Just finished talking about this song on facebook to some friends from overseas. It is one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL songs I have ever heard , as I told them. It almost brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it especially the lead in from the Kaea. Quite, quite stunning,
I think the song was originally sung by a girl whose last name is PeWhairangi from Tokomaru Bay up the East Coast of Gisborne? If not, she certainly sang the most "beautiful" version of it!
Aww beautiful song brings back soooo many memories of my childhood back in the 80's and yet I'm Samoan! lol it's ashame we don't hear songs like these anymore. Thanks 4 the post!:-)
Poi E is my 2nd favourite song. This I believe, is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. The tune has such a haunting quality to it that it gives me goosebumps. And the karanga (is that right ?) at the beginning is so beautiful it always makes me cry. They all just have the most stunning voices.
@Volker410 This one Haere Mai is my favorite Maori song. I think it's one of the most beautiful ever written. Different songs for different times though eh ? There is a Christian song Great is Thy Faithfulness which is one of my favorite and Then I met The Master. I also love Country music and Bluegrass and Jazz. . Ella Fitzgerald was hard to beat and Billie Halliday. What can I say -I have very catholic tastes in music ie very widely differing types. Love all Polynesian music though.
So luv dis song, it reminds me wen our youth group sang it!! Was totally awesome!!...This is mean MUSIC...GOD BLESS!!, thanx 4 posting dis up, the group sings it so fantastic!!

I thought the original singer of this song was from Te Hokowhitu Atu (Punto Maraki ) from way back in their early days.
Kara s Pewh sings it just beautifully too.

Yes, Haere Mai is one of the most beautiful folklore songs.
Are there chords for the song?
Sometime I think that a lot music from the Polynesian, Maori ... area is absolutely timeless, very perfect in the basics and not typical folklore.
My favor music is since more that one year Maori and Polynesian ...
Before it was pop and some country stiles.

Kara Pewhairangi sings a beautiful rendition of this song on her own. The club is great but she just sounds so beautiful.
