I MET TAMMY MANY YEARS AGO. SHE CALLED UP ON THE STAGE TO SING "STAND BY YOUR MAN". I ALMOST FAINTED......I'M GAY!! I WILL LOVE HER TIL THE DAY I DIE.....AND I HOPE TO MEET HER AGAIN. UNTIL THEN I HAVE OUR PHOTOS......AND HER MUSIC. HER VOICE STILL RIPS MY HEART OUT AND I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE SHE'S GONE.....I LOVE YOU TAMMY......DENNIS
I played this song on 19/July/2011 @ 1706 hrs on Classic Country AM1060 - CKMX radio - Calgary, Alberta, Canada on the drive home show and the phone calls I got from playing just this song was amazing. Untill next time friends...keeper' country! rod embree
@rode8 I used to pick that station up occasionally in Everett Wa but not anymore. If I'd heard this on the radio I wouldn't have believed it because I bought this album in 1987, still have it and have never heard it on the radio.
Thank you so muchAcer750 for putting this song up. I have not heard it before but again, it is fabulous and gives me goose bumps. She is so unique how can anyone not love Tammy ? THe true LAdy of Country music and I LOVE your SIGNIN' Tammy. Yes you are 0ne of a kind. THere'll never be another Tammy. Ritchie saw to that, may he rot in hell! Tammy was a true Lady in everyway. Her songs are profound and felt. Thanks you TAmmy for hours of pure enjoyment!
I remember first hearing this song. I called the radio station here in Charlotte and requested it every single day. The DJ got so used to me calling, she'd just say "Hi Roby...I'll play it again for you". One of the most beautiful I've ever heard.
Who actually cares about who was "Queen" of Country, or "King" or "princess" or "Duchess" Those are just stupid titles that actually mean nothing. What really matters is that this woman had an amazing voice and talent the like of which you don't see these days. Patsy Cline had an amazing voice too. Loretta Lynn, Kitty Wells, Dolly Parton etc. etc. They're all amazing and phenomenal singers.
They don't make em like Tammy anymore. "Yesyoumay" said she'd even put Tammy above pop singers like Reba and Dolly. What an insult to mentions those names in the same sentence with Tammy. Those 2 wouldn't be fit to carry the "Queen of countrys" hairspray. Tammy could bring a tear to a glass eye.....
What a fine lady, She came walking in through the crowd so confidently and of course smiling. The crowd opened up, let her through and as she passed everyone became very still. One lady quietly told her she was beautiful, she brushed off the comment and patted the lady's shoulder. Everyone was in awe of her.
The photos here are so very nice. She was the very best that ever was - in my humble opinion. She came from nowhere and rose to the top of her class.
Surely her talent was God given for explicit reasons and God took her home to sing for him. He created the best and took to her sing in his heavenly choir.
acer, which chart are you goin' by. Accordin' to the Billboard country annual, Tammy peaked at #16 in Billboard, 2-27-88. God bless ya, my friend, for the post!
She is THE REAL DEAL...if you cant feel something listening to this, I dont know what the Hell to tell you. Ever since they put her in the ground, NO ONE has done it better, and NO ONE ever will again.
She was every bit as beautiful as these photos depict. In person she was humble and so very nice. I have one album cover she autographed for me long ago.
Someday we'll meet again and I'll listen to her sing in God's heavenly choir.
@zakandebbie Bet you prefered her singing it on the show to the studio recording. She was so great that night, I was only 7 years old and I remember it like it was yesterday
This is not a song I'd heard before tuning into it here on YouTube. And I have most of them! Now, like so many of Tammy's songs, I find it going through my head. Long live her music. She was the ultimate country singer and still is. May her music and her selfless spirit live on and on and on.
@MIORIGAMI THAt is debatable. Tammy's voice was that of real country , I love Patsy Cline with all my heart. But her style was totlly different than that of Tammy. I wpould have loed to see them in a duet. THe harmony woulda given us goose bumps I am certain. Patse, much like Tammy, was in a class of her own. It is a matter of taste and taste cannot be discussed or compared. Sure Patsy would have won awards I am certain of that

I am so thankful to you and to myself for continuing to watch this video. The photos of Tammy are spectacular.. especially where she is recording as a young woman, long flowing blond hair concentrating at the microphone. That made my day.. thank you. A nd if you have the ability to send me a copy, that would make my year.
When Tammy Wynette recorded Higher Ground she was already at the ancient age of 43 (gasp). Pop music radio is a medium directed at 12 year old girls or aging baby boomers who only want to hear Stair Way To Heaven over and over. Great music, directed toward real adults is out. Finding Higher Ground will take some doing but you will be richly rewarded with beautiful, traditional and deeply moving country music.
Well I don't know about y'll? But this is the BEST darn country music alive and what I would classify as country! I love it and wish more so-called country performers hand this kind of lyrics/tempo instead of "she thinks my tractor is sexy"......who gives a crap!LOL I listen to country music???? the I want country music! As George Jones calls them...."tear jerkers"...LOL I LOVE IT!
They weren't related but there are definitely some similarities in them vocally and their hairstyles in the late 80s and 90s. They were very good friends though.
I was 5 or 6 when this came out and dont really remember. I just discovered it a few days ago. It's amazing, sad this type of music doesnt play on the radio anymore. To bad cause it s better than most of the crap out there... I miss you Tammy, RIP with the Angels
For some reason I remember this song being with a little bit quicker tempo. I haven't heard this in soooo long. I wish the classic radio stations would play these more often instead of the SAME oldies over and over.
i just come across this video, and yes i sure your right, it was recorded in a faster tempo. I think i remember this song being on the album with her standing next to a old woodie wagon, with her trade mark white hat, but like you , it's been soo long ago, im just not sure, Mac
