This was very helpful! Thanks! I just started dancing a few months ago. I'm so excited that I can finally do a bell roll! I just have to work on smoothing it out, it can still be choppy at times : ) Thanks for posting!
Thanks for posting your vid! I got the move and traveling down all within the video lol. I just started belly dancing about 6 or 7 months ago and I can do the advanced movements?? I must be like naturally gifted or something i dunno! lol thanks never seen this move before! it's hard to find moves that are like this on TV all they want to teach you is stuff u already know. Thanks! :)
This is just hip circle I don't know why she make this move to look so difficalt...only thing what you have to do is: you bend your knees and imagine like you want to write a circle whit your hips
well it is an Internal circle - which is a little more complicated than just a hip circle where the hip makes a circle on the floor around the feet. which is why i choose to break it down
Exactly, and you can actually hurt your back when you are trying to dance this too big in the back (instead of doing a real internal circle). Interesting for me was that you told us to use our glute muscles because my former teacher said we should try to keep them released and work only with the inner ab muscles/pelvis (sorry, my native language isn't english so maybe I don't find the correct english expression :)). Anyway, I can do both variations and feel good with them ;) And you are AMAZING!
just keep trying, everywhere - standing in line at the store, in the shower, at work at your desk ect. think of your pelvic bone drawing a circle around the inside of your ankle bones.
sent you a vid... :) I was getting tired towards the middle/end lol there's another version on my channel... just wanted to send it out to the dancing women I admire here on youtube :)
Thanks for replying so soon! Hope I'm not being a bother but... what you said- how would I do that exactly? Is the advice I got about the ball of your foot etc correct? Sigh... I guess I'll just keep practising (even though I hurt from the waist down haha!) Thanks again for answering :D
for me umi umi are from my hips, but it appears on those videos for hiprolls, that they do keep one foot flat and one on the ball. that is what gives that moves the "snappy" look... i think....
:D yeah I kind of figured that out too by now... hehehe there was one video where the girl obviously had one foot up... thanks so much for replying! At least now I think I got it right... just need to practice... actually I love your belly dancing moves I need to practice that too. :D
I asked you on one of your other videos about doing the hiproll(search hiproll on youtube &you'll see what I mean)and I'm wondering if it was derived from the umi umi move? What is it that you do with your feet? Please help! Some1 said this:"have one foot flat and the other o the ball of ur foot so ur leg is slightly bent then kinda step down with the foot that is slightly up and switch from foot to foot"
i did a search, there a few variations. but they look like they are derived from an umi umi. body is in a very low position, and they are accenting one side of the inner circle. but it does look like an umi umi
okay, i tried the abs pulled back and i can tell how it does support the spine better. i'm a begginer in yoga and recall recently an instructor mentioning something very similar regarding the stomache muscles being a BIG supporter of the back. also, posture helps...when slouched i can feel the pressure go to my lower back instantly while standing. gotta straighten up! old habits die hard.
i started practicing yogo to strengthen my lower back, which i've always had trouble with. the belly dancing is REALLY helping strengthen my back, as well as giving me an overall body workout. i am getting WAY more out fo this than i bargained for. thanks!
yeah, im so excited for you!!! I really want to start taking some yoga classes, I used to teach aerobics for yrs. one secret i used to teach my students is; to balance on one foot, pull your abs back to your spine. try it with abs pulled back and with out, the diff is amazing
whew! brain understands concept but body resistant :P

i have difficulties with breathing while I do this movement. does that mean I do something wrong with the abs?
asungailaite 3 years ago
I can't do this! I just wanna take my pelvis out and scream at it. WHY WON'T YOU MOVE THE WAY I TELL YOU TO?
munchkin0518 3 years ago
I feel the same way hun you'd think something so similar to the hip circle would atleast be close in simplicity as well :)
