I was going to purchase this system but after having read countless reviews on its performance with the 580 EX ll, the Flex Pocket Wizards have TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED on all levels and have not even remotely delivered on their claims that their the FLEX can shoot approximately 1000 feet. To add even more insult to such a poorly designed product, Corporate advises you to wrap the FLEX with a goofy looking sock or a hard case shell (which will cost you an additional $35. Do Not Buy this product.
What Umbrella Adapters is David using? Does anyone know? I was inspired by this and bought the MiniTT1 and 2 FlexTT5 but I can't find the Umbrella Adapters. Thanks.
I just purchased both mini and flex. I have 580 and 580 II. One 580 was mounted on a light stand and the other 580 mounted on my mini on my camera. I see both of your flashes fired. I could not get mine fired simultaneously. Could you provide me instructions how you get both of yours fired?
@ju1y For the simplest set up, set both flashes to eTTL, set the MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 to the same channel, C1 or C2, and fire. No need to set for Master or Slave. The PocketWizard system fires both and the camera treats the light as if it were one flash.
We have tt1 and flex 5 on a 580 and get less than 10ft range with ETTL. Phoned PW who just said they were aware of the fact the new PW's don't work well with some Canon flash units. They did say we "might" get more range if we put a sock over our flash units.
This appears to be improper operation. Assuming that you are a USA resident, please send them into service for a full diagnostic check. They will fix, tune, upgrade to V5.0 and whatever else might be needed to get you the operation they can achieve which is quite amazing. An AC5 will accompany your FlexTT5 on return. The AC5 is really not necessary for normal use inside about 50ft or more.
Just wondering why he uses that modifier as main light... It's not a good direction.

@ju1y To set ratios, or HyperSync, which David Maynard was using, please check the simple tutorials on the PocketWizard website

Nice if it worked.

I really want one of these bad boys. I just ordered the old PLUS II models. Because the new TT models are still not available everywhere.
