Viola is gone in my game, I did not kill her but she is just not around anymore and there is no quest arrow showing where she is. I guess I will never be able to finish this quest. Glitch that was not fixed in latest patch even though Blood on the Ice was said to be fixed.

Wuuntferth is not the killer. After speaking with Viola about the "Butcher" you should have talked with Wuuntferth. Then you will learn when and where the real killer will strike again.
ok so i started blood on ice, but not this way I actually talked to the jarl and thats how i started the quest. I checked my house and there was blood and everything but the thing is that i'm looking for clues to find the murder. In my chest in the house i found a strange note saying something like the murder is in town and it was written by this person who apperently puts these everwhere in the city.They told me to go talk to her but i cant find her anywhere not even in her home. please help me

@Callofdutycat2 when you fast travel to windhelm turn left you and walk down the street walk past the blacksmith area into the market now if you only turned left and went straight forward without looking in different direction then turn right to the stone wall to the right of the white phial store. there is a passage to the graveyard to the left of the hall of the dead should be a staircase go up there and turn right and the house is the last one on the left if you cant find it buy from the

Did this quest after the Legion v Stormcloak battle. I bought the house, got all the clues, brought it back to the steward, then it says the quest COMPLETED. Lame.

You must get into the Hjerim house on the north west corner of Windhelm. The lockpick for that house is Master, so be sure to have plenty on you. Once you're inside you will find a book and give it to that one lady whom is named on the fliers and boom! The hard part is done!

@Drago1128 yeah i had to break in to the hjem house or whatever because the dead body was in the graveyard, susana the wiked, but the gaurd wasnt there for me to talk to....in my other profile my character cant even do it because the dead body wont even show up but hey at least it isnt a big deal because that quest you dont really get any rewards and its not needed for thane of windhelm

@MrMrbenjit I am on the 360 aswell and this game is so fuckin buggy it's unbelieveable. I had to completely start a new game, it's a real pain in the arse but somehow after the first dungeon i have full steel set of armour, lol like i said the games is buggy.

I have several times over now repeated to people what I did and what the problems are, and still people tells me to do what I just described. When I need to repeat myself several times, I'll be frustrated and irritated with all right.

.... The quest isnt over with the court mage imprisoned, Calixto is the real killer and you completely missed half of the quest in this video. You have to wait for another person to be killed or talk to the wizard in prison if you want to truly finish the quest. Thumbs this up so people understand the entirety of this quest.

You can clean up the blood, but it's a glitch in my game preventing me from doing it.
@Icebeam1997 - First of all, her mother is dead. And NO, the steward didn't give me the option. I said that! It is a glitch, it's a same glitch as I can't clean up the damn bloody mess when I bought the house afterwards.
When you talk to Viola, (preferable in day) keep talking to her until she says 'the guards won't help', and from there, you can pick the option 'why don't the guards help?', and from there, that's when you tell her about finding the killer's journal. Mission can lead on from that point...
Dude near that wardrobe theres another one nailed to the wall OPEN IT ITS FREAKING EUGH. (Sorry that means there is a false panel behind it, you will see blood everywhere and bones OH and a second journal :) ) Thumbs up so others can see !

You can go to the Guy that buys the amulets store (sorry for lack of name) and lockpick a chest he has on the 1 floor, it will have another butcher diary in it explaing how he is using the body parts of his victims to build a new body for his deceased lover. Weird.
get done with the imperial quests go on normally for a few days and then come back to windhelm then you will hear a gaurd talkin bout it then quest begins.

The wizard is NOT the murderer!!!!!!!! Why do you think that guy wanted to buy the amulet soooo bad? Because it's him. Go to the stonequarter and wait for the screaming to happen at about 11pm near the market then follow Clixto Corrium to his house and he will attack you, do not arrest the jarl's mage I repeat DO NOT arrest the mage he is the wrong guy!!!
After you complete this part of the quest, you have to go to jail in Riften and talk to Wuunferth in his cell and it starts the other half of the quest.

@Tacanacy I can find Viola, she is often at the Candlehearth hall in the upstairs, but I too cannot get assistance from Jarlieff. I talked to him so many times, and I still can't get the option to ask for help.

I did some stormcloak quests but every time i went into windhelm i checked the graveyard
and its not always 4 times or 3 (according to the skyrim wiki)

how long did bethesda take to make this game and then make shit glitchy quests......... they should get their fucking act together. And can i not do this quest if ive started the dark brotherhood quests. Sussana is still alive im lvl 33 and ive finished the stormcloaks quests.

Everyone listen if you sided with the empire during the war there seems to be a bug that erases the quest for some strange reason Bethesda will fix this in 1.5 and also that FUCKING WAKING NIGHTMARES QUEST

I agree with scooterin, he is the wrong Guy. You can go to the Guy that buys the amulets store (sorry for lack of name) and lockpick a chest he has on the 1 floor, it will have another butcher diary in it explaing how he is using the body parts of his victims to build a new body for his deceased lover. Weird.

The wizard is NOT the murderer!!!!!!!! Why do you think that guy wanted to buy the amulet soooo bad? Because it's him. Go to the stonequarter and wait for the screaming to happen at about 11pm near the market then follow Clixto Corrium to his house and he will attack you, do not arrest the jarl's mage I repeat DO NOT arrest the mage he is the wrong guy!!!

After you complete this part of the quest, you have to go to jail in Riften and talk to Wuunferth in his cell and it starts the other half of the quest.

you guys do know you have to be lvl 10+ for this stupid quests to pop up right? or have to do 100% of a storyline/Guild quests...it didnt come up at lvl 9 for me but then when i went somewhere and lvled to 10 and i came back to go to the smith to sell then i went back to see if i could do it now...but it was here xD help this will help for you guys that cant find it?

ive got the murders happening *possible spoiler* -------------------------------------------------------The guy in the meuseum, Cryolix or something has a journal in his chest pickpocket him get his key and then go up the ladder open it with the key and read his journal. I found that but the thane says I can't even buy the house even after I finished the whole civil war

@Tacanacy I can find Viola, she is often at the Candlehearth hall in the upstairs, but I too cannot get assistance from Jarlieff. I talked to him so many times, and I still can't get the option to ask for help.

no murder scene, i got the key to the bloody house by finding a dead woman next to a guy asleep in the shield something clan house. probably a glitch, dont think she was supposed to be dead. but i dont think i can buy the house now, which is a shame cause someone i know has it and its a badass house,...

WTF someone please help me!@! the scene does not appear, when i try to by the house the jarl says something happened there and i can not buy it yet, i have done everything correct and the scene does not show up! i lock picked the shield peoples house and pick pocketed the mom of the victim and she had the key to the butchers house!@!@! stole that and examined the house... very creepy but i cant do anything i did all i could, and i have all the windhelm house keys also... help me please... :/
