  • holy sideburns!

  • Hugh Panaro <3

  • WOW! the Beadle kicks some major ass on those high notes

  • wow, this is stunning :) the best anthony/johanna pairing ive ever seen!! i just got cast as johanna --- i hope im half this good!! :)

  • I liked Betsy myself, but this is also alright. Still Joslyn's animation is amazing

  • you know shes an amazing singer, but i feel like she should be spazzing out more, thats the only thing i liked about betsy she seemed to get how to act this scene...although she still overdid it at times

  • HAHHA, Hugh's sideburns. This is beautiful. I love this cast.

  • Celia has such an amazing depth to her that other actors just don't have, that is highlighted by her rich, emotive voice.

  • This is the best Johanna/Anthony pairing I have ever heard!!! They should have recorded this cast! GREAT.

  • I've never heard Celia do legit...IT'S BEAUTIFUL and she has a FIERCE belt.

  • Celia is fantastic in this role.

  • Celia Keenan-Bolger and Hugh Panaro? OMG that's awesome! Celia is sooo great as Johanna. And Hugh is just an awesome Anthony. I so wish I could have seen this live.

  • I actually don't mind Betsy Joslyn in this song, it's just during Green Finch and Linnet Bird that I don't like her. Besides, Cris Groenendaal (spelling? haha) is a great Anthony. But these two together in this one are great.

    However, Garber trumps all Anthonys.

  • i dont know why but beatle is one of my least fav characters ....iunno why i dont likw the way he is played ..sometimes

  • its the character itself that makes people despise the beadle

hes the most realistic person in the play. hes a suck up which is something people hate. hes a coward. hes an aristocrat without any sense of the word. hes exactly what most people despise

  • She sings the high notes like it's the easiest thing. CELIA FTW.

  • she rocked this

  • AMAZING. :D

  • THANK YOU for posting this.

i love this song, but betsy joslyn's voice is jus so heavyy.. it jus kills itt.

johanna here is soo innocent, i love it.

    very well done.

  • What is the name of this Beadle?

  • I was just going to comment about that!

Yes, hugh is amazing, he always is... But who is the guy playing Beadle Bamford? He is amazing! that is a really hard part and He nailed it...

  • Ray Friedeck

  • this audience is awesome. xD Most audiences don't catch the "you don't have a gate" line. Or even the "even not knowing who you were" line.

  • its SOOO true

  • I so enjoy Celia in this role. Her voice is beautiful, she understands the role, and she's still got this innocent aura that she brings to the role that not many Joannas can capture. Very impressive!

and why is it that Hugh Panaro looks like Hugh Jackman in this movie?

  • lol....its the sideburns that make him look like Hugh Jackman :)

  • I was JUST thinking that :D

  • well said!

  • Personally, I like Betsy Joslyn better...

I don't know what it is about Betsy, but I just like her better.

Celia Keenan-Bolger is still an amazing Johanna. I do agree with people on that.

Although, I must admit that this is one of the best Anthonys I've seen.

  • this is my very favourite song EVER! celia has such a beautiful voice that she carries sooo well. she is my inspiration! <3

  • "Sweeney Todd in Concert Pt 7 of 16" posted by Norina also has this song, with the best Johanna ever (Lisa someone or other - don't know her) and a pretty good Anthony. This is good (though Victor Garber was the best Anthony).

  • Lisa Vroman

  • @MajorBarbara1955 her name is Lisa Vroman and hugh panaro (Anthony in this) did Phantom togehther

  • wow she is my favourite johanna

  • It pretty sucks they cut it out.

  • I've heard this song on a Sweeney Todd recording and thought it romantic. But it's also hilarious. And the end is again romantic. Such great singers and actors

  • Why wasn't this song in the movie?? This song is so great, and these people are so talented! I loved it!!

  • BEcause the movie was horrible with bad singers?

  • Absolutely, the Antony could never sing this way (unfair to compare him to Hugh Panaro as he is brilliant, but still, that's how it should be sung!), and the Johanna's voice wasn't developed enough to sing this song, and she certainly wasn't a good enough actress. Plus, Celia rocks the house in whatever she sings, she has so much range! She's brilliant.

  • SO BEAUTIFUL! very talented. i really wish this was in the movie. it wasnt because it was too mushy and they wanted it to be more of a thriller. johanna and anthony are actually in the show quite a bit but in the movie there is like altogether 5 mins of them!

  • who is the Beadle?

  • The fat guy blathering about Ladies and their sensitivities

  • I think they meant who was the actor playing the Beadle.

  • This song is beautiful (as well as thoroughly entertaining). I wish I could see this musical! Or, at least, they should have kept this song in the movie! (Got more chance of seeing it! And I like the Beadle in the movie more (he's creepier than this beadle))

  • "we don't have a gate"

    lawl.

  • Holy shit, that woman is insanely talented

  • i love this song, they should have put it in the movie version

  • my absolute favorite number in the show. they probably cut the song from the movie because it was too happy... oh well, still the best song

  • wats the difference between the broadway production and the kennedy center production of sweeney todd?

  • The Kennedy Center is in Washington DC, and it starred Brian Stokes Mitchell, Celia Keenan-Bolger and Hugh Panaro. The most recent Broadway revival production starred Michael Cerveris, Lauren Molina and Patti LuPone, and was directed by John Doyle. The original BWay production starred Len Cariou & Angela Lansbury and was directed by Harold Prince. The first BWay revival starred Bob Gunton and Beth Fowler.

  • Thanks for uploading this! I love celia and hugh!

  • Which production is this?

  • Kennedy Center, 2002

  • OMFG!!! It's Phantom and Eponine my dream has come true hehehe :) (Hugh played phantom fo the opera and Celia Was Eponine in the les mis for those who didnt know :) hehe

  • And Hugh also played Marius and Valjean, hahaha.

But things like that entertain me to no end as well.

  • I'm So Sad They Cut This From The Movie- I Think Tim Burton Could Have Done It Soo Well!

Lovee It ! Thanks For Uploading :)

  • ditto!

  • I don't think their Antony and Johanna were good enough actors for this song and probably struggled with it vocally, and tho I love Timothy Spall (the Beadle in the film) there's absolutely no way he could sing Ladies in Their Sensitivities. Also, this song is way too funny for the directing style Tim Burton chose for the movie, it just would not fit.

  • This is one of my favorite incarnations of Beatle Bamford. Whoever the actor is did a really good job. I love the emphasis he put on "Bowed." Different from the other versions.

  • AHH. AHH. Hugh Panaro!!! <3

  • Whoa! Hugh has a serious case of mutton-chops going on there! lol Thank you so much for this video, I adore his voice in everything he does, and this is one of my favorite songs. =]

  • my favorite lines :

    Sir, I did

    Love you even as I

    Saw you, even as it

    Did not matter that I

    Did not know your name...

  • i also like the lines about the gate

  • can you please post the ballad of sweeney todd if you have it?

  • Sining is great

but the beard is bugging me!

  • Wow...this is great!

One billion times better than Betsy Joslyn...

Wait, they don't even compare...these two are amazing....

  • We don't have a gate! ^^

    it's so funny!

  • Love it! They have great chemistry and amazing voices :)

  • Good, but slighty too fast

  • It's supposed to be really fast!!! The one with that screeching chick was supposed to be fast but she sucked!!!

  • She was Dreadfull singing Green Flinch and Linnet Bird but i though she was decent in 'Kiss Me'

  • why sideburns hugh, why?!

  • He actually discusses those in a recent podcast interview for Les Miz. The link to it is somewhere over at his site.

  • hey Paula :) I know you ;-)

  • i tink they looks sexy on him.

  • I <3. Celia and Hughie are so cute together!!!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW! When was THIS performance. Celia's awesome and so is Hugh. Both reign over awesomeness.

  • 2002 - part of a Sondheim summer celebration at The Kennedy Center that year.

  • I never knew this production took place! It's really great. I love Celia Keenan-Bolger.

  • This is good-but Celia makes a mistake in coming in late midway through this phrase "...fool, but my reticule never leaves my side!" Otherwise, it's perfect.

  • At least she didn't run out of breath like Lisa Vroman. Although I guess a mistake is a mistake... lol

Good recovery. Celia is one of those actresses that's just good in everything she's cast in. Her understanding of the characters she plays is amazing, which is how she's able to play such a unique (and highly acclaimed among Les Mis diehards) Eponine and earn a Tony nom for Spelling Bee

  • Lisa ran out of breath? Doesn't sound like it...

  • Oh wow!!

I can't believe Hugh was in Sweeney Todd as well :)

    Shows what i know.

  • I know, I only know him from the Phantom of the Opera

  • she would do some thing this random for her standards!

  • well, this was early in her career.

  • "There's no gate/You don't have a gate," lol.

I think this version is a little disappointing because the musical phrasing from Panaro and Keenan-Bolger sounds so very close to that of Victor Garber and Sarah Rice in the original Broadway production. Hugh Panaro and Celia K-B have beautiful voices, but I just would have liked something that sounded less like a carbon copy of the original.

  • I think it's better that they didn't put it in the movie, not because I don't like it (this song makes my heart glow) but beacuse I think if they had kept it we would al be complaining about how that girl in the movie butchered it.

  • Just curious, why does the Beadle suggest Turpin go to Sweeney for a shave? There's no hidden agenda there, is there?

  • The Beadle saw how awesome of a barber Sweeney was at the competition between him and Pirelli. So of course he'd send the judge to only the best.

  • I know this song is supposed to lighten up the mood of Sweeney Todd and the movie made it too dark. Hugh P. did such a great job, love him.

  • Omg that was so amazing, i'm so mad they didn't put this song in the movie. <3

  • this is my favorite song from the show!

this is absolutely amazing... love celia!

  • they should have put this song in the movie! i luv it!

  • wow, this was so good, I didn't know she was a soprano either!

  • Wow, I had no idea Celia could sing that high- I thought she was a mezzo.

  • she is sooo pretty! I've never seen her before! She is fantastic!

I love Hugh, he was amazing in Phantom and Lestat!

  • beautiful!

  • I love this song! They sing it so well! Thanks for posting this, it's awesome!

  • Hugh + Celia = Love

This is my favorite song in the show, and this has made me extremely happy, lol.

  • HUGH!!

I loved him when I was obsessed with The Phantom of the Opera!

    Omg!

    I love you!

  • OMG CELIA PLAYED JOHANNA!!!!! yaaaaaaaay!

  • oooooooooohhh. lolz i just felt so stupid and out of it, cuz i didnt know who they were. haha

  • can someone put this on limewire? lolz i love this song!!

  • Really! I look up this song at least once a week on Limewire, but to no prevail.

But yes, goregous. I <3 Hugh Panaro as Anthony, but especially as the Phantom as well.

  • lolz i feel sooooo out of it, but how do you all know celia or audra, cuz i have no idea who they are. but celia is a very good singer! =D

  • They're pretty big names in the musical theatre community.

  • Thanks for posting Celia Keenan Bolger is fabulous

  • i loooooove this song. im mad that they didnt put it in the movie. DANG IT! lolz

  • One of my all-time favorite Sondheim songs!

  • Dang, I ought to get the sheet music for this song. To me it sounds like every Johanna sings flat, but I just memorized it sharp in my head, lol.

  • She's too smart for the role (and it shows) but vocally is by far my favorite Johanna!!! (well...other than Audra)

  • Audra played Johanna?? When??

  • I thought Audra played the Beggar Woman.

  • I wish they dadn't cut this song from the movie its like my favorite!

  • Yes! Post Johanna!

    Youtube had it before.

  • Okay, but give me a while. I still owe someone "The Worst Pies in London" :D

  • and could you do me a huge favor? the finale is what i've been looking everywhere on the internet for. this one, i've seen the one with george and angela, i'd like to see this one too

  • Will somone post his Johanna?

  • I knew I'd be with you one day,

Even not knowing who you were.

    HAHA

    I love it

    :]

  • the woman is excellent...beautiful, haunting voice...I can't believe they cut this from the movie! it's my absolute favorite song!

  • My favorite too!

  • Thanks for posting this. It sucks they couldn't have put this in the movie, but well.. I don't think it would have been as good. Celia and Hugh make this scene. They are great.

  • Who played the Judge and Beadle in this production?

  • celia's range is absolutely incredible! It stuns me how she can master such a demanding sop role like this as well as she can belt.

  • I adore this song. They cut it from the film. Grrrr. I loveit. Its so funny.

  • I really don't get why the audience is laughing...it's supposed to be a fretful and desperate situation, jeez.

  • It's a little ridiculous, hence the laughter. Besides, this is far less suspenseful than many of the situations the characters are getting into in this play. Allow them a little comic relief.

  • "It's a gate, it's the gate, we DON'T HAVE A GATE!" It's supposed to be funny because she's being so crazy. Funnier still because even though she's so tightly wound and stressed, she still can't help but yell "Kiss me!"

  • AMAZING!!! Wow I really like Celia better as Johanna than Eponine

  • Oh my god. I am forever gratefull!! I love Hugh, and the only other clip that i'd seen from this performance was "Johanna."

p.s. I agree about the Sweeney movie comment you posted. (and I didn't want the only version on YouTube to be the one with Betsy Joslyn)

  • Do you have Hugh's Johanna from the show?

  • she's fabulous!

  • good work

  • At least he's masculin. That guy from the flim version would never have been believable wooing a girl.

  • I agree. He was far too androgenous for that role

  • Good thing he didn't woo her in the movie then, eh?

  • He tottaly wooed me though with his voice.

  • i saw hugh when he was in phantom!

  • SAME HES FREAKING AWESOME

  • Celia is pure genius.

  • celia is so hot!

im in love with her nose

  • Thanks for uploading- this is my favorite song and I'm very bitter about it being cut from the film!! But it would be hard to equal the likes of Hugh and Celia anyway. I particularly love that this really shows off the comedy in Celia's portrayal of Johanna

  • OMG....

    I love them both!

Hugh is one of my favorite Phantoms and Celia is my favorite Eponine!

They are both phenomenal in this play!

  • I'm seriously bummed that this song isn't in the movie. Celia is not only vocally amazing, she's absolutely hysterical.

  • Aww! Celia is AMAZING!! :)

  • Omg! Thank you so much for this! Is there anyway you could post some more of this? ^_^

  • i cant stop watching this!!!

  • Love this song, and I love Celia. This woman can do anything.

  • There's something about Celia's voice that I almost invariably love, especially her upper range. I'm glad someone posted this -- the quartet is beautiful here. As a side note, Judge Turpin has never been creepier than in this production....his "Johanna" is just disturbing.

  • thank you soo much! i love her voice

  • my fav. song <3

  • I had no idea Celia Keenan Bolger has such range.

  • I love this version. Celia is an amazing soprano but I know it's not her favorite range to sing so I love that this is up here.

  • celia makes an awesome johanna

  • THANKS FOR THIS!

  • Thank you for uploading this!!!

You wouldn't happen to have Celia singing Green Finch, would you?

  • Yup, I do! I can upload it within a day or two.

  • Ah! Thank you soooooo much!!!!!
