  • They are going to make the carriers CATOBAR capable and buy F-35 CV instead of B

  • I think that, soon or after, UK will "confront" against the new USSR that-probably- killed Litvinenko to worry British people. England is strong, but She is vulnerable to submarine-led naval blockades, and British duty should be be vry strong in anti- Osca-class warfare! I hope that British fleet is able to stop Russian aims to world dominion

  • I don't think England can stop Russia. You need super carries, not these things.

  • These carriers will be using f-35 jsf and Eu typhoons. But better planes will be around then i bet.

  • I hope these are the first steps to Britain getting its mighy Navy back. Can someone answer me, how many carriers does Britain have (excl these next two) from what i've heard from Americans we have bugger all. Personally i dont know.

  • Britain has the 2nd biggest navy in the world, 2nd to America which have a huge army. (Making them trillions of pounds in debt.)

These super carriers will be bigger and better then any other countrys carriers, apart from USAs.

We have also developed the type 45 destroyer that will watch over the carriers in battle. Currently we have 3 aircraft carriers.

  • Ahh brilliant, the Royal Navy used to be one of the big point of Great Britain i think. It would be fantastic to get it back like it was.

  • :D tbh we are the most well trained army in the world. And quality is better than quantity. Our army is very good and that is something to be very proud of, e.g. SAS, SBS, RAF, RN and our tanks are beastly (Challenger 2 the best tank in the world.)

  • Ahh now that stuff i do know :D i love watching our troops on the telly, so professional.

  • @tommybritain Where did you get all that info? Are you British by any chance? What do you really know about the world's militaries to say that we have the best? The US easily has a vastly superior military as they spend more on their military than the rest of the world combined. They don't mess around when it comes to their military. The UK doesn't have the burden of being the worlds sole superpower.

The SAS has a good reputation, but the US again comes out on tops in the special ops department

  • @l337z0r Wrong

The US Was Defeated At The Combat Trials

And In The Past Ten Years Has Had To Request British SAS To Conduct Missions Its Own Soldiers Are Incapable Of

    Stick To Proven Facts

Your A Victim Of Arrogance And Propaganda

  • @tommybritain Also, the French and German military are about equal to us in terms of raw power. The German military is actually stronger in terms of land warfare capability. They have more tanks, more manpower etc.

We probably have a better Navy and Airforce.

  • @tommybritain dont kid yourself, America's military is not what puts the US in debt, the US spends 4% of its gdp on military, like any other country. Americans debt as a percentage of gdp is not much greater than any other European nation. Certainly not nearly as bad as WWII

  • Do Britain not have 3? Incincible class: HMS Invincible, HMS Illustrious and HMS Ark Royal

  • HMS Ocean (L12) operates as a heli carrier as well.

  • @MachiavellianHeir Its not strictly speaking an aircraft carrier

  • I didn't call it an aircraft carrier.

    RTFQ.

  • The problem with Aircraft carriers is that they are all missile magnets. The Americans have 12. It only takes one missile to sink a ship like this. The Larger something is the much larger the target. ie..SS-N-12 Sandbox nuclear-capable supersonic anti-ship missiles...

Remember the Silkworm missile that was shot down by seadart.. it went right through the US defence screen. Good luck!

  • Thats why we have recently built and commisioned 6 Type 45 air defence ships to prevent that from happening, they are the most advanced destroyers in the world, and 100% British.

  • Thing is tho speacialforces, these things dont travel single handed, they are escorted by potentially dozens of coalition warships, frigates and destrroyers, so its got plenty of technology to seek out a missile.

  • I takes a lot more that one missile to sink an aircraft carrier, even if one hits it. Plus when you have a fully networked carrier battle group equipped with missile defense, it takes hundreds of missiles fired simultaneously.

  • No way.

  • That will be a very long wait. Don't hold you're breath. This is England don't forget.

  • Why is that? Once these babies enters service there wont be a need for any of the Invincible class carriers. Seriously, they've had to remove the Sea Dart to make room for more aircrafts.

  • Now delayed for two years. Another triumph for Britain's MOD.

  • I'm an expert on Naval Warfare. Most carriers do not need 2 ATC towers, but this One must be so advanced that to keep everything running smooth it needs Two.

  • Actually, it doesn't have two. The one in the front is reserved for running and navigating the ship, the one in the rear is for ATC.

  • It's about time we spent some serious dosh on our pitiful navy - good to see these new carriers are going ahead - shame they won't have an airgroup in time for their launch. Why are we only building 2?!!

  • we only need 2

  • Why does it have 2 atc towers? Excuse me if i am wrong, i dont know anything about the navy.

  • one of the towers is for navigation..

  • hey does the british royal navy have aircraft carriers or are these their future versions of carriers?

  • We already have 3 aircraft carriers, but they are old, so these much bigger and more technology based carriers will replace them.

  • oh i see
