There are a lot of ways that this song can be played, ranging from Blues to Pop. But in my opinion it works best when it Swings, Texas style. This is the best version I've ever heard.

My friend Dick does this number he played for Gene Vincent in'63 before his return to the USA. The bass player sings it and always fluffs the words. So I often say to him "Don't forget Winona" and you don't go to Flagstaff twice unless you get lost and turn back etc. His problem is he's in so many bands he forgets the words. "It's Wednesday, so I must be playing in "Southern Nights" tonight. What do they play?" It's easy to criticise- at least they do a great swinging version Dick's Tele glides!

I've got the Bobby Troup CD seen in the background- swinging music with Herb Ellis on guitar, too!Recorded live for the radio, great stuff. Bobby wrote the song- a big hit for Nat King Cole. Route 66 "Main Street, America" back then.

The senseless slaughtering of good ole Route 66 into little disconnected bits n' pieces has always angered me. Hidden icons of Americana can still be seen along the route,but are sadly disappearing.

This rip roarin' ode to the glory days of Route 66 as performed by you has revitalized many happy memories of my motorcycling along there (with Ro in the back grabbin' onto my waist,her hair blowin' in the wind).
