I can't believe it when I'm watching this. Part of the reason Gruppe B cars were banned was the ignorant European fans who didn't have enough common sense to stay out of the way of the cars. What a nightmare for the drivers. This wasn't the Tour de France - those cars were very very fast and driven by the best.

@soulflower666 When Timo Salonen was driving the 205T16, he was doing the TAP Rally of Portugal. He complained at the service halt that the rear break tempratures were getting higher than normal. The mechanics checked it over and found 3 male fingers stuck in the brake cooling intake at the left rear. Apparently, it was pretty macho to touch a moving rally car. Also, pretty pointless !!!!!!!!!!

Man, if seeing a crash narrowly miss people didn't convince me to not stand that close to the road, that in-car clip at 3:17 would. That driver quote about having to think of the people as trees to concentrate makes perfect sense after seeing that. Might as well have the Redbull Air Racers constantly fly within a few feet of the stands. There's excitement, and then there's tempting fate. Hats off to the drivers, because skill or not, I couldn't do it.
