What an oddly beautiful machine. I'd be nuts to say it's classically beautiful, like a '55 TBird or a '57 Chevy or a Silver Ghost. But it's just a solid, rare, unique automobile. It's amazing that into the late 80's these cars were still manufactured! Imagine a 2011 where AMC was still going strong. What would their answer to the modern retro-ponycar be? A 2011 AMX?
Test drove a sedan version off the showroom in '86. The sales Mgr. said it was unbreakable and pointed us to one of those deep double dipped high crowned intersections that almost EVERYTHING would scrape at anything more than 5 mph. We approached at 40 and he said "Don't slow down!". I said "But?" he said "Trust me!" So I just maintained speed and prepared for the jump of a lifetime! The suspension was so compliant the car remained nearly level and NEVER left the ground! THAT was impressive!
i remember going mudding with my grandmother in one of these with a '98 grand cherokee that got stuck and grandmas' eagle pulled it out haha good times
Personally I think AMC did make some really ugly cars like this one. But I can't really knock on AMC too much because I own a 1991 YJ jeep. I know it's not AMC but I know how the jeep is built and it's good. Considering this a sports car? Probably not, since it sits high and probably has a lot of body roll.
My first car was an 85, same color scheme, but mine was fully loaded. Wish I had the sapce, and cash to buy another. It sure was a fun car to drive, way ahead of it's time. Thanks for posting the vid.
Nice looking car. It's too bad AMC quit making the car when they did. It'd make great competition for the Subaru Legacy, among other car-based SUVs. Do you still have the car? If so, how about a ride in the car?
yestday i seen a eagle wagon on the way to work . you don't really see eagles wagon or amc car rarely ? i remembering when my foster parent had a eagle wagon. what dose amc stan for? i would like to know .
all i own and daily drive are a 1980 Chrysler Cordoba and a 1979 Dodge Aspen cars then looked better had more style and are easier to fix no computers
I've driven a 1982 wagon, it's got a digital odometer too. I basically own it because i take care of it, change the oil, give it love & attention,...shit like that, because my elderly neighbors are getting too old to drive it. Gotta love them AMCs!
Also, I have what might be a dumb question(s) 8015LasCruces: Were all Eagles 4-wheel-drive / all-wheel-drive? And is this one?
I remember that at least some of these were 4WD. Which is kind of amazing when you realize that it would be years before even Audi and Subaru would start making 4WD cars.
Eagles are all 4 or all wheel drive; which one depends on the year. The AMC Concord is the 2 wheel drive version; it's older and based on an even older AMC, the Hornet
OK, I'll CALL A PSYCHIATRIST FOR YOU TO REALIZE HOW MUCH THESE CARS WERE AHEAD OF THEIR TIME. THESE THINGS WERE A BIG STEP UP FROM THE JEEPS. WHERE YOU HAD TO GET OUT OF YOUR CAR AND SWITCH TO 4WD. THESE CARS ARE SO POWERFUL, THEY CAN PULL STUCK IN THE SNOW PLOWS. THESE CARS GO THROUGH ANYTHING. SO, THE NEXT TIME YOU THINK ABOUT MAKING A COMMENT LIKE THIS, THINK ABOUT WHO YOU'RE TALKING TO. IF YOU DON'T HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAY, DON'T SAY IT AT ALL.

I had the exact same car. It was the worst car that I ever owned. It burned oil from day one, the airconditioner leaked water on the floor every time that I made a turn and the tires wore out on the sides before the treads. Well, I lived in PA maybe that was the explination for that. Now that I look back it was the ugliest car that I ever owned. With all this said, it was however a fun car to drive.
I have a 1983 Eagle Wagon, and a 1979 AMC Concord sedan. Technically I still own a 1980 AMC Eagle wagon. That was the best car I've ever owned! It was almost completely void of options, just the way I like my vehicles! Nice and simple to work on, tough, and just plain good looking!
@soberdrunk78 These are actually the most common AMC's I see around, but its relative. These cars are a dying breed. I would love to find one and swap in a Cherokee drive-line.
it is my dream to own one of these cars in good shape.

Holy Moly 8015LasCruces, first I see your Fuego and now this mint-condition Eagle! Is this yours too?
If so, I can only figure:
A - You owned an AMC dealership in the mid 80s and for some reason you kept some prime examples on ice;
or
B - you now own a Tardis (Time Machine) and have taken up importing cars from the 80s to the 21st century.
Either way - keep it up!
