@DORC101 if they fought like that on the street they would get smashed up. I do recognise your point about competition and points. Indeed, I used to compete in the semi contact circuit myself but not scoring punches? is this for real? surely such a sport should have some grounds of reality otherwise we are reduced to playing a game of tag.
this fighting needs some punching techniques..I prefer ITF style taekwondo..more like my onw style called Koshiki. but there intensity and spirit was good.
As a Tae Kwon Do martial artist myself, these guys looked sloppy. Even though this is full contact sparring, it still looked sloppy for black belts. Fatigue?
I did taekwondo for eight years and was right below second degree black belt. Let me tell you when you get two guys going at it hard, you realize why your wearing gear. Your forearms will kill from blocking turn kicks and your shins will hurt. Its something else really. An unbelievable adrenaline rush and I really miss it
@geewhiz05 I feel the same way. I stopped at 2nd degree black belt when I was 15, but now I self-teach and self-train. I miss some good ole sparring tournaments.
@xihakuix I know right. I've never been to a tournement like this. When my school goes to one we never usually just kick like that we take our time and go all out and we usually do more than the same techniques :) but this was still ok
I also like to practice the arts from a traditional standing point. But what you have to understand is that the sparring and maybe even fighting is a large part of the arts. I love sparring and, although I haven't participated in a tournament, I would also enjoy that a lot. Sparring sharpens the skills us martial artists learn and gives us a chance to put them to use in realistic situations and tournaments help you see different looks of personalities and techniques. Sparring is training
I'm sorry to hear about your brother's passing. He fights with a true warrior spirit. I practice Kempo Karate but I enjoy all forms of martial arts and fighting in general. Good fight. Thanks for posting.
i am from the "hood" and a member of the KA system of karate. we fought in a bare knuckle full-contact tournament in 1975 (yes, before the ufc). my teacher is grand master karreim abdallah (look him up) who talk kevin (little ka) thompson (who was not even the best student!!!). your sensei was correct, you either train to spar or you train to fight. also, you will fight the way you train.
i really dont like this sort of sparing, (no offence intended) there is no blocking and all the same turning kick turning kick, no variety. and the bare huging not good.
Can u use your hands 2
