I too would like to know an approximate temperature on the flat iron, i try to keep it at around 230 degrees, but it seems like it is making my dreads too skinny from being too hot (they arent burning tho). but they arent sealing the way i want them to, and if i try turning down my flat iron a little, they dont seal good at all... lol
thanks for all your great video's! Got hubby working on a loom for me :) and was having a heck of a time when I was not sealing in the rounded motion. Mine are burning also, so I've turned it down....some spots are harder than others, its this normal? Thanks so much!
@WskyGrl73 You shouldn't have hard spots. The heat just needs to be hot enough to produce steam to seal the dreads. You may need to turn it down a bit more and add more water
@AngeryInch666 The fiber isn't melted together, so there will be some looseness with use. I reseal between uses. Is it making them floppy in the hair? Your flat iron may not be getting hot enough to seal at the thicker points.
Will any hair straightener do? I can't find any information on how hot it should be, just that it can't be too hot. The coolest setting on my straightener is 230 degrees. The hottest over 400.
I have that same flat iron lol

@vapestarr The temp can carry from color to color and brand to brand. Its best to test on a scrap.

@swampophile As long as it has temperature settings you will be fine. Some brands/colors will scorch with too high of temp.
