I really love Monti. This show was shot live in WNEW's old studio in midtown Manhattan. Monti is truly " himself" throughout the entire interview. When Henny Youngman, for some reason sitting in Arthur Treacher's seat, throws Monti a curve, he isn't ready. "Who's the lucky man?" These days, we'd have an answer. Perhaps Monti didn't want to get whacked with a baseball bat when he returned back to his messed up car. These days Monti would have been towed, whacked with a bat and in Lenox.

Everything about this clip demonstrates what's wrong with the slick, predictable, bland talk shows of today. Jayne looks knocked up here. Noticeably (to me) absent is her eldest daughter, Jayne Marie. The large, almost fully grown girl became a burden, evidence that Jayne was no spring chicken. What Monti does here- being overtly gay but talking about his attraction to women- shows nothing has changed 44 years later... Zac Efron, Justin Bieber and a slew of others.

I treasure all my memories of Monti back in the day and hope he enjoys knowing how much he is still fabulous. He was decades ahead of his time. I remember all the spots he did on Merv in the 60's. GREAT memories.

2.) Monte Rock III actually had a hit record in 1974 under the name Disco Tex and the Sexolettes, "Get Dancin";

3.) The little girl on the dais you can catch a very brief glimpse of ( with the Jackie Kennedy hat on) is , I believe, Mariska Hargitay who has grown up to be Olivia Benson on LAW & ORDER:SVU.
