A band's change in artistic direction doesn't always mean that they're selling out. Out of all a.f.i albums the only ones that went mainstream were decemberunderground and sing the sorrow. Even with those albums their music still makes sense unlike actual sell-outs like green day.
In this case it does mean they are selling out since the completely change the sound that made them AFI in the 1st place. Lyrics making sense or not does not change the fact that the actual "music" is in the same genre that made us old school AFI fans like them in the 1st place.
