen at the end of the film is uninterrupted vise showing Darth Vader going back to his ship in the revised version.
it bugs me wen people say "luke i am your father", but he sed "No. I am your father." my name is luke and i am a HUGE star wars fan and it bugs me wen ppl misquote the best line in cinmea history.
I can't understand why Vader would try and capture Skywalker when he knew the way of the Sith and the rule of two. If he were to bring Skywalker to the emperor and he would fall to the dark side like he would hope Vader would then ultimately be destroyed.
@TheDiabeticVampire The Sith regime is always a pair, but neither one fully trusts the other and is always looking for a way to overthrow. Vader was hoping to recruit his son so that they could eliminate the Emperor. Vader loved the power that he had, but hated the man he worked for.
@wilzusuki He can use it, however since almost all of his body is mechanical, it would be hazards from him to do so. He isn't weak, but he physically can't do it.
I like the sword fights in the original trilogy because they are controlled and confident, but have a spontaneous feel to them, like there is actual combat taking place. In the prequels, everything is faster and more acrobatic (and moar epic rite?!!1), but the fights are overly choreographed. It becomes less like an emotionally intense struggle, and more like an elaborate and whimsical dance.
I still can't decide what's more badass. That Vader has more power in one hand than Luke's two, or that, before he gets backed off the ledge, he knows that he doesn't even have to bother parrying some of Luke's swings.
Yoda shouldn't have spent more time on "swing to hit your opponent, not his sword" rather than how to float rocks all day long.
@whereeaglesdontdare Thankfully it looks like his comment has been removed. I almost felt embarressed for him. Fancy saying that the lightsaber battle sequences in the prequels were better than this? Irvin Kershner's direction was flawless. He was able to get real emotion in this scene from Mark Hamill and even an actor whose face is completely masked. I'll take that anyday over spectacular sword fighting choreography that is almost devoid of any emotion.
@bootiack Also note that Avatar had the largest budget of any film in history but the plot lacked in originality and depth, here was a low budget film that will be remembered for ages, not because it grossed a lot or it had good effects (all that will fade with time and inflation) but because it immersed us in a universe we had never been to before with a plot superior to anything to this day.
Even Lucas himself has admitted he borrowed "here and there".
Storywise "A New Hope" is remarkably similar to Kurosawa's "Hidden Fortress" (that very name is mentioned by the Empire in a deleted scene), and Lucas DID admit that movie was a huge influence.
Darth Vader's helmet is remarkably similar to the ones worn by ancient samurai, and there's even swordfights...
Much was borrowed from the novel "Dune" too. Desert planet, empire...
the script is part of the problem with many of the sw movies, these are all quality actors, you give them good scripts and they do good job, you give bad script even the best actors will sound horrible
Also the direction. Kershner took as many takes as needed, allowed the actors to have creative input, and knew how to direct people (he even read Vader's lines to demonstrate to Jones how he wanted them to sound, which is why Vader sounds his most lethal and menacing in this movie),
Lucas, on the other hand, does three or four takes max, allows little to no input from the actors and his only direction is "Faster and more intense!"
The Force allows them to do many things. Much like how Luke was able to jump up out of the pit, Vader was able to glide gracefully to the lower level.
That's because there was only one full Jedi left alive at the time of his training, and that Jedi died during the bulk of it. Luke just learned and fashioned himself as a Knight by himself. In the future, he's a Jedi Master.
Um, you never watched the movie?! No, he doesn't kill Vader that easily. He never kills Vader. Vader dies in the last movie by sacrificing himself(ep. VI).
The big question I always wonder about is this: Does Vader fly down those stairs or is it just a jump? Watch closely because it is a fine thing. If it's a jump, why doesn't he bend his knees upon take off? He seems to lift off; yet he clearly hits the floor as if he jumped. Perhaps he used the Force to take off and allowed gravity to take over but what does that amount to - falling with style?
it's kind of a leap where i think he used only his ankles for the minimum momentum and since he's also going down, it doesnt take his upper body to shake in a jumping motion.
But do you think he used the Force in any way. I forgot to mention this but he holds his arms up and we hear a sound effect that implies he is using a power. If it was a different movie & he was a robot, such an act would be interpreted as something to do with him being a robot. In this movie, we know his 'specialness' by which that sound effect makes sense is his Dark side Force mastery.
So if he *did* use the Force, was it only a kind of leap?
I think he half-flies. This makes sense to me because if flight were really possible through the Force, we'd have seen it. But Vader is (or may be) 'The Chosen One' & has (or had) the highest ever midichlorian count. So despite having lose a lot of his body (meaning he lost a lot of midichlorians) his Force might is abnormally strong & he's had time to improve as a Sith since he turned.
So I think he can actually almost, literally, fly - a subtle but astonishing portrayal of his power.
@FriendlyCroock, Even the originals stated the biological factor of the Force. Yoda said "life creates it". This was just an incomplete explanation of the biological origin of the Force. You can dislike it, you can even deny it, but it's there.
@KeldorDAntrell you can't replace the magical element of the force with bacteria. that is the worst explanation. I don't care if Lucas wrote it. to say that microscopic organism reveal prophecies and help us know the emotions of others does not make it scientific. it's as biological as a world with dragons. Star wars is sci fi with some fantasy
@mamothmanX, As a qualified film expert I can assure you that Star Wars is not sci-fi. Many people mistakenly think it is but this is because genre studies is not their field. Star Wars is a fantasy. The midichlorian element was actually an aberration; a *sci-fi* signifier that didn't match with the clear genre signifiers of the rest of the series. It doesn't make the *whole* sci-fi; rather it's a blemish of incongruity in an overwhelmingly fantasy series.
@KeldorDAntrell ya dude, i get what you're saying. we're on the same page. I love star wars. I used to watch the trilogy by myself in a day when I was 8 years old
@mamothmanX, All three in a day when you were *8*? I thought I had the Star Wars bug bad! Oh wait - the trilogy didn't even exist when I was 8! Wow! It must have been great for you! Still, I had the anticipation of the new film coming out at the pictures.
Star Wars impelled me to film school. It inspired many people.
@mamothmanX, Cont. ...shouldn't be ignored just because one doesn't like it.
Also, the midis aren't 'bacteria' (this is your pejorative term for what is referred to in the films as a "life form" i.e. with a level of Jedi respect for ALL life). Nor do they reveal prophesies. The film states that they enable the Jedi to *communicate with the Force* - NOT the midis. The *Force* is that which 'knows' things such as 'truth', the *Jedi* alone interprets the meaning...Cont.
@mamothmanX, Cont. On the whole I think we're in agreement in the sense that we would have preferred it for the midis aspect to have been left out but as 'bad' as it may appear, it actually does NOT negate the 'magical' or spiritual beauty, majesty, mystery etc. of the original concept. The Force can still be interpreted in religious terms, it remains unexplained. There also remains the Jedi power to be 'resurrected' *on another plane of existence* where the midis needn't exist.
@KeldorDAntrell there is a biological factor but it still doesn't bring a scientific explanation or limitation on the force. thats my point. thats all i'm trying to say, maybe you agree maybe you don't
The 'bullshit' as you call it was written by the same man who wrote the original movies. If you want to ignore it & interpret the movies your own way, fine, but you can't tell others that interpreting the movie in line with the author's concept makes them wrong.
This scene is the epitome of lightsabre battles. Forget the fights in the prequels where the lightsabres looked like felt tipped pens and were perfect-edged. These lightsabre blades look as lethal as they are meant to be & their sound, rather than merely being a familiar hum & buzz as they were in the prequels, seem to emphasise the type of blow being aimed. In a word they seem 'alive'.
If you find it funny, you're failing to appreciate James Earl Jone's *menacing* vocal performance. His pronunciation is deliberately rich & elaborate in order to lend the vocals the correct old-world quality appropriate to a character that uses the word 'thy' i.e. "What is thy bidding, my master." He doesn't just caress the words at this point, he does it numerous times.

KeldorDAntrell 2 years ago
it's kind of a leap where i think he used only his ankles for the minimum momentum and since he's also going down, it doesnt take his upper body to shake in a jumping motion.
glenarth 2 years ago
But do you think he used the Force in any way. I forgot to mention this but he holds his arms up and we hear a sound effect that implies he is using a power. If it was a different movie & he was a robot, such an act would be interpreted as something to do with him being a robot. In this movie, we know his 'specialness' by which that sound effect makes sense is his Dark side Force mastery.
So if he *did* use the Force, was it only a kind of leap?
Interesting eh? :)

I believe he did a Force Jump but his heavy limbs held him down causing him to appear as if he were flying. And Vader is the choosen one hah

@KeldorDAntrell
midichlorian = bullshit from the prequels don`t bring that shit over here again

@KeldorDAntrell
in the original the force was a magical element not a biological one
FriendlyCroock 11 months ago
@FriendlyCroock, Even the originals stated the biological factor of the Force. Yoda said "life creates it". This was just an incomplete explanation of the biological origin of the Force. You can dislike it, you can even deny it, but it's there.
KeldorDAntrell 11 months ago
@KeldorDAntrell you can't replace the magical element of the force with bacteria. that is the worst explanation. I don't care if Lucas wrote it. to say that microscopic organism reveal prophecies and help us know the emotions of others does not make it scientific. it's as biological as a world with dragons. Star wars is sci fi with some fantasy
mamothmanX 11 months ago
@mamothmanX, As a qualified film expert I can assure you that Star Wars is not sci-fi. Many people mistakenly think it is but this is because genre studies is not their field. Star Wars is a fantasy. The midichlorian element was actually an aberration; a *sci-fi* signifier that didn't match with the clear genre signifiers of the rest of the series. It doesn't make the *whole* sci-fi; rather it's a blemish of incongruity in an overwhelmingly fantasy series.
However, it exists &...cont.

@KeldorDAntrell ya dude, i get what you're saying. we're on the same page. I love star wars. I used to watch the trilogy by myself in a day when I was 8 years old
mamothmanX 11 months ago

KeldorDAntrell 11 months ago
@mamothmanX, Cont. On the whole I think we're in agreement in the sense that we would have preferred it for the midis aspect to have been left out but as 'bad' as it may appear, it actually does NOT negate the 'magical' or spiritual beauty, majesty, mystery etc. of the original concept. The Force can still be interpreted in religious terms, it remains unexplained. There also remains the Jedi power to be 'resurrected' *on another plane of existence* where the midis needn't exist.
KeldorDAntrell 11 months ago
@KeldorDAntrell there is a biological factor but it still doesn't bring a scientific explanation or limitation on the force. thats my point. thats all i'm trying to say, maybe you agree maybe you don't
mamothmanX 11 months ago
@FriendlyCroock, Your commands are wasted on me.
