i know how rare the stock engine is. but trust me on this one. the z will only come alive with a bigger v6 or v8... it is a car which demands more power. and it will suck you dry to get it...
wat about the LHD z are4 their a lot of those cause i found one that's in ok condition but i don't know where to get replacement parts for it. so im kinda scared on whether or not to get it cause i want to drop an rb26 in sometime after buying it.
My Datsun mechanic (Japan trained-tech inspects at Historic races) is putting the finishing touches on a rotisserie ground up restoration to stock on a '69, #34, which will debut at the 2011 Japanese Classic Car Show. He says it's worth $200,000. Two in the US. He's got the other one. I"ve seen them both now. Prices are high because of the Japanese collector market; not many get to the US or anywhere else. It's debut will be a BIG event. japaneseclassiccarshowdotcom
It's odd that the 1970 Japanese Fairlady Z 432 didn't get the famed "240Z Wings" on their rear pillars, like our U.S. cars did. These 2.0L engines had DOHC, hemispherical combustion chambers and triple dual-throat Mikuni carbs. Yet at 162bhp, they were only 11 more bhp than a stock U.S. 2.4L Z engine. My 1970 240Z is bored to 2.5L and the E31 head shaved to 10:1 compression with headers and Twice Pipes, probably giving more power on SUs than this one at half the cost.
Perhaps one should copare the 162 bhp with the correct 129 bhp of a standard L24.......and I think that any our our 240Zs are worth less than half that of a genuine 432. :-)
I'm quite convinced that the winged badges, like that of the bonnet badge were after-thoughts and quite late in execution - they're not the prettiest of additions on an otherwise pure design.
Anyone realise that the Z432 and Skyline S20 engines are different in concept ?
@LynxOGrady yea a special Fairlady Z came with a S20 engine borrowed from the Skyline these were called Fairlady z 432. 4 valves per cyclinder, 3 carburetors, 2 cams. thus Fairlady Z 432.
totally beast def best z car out there other then the z432r of course. got to love the s20 though. i also like the OS GIKEN head for the L24 block that is for me one of the craziest upgrades for the 240.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
I dont know anything about first gen Z's besides the fact that theyre the best looking sports cars ever made... and that they were almost named "2000gt," but Toyota couldnt handle the awesomness that is Nissan. All I know is a 1st gen Z looks really good with acrylic headlight covers and the lip that sticks out a little. I just like the gnose is all.
@skinnyg190 No, it's just that the Z432 is a legend. A collectors item. There not many of them. They are better left stock. You don't change the nose on a Ferrari F40 or a Jaguar E-Type you know. The Z432 is legen- wait for it - DARY!
Ummm no. Its perfect the way it is. No need for another copy cat car of some Fantasy magazine. Of course if your into that kind of thing there's nothing wrong with that :)
Z432 is pretty rare and considered as regendary Z which stand out from other Z cars. I would say it costs more than brand new 370Z. with showroom conditions, it goes up to 70K or even more.
mlf1992, you may already checked out Wangan Midnight anime where S30 Z is the main character. Altough it is an anime, but it is nice, recommend you to search YT for Wangan Midnight, I saw some English trasnlated episode.
That's not a OS Giken head. Nissan made several hundred Z432s (PS30) with a Prince-designed 6 cylinder, DOHC, 4 valve per cyl. engine, redesignated S20 from the original GR8. It was also used in the C10 Skyline GTRs.
Old Z's are some of the most comfortable sports cars to ride in. For one thing you've got the room, like's been said. Another thing, you've got a great rest for your right leg/foot on the tranny tunnel. I have as much room to stretch in my 280Z as I do in my '94 Camry if that helps. Cars like Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas seem cramped in comparison.
Fairlady Z(S30) was based on Bluebird 510. The early Z had L20 in Japan. L20 was OHC engine made by Nissan. Only Z432(4valves, 3carburetors and 2camshafts) had S20 and that was detuned engine(original was used for racing machine R380 made by Prince which was merged by Nissan. We could easily made S20 over 200ps!

Ya I found the price of one at a Japanese yard, it was the equivalent of 85k Australian once it was imported :S
So much nicer than every other classic out there, based upon looks and passion alone if I was offered a Z432 and a Ferrari 250GTO I'd take the Z
Rational thiking would tell me to take the Ferrari, sell it and buy 10 Z's a kgc10 and a nice R32 :)
