Excellent adaptation of a very good novel, maybe Agatha's best. The amazing recurring theme adds a particular depth and the acting is top notch. My only nitpick (for the people who haven't read the novel) is that you can see the killer at the very beginning which is not good for the mystery part.

@LedyAmetis Это вряд ли. В период Перестройки кино в широкоэкранном формате почти не выходило. Разве что его могли обрезать до широкого экрана.

@HHHPPP8 Нет я не путаю, он точно широкоэкранный. Я нашла ссылку на DVD релиз начала 2000-х годов от CP Digital там указан формат 16:9, и на амазоне в одном из комментов также сказано что формат 16:9. Только мне не понятно почему на западный рынок поставляют ш/э версию а на российский - огрызок?!

P.S. В советские времена широкоэкранку часто снимали на пленку 4:3 закрывая верх и низ кадра

I like both endings of the story; it seems that people either love or absolutely hate the ending of the book-too unbelievable is what I hear about it. To me, the best adaption is this Russian film which just happens to have the book's ending; I'm sure that the production company would have done as wonderful a job with the 2nd ending.

I like Rene Clair's movie (2nd best IMO), though the rest throughout the decades got progressively horrid, unfortunately.

I adore Russian movies so much that I don't have any problem for them doing an Agatha Christie movie. Life is so much more interesting to keep an open mind.

I was Blore in a stage play of this. Of course we did the silly version Christie wrote for stage and screen. What makes this a fascinating piece is the "frenemy" uneasy alliance of Lombard and Blore, and to a lesser extent, Armstrong.

Even though it's been 35 years or so since I read the novel, it flowed in such a smooth way that I can remember that most of this is indeed word for word. I rarely can read an entire book without skimming, but this one was superbly done. Easily better than any of the goofy versions we have seen before. Nitpick-while Blore and Lombard were much alike, I recall when Vera looked at everyone as animals-Wargrave the tortoise,, Lombard was a wolf, and I think Blore was bearish or doglike. Awesome job

Since your reply to me was removed by the moderators, I will not quote you. I will simply say that as someone who has read and re-read "And Then There Were None" since I was in junior high school, I find this Russian version extremely faithful to the novel----so much so that I can almost hear the characters speaking in English accents. Why you think this film lacks tension or eeriness is beyond me.

In answer to "tyzhen", I'd say this version is EXTREMELY faithful to the original novel. I have a few nitpicks with this film, but they are only slight. I only wish that there was an official DVD with these subtitles! The DVD I have has English subtitles, but it's as if some Russian intern typed in the dialogue into Google to get the translation. I'd be lost if I didn't know the book already!

Your words as honey to my soul. ;) When I decided to make the subtitles for this film I have read that English subtitles in official DVD release are below criticism. I just thought, why I can't to do it better if I have the film, Russian book and original English text. But I was in hurry and made some mistakes and misprints. So sorry. If I'll be in good mood and will have a time, I'll try to fix them up, of course. ;)

Thank you! One slight suggestion I have is fixing the "weather eye" dialogue that Blore speaks after the grammophone is being played. I assume that that is an accurate translation and is a Russian expression which means roughly "I'm watching you as closely as a sailor or farmer watches the weather." I'd replace it with "I was to watch you all." [direct dialogue from the book] or "I was keeping an eye on all of you."

you want to see a movie that catches 100 % the atmosphere of the 1920s-30s-40s?Then watch "Farewell , My Lovely" (1975) directed by Dick Richards, starred by Robert Mitchum. Or Sergio Leone`s "Once Upon a Time in America" . Or "The Godfather".

Russians always get angry - and correctly! -when someone in the West tries to make a movie about Russia, but why do they think they "can make" a movie on a US or a Western European topic? Actually neither side can depict the other`s things properly.

@PyccoTypucmo I didn`t say that all others can`t make movies about foreign countries. I said Russian film crews can`t make movies about the West. The face mimics, the intonation, the body language, the temperament of the Russians is different.

By the same reasons Westerners can`t convince as Russian characters - whole their appearance as if says: "Haha, now I pretend to be "Vanya" or "Misha"

If the movie truly conveys the book - then they both bullshit.

Even a quick glance shows how convoluted and artificial the whole story-plot is.

If that is the "great" Agatha Christi - then it is better that I haven`t wasted my time with reading her stupidities.

About the movie - it can not convey at all the atmosphere of the 1920s-1930s.

Like in all Russian versions of Western authors - the actors play too Russian,you expect every moment the vodka, the caviar and the kazachok.
