PS3 has 9 cores, we get access to 6 with linux, you can no longer access the RSX video card on the newer firmware and the Blade server runs about 30-40% faster, but still very impressive (not to mention the blade server is huge compared to the cell broadband engine. Have you found a loophole to accessing the RSX video card? there's not enough RAM on this thing to go full throttle, and I got a film needs editing...

Actually, u need to install a bootloader to the ps3 of a usbkey or memorystick from the XMB menu. Then select "other os" in settings then restart your ps3 with the dvd inserted.

i made a comparison between two extreme prices and virtually the same capabilities. the BMW and a bus is a bad example. i.e; the bmw is nicer, u have control over ur radio, the heat and A/C, theres comfort, u dont have to wait for it, etc. The bus is big and ugly, cant park it everywhere, dont have control over the radio (if there is one) no control over heat and or A/C if there is any, the seats are just springs and material, and u have to wait for it.

This is the second sysrem i have ever seen with a OS like a PC, the first was Linix fidoea on the PS2.

I know people who mod there PS3s to Play Windows XP and even Vista and it plays PC games useing a Keyboard or the Sixaxis. Can you imagen playing Alan wake,bioshock,Halowars and gears of war on your PS3 that would be so wild.

Hey retard, Current core limits is Quad. AKA, 4 cores. Even if you ran duel processers(That alone is probably over $400), Your still a core short. This is more turned torwards development, not normal web surfing. Average computer will "do more" on your average joe stuff. But it won't even begin to compare to the processing power needed for other things. Like simulations.

The PS3 is a game console. For 600 bucks you get a HD gaming system, that also does blu ray video, and is a mini media center for your HDTV. Plus you can do this cool thing with linux. thats way worth the price and a PC cant do all of that. Blue tooth and all. come on, think before you post.

I don't have a ps3 with linux, but I doubt that would work. You play the vids in firefox through plugins. If the plugins were written for the ps3 cpu, than ok. (eg. Macromedia plugins).

Pro Tip #3.1: It IS high-def if is 1080i, 1080p, or 720p. In this case, it's windowed 1080i. As you can see, 1080i is in the list of HD resolutions above.
