This speech really helped me get through my friend's death, who died very young. If you have never experienced someone your age that you were close to dying, I cannot begin to tell you how much of a heartbreaking experience it can be. He and I were in an improv troupe together for years, and after he died, I came upon this clip. It really helped me to put things in perspective and realize that even though my friend left early, I should celebrate his life rather than mourn his death.
Wow, alot of people really don't get it. They were very good friends. Cleese and the rest of monty python were grieved offcourse by the loss of a good friend. It must have taken an enormous strength for Cleese to say farewell to a good friend, in the spirit of monty python, while feeling very, very sad on the inside.
This is awesome. I really hope my friends and family have a rip snorting time at my funeral. I don't want my death mourned; I want my life celebrated joyously!
"I hope somebody says something like that about me when I'm gone..." And i ammend that old quote by saying that I Mean It!!! Thanks John and Graham for another laugh!
Its because people now a days all they can think of when their insulting people is FUCK YOU or YOUR A SHITHEAD! or something stupid. Theres intelligence to the insults which makes it funny unlike you see now a days. Mark Twain once said in response to a friends funeral "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it."
Benny Hill was considered better than Monty Python by 2 TV stations (WOR and WLVI TV Channel 56 in Cambridge, Ma)! I agree! The great bio The Benny Hill Story by John Smith (bio at amazon) shows more of these stations! And just about Python----google the name "Frank Worthen"!
the guys of monty python are still great, john cleese did a great sendoff here, but it just makes me sad that theyre old now, we'll never have great comedians like these again
I want my funeral to be like this! Great stuff! This is the way to remember people!

Watching this it makes me think "Why ARE our funerals so depressing?"
I mean, this should start a trend and have people remembered in a great way, instead of a heartbroken one

Not to knock Cleese, but there are people just as funny as him, only not as known as him ^^
But lovely concept for a funeral though, mine at least :P

If it was the truth, sure and Cleese did it in a loving matter. You know TRUE friends are brutally honest to you just as your own family would be.
Besides, why would I care if one of my friends says anything bad in a funny way or unfunny way? I'm already dead by then
Yeah, let's end it, maybe you'll get it one day

A fitting Eulogy. Don't think he would've liked a funeral without any laughs.
